Nah, they're still retarded no matter how many retcons and no matter how much convoluted bullshit they try to pile on top of it.In order to understand the additions to the story we may have to understand the concept of death as articulated in the Universe.
Nojima might very well be exploring themes of reviving people from the life stream. I suspect this is connected to the idea of the "promised land". Sakaguchi himself noted that the game's central theme was "life" (sparked by his mother's passing).

Not to mention that death becomes meaningless once you introduce resurrectionYou don't want to go there, because if you bring back the bigger characters, why not dig deeper and bring back a certain lady that still passes away in FFVII-2, why not bring back Cloud's mother.
As a matter of fact, why not bring back Zangan so Tifa is happy too, why not bring back Ifalna since she's privileged class in the lifestream, and her husband because why the hell not?
Or is it a Dragon Ball thing, like "only people dead within the last 365 days can be revived"?
I risked my life to bring this info from ResetEra:
the events of VII and AC have already happened in another timeline
[*] the ghost things are Whispers of Fate that try to keep the characters in line with the original game
[*]Biggs and Wedge live. Jessie still dies.
[*]After the highway chase Cloud and co. fight the Whispers of Fate and beat them, making it so they're no longer bound by the original FFVII's storyline.
[*]During the battle the party is shown the clip of an old Nanaki with his cubs running towards a destroyed Midgar, Red XIII guesses it's a vision of the future that awaits them if they fail
[*]Sephiroth shows up after beating them. Fight is basically AC-tier, Sephiroth gets a black wing mid-fight.
[*]While this happens we flashback to Zack surviving his last stand in an alternate timeline
[*] After beating Sephiroth he teleports Cloud to the "edge of creation" and asks for his help in "defying destiny... together".
[*] He refuses and fight similar to their final omnislash duel ensues
[*]the party escapes Midgar.
[*]We continue Zack's scene with him walking to Midgar with a comatose Cloud holding on to him.
[*]Remake Aeris and Alt! Zack sense each other
[*]fade to black
It's kind of a sequel to Advent Children :/
Fucking bastards ruining our only chance for a VII remake.I risked my life to bring this info from ResetEra:

like lmaaaaao it's ffvii: remake not becausei am literally sitting here laughing out loud like a crazy person while reading these leaks
this is so stupid it's like it's a parody someone would've come up with to make fun of the worst possible version of a ffvii remake nomura could have come up with
this is so funny
like lmaaaaao it's ffvii: remake not becauselmfaaaaao the fucking cajones on nomurait's a literal remake but because the world is "remade" within the context of the plot
it's so fucking dumb i love it
yeeeeahIt's like Nomura wanted to make a totally new game based loosely on FF7 but he couldn't just do that for some reason so he had to have the characters jump through these ridiculous narrative hoops to justify where he wants the new game to go.
It's like the X-Men movies where instead of just rebooting them after X3 shit the bed they did the whole Days Of Future Past thing.
I would argue it's not ridiculous considering they are exploring a very real alternative play of events whilst using the original tragectory as a reference/backdrop. This isn't supposed to be a remaster. It's a "remake".
Yeah, this is probably the last nail on the coffin. They won't recover from this.Final Fantasy has been more miss than hit since last generation. This was the safest of safe bets SE could've taken to win back some goodwill from the fans.

you're changing the definition of remake here lolI would argue it's not ridiculous considering they are exploring a very real alternative play of events whilst using the original tragectory as a reference/backdrop. This isn't supposed to be a remaster. It's a "remake".
Whilst I haven't stated that resurrection has actually occurred, I am willing to anticipate such an occurrence given what we already know of the themes explored in the original. Certain Ancient Materia and Jenova cells can revive people, albeit very susceptible to error.
I've never played any version of this game myself. Watched quite a bit. Take that where it comes from.
The remake being a surprise sequel? Essentially acknowledging itself as a remake in-universe, then representing those boundaries as the hands of fate, that need to be pushed against? Actually kind of sounds brilliant to me. What a way to surprise fans. Anything can happen, now.
I see that some wanted something more simple, and I respect that, but this sounds like the coolest thing ever.
The people trying to play semantic games with the word "Remake" are a joke. The fact is that this has been marketed the last five years as the original FF7 story remade with a modern game engine. At no point in time were fans ever asking for the first part of the FF7 combined with a Nomura-fucked retarded twist at the end.you're changing the definition of remake here lol
no one wanted a remaster, a remaster would be upping the resolution and rereleasing it (they already did that)
a remake would be the same game remade
this is literally an alternate universe sequel where the original game still already happened

I doubt it, seems impossible to do at this point with so much of the later plot already out of the bag. It seems unlikely to me that Square is going to give players an open world a la the original FF7. It's going to be another linear, on-rails Final Fantasy affair. For what it's worth, I think it'll keep following the FF7 path. It's just that the journey is going to be full of new possibilities this time. Nothing will necessarily play out exactly as it did, but they're still on the same road, if that makes sense.
This whole thing is gonna end with seven Clouds fighting thirteen Sephiroths isn't it
Darkness and ominous demons can be used in mature or interesting ways. It helps make something timeless and archetypal so you can tackle a variety of stories that the audience can still relate to in a broad sense. I mean shit, Lord of the Rings is a fantastic example of using and personifying"darkness".Why do Nomura and Nojima like using DARKNESS as a plot device all the time? Bro you're like 50. Not 12.
Just wait till you hear Zack holy shit he sounds so blandhmm, tifa voice actress does not fit the character imo
Sounds like overrated Nomura ruining another project.Fucking bastards ruining our only chance for a VII remake.
Do we know how Japan received this shit?
And I have no doubt the rest of the episodes will be like this.I just watched a stream of the last 3-4 hours of the game. Even ignoring the horrendous hack job they did to the plot, I don't think I've ever seen a game go to shit so fast. The pacing is absolutely awful; a string of back to back boss fights that are way too long and honestly just boring and tedious.
I just realized why they wrote FF7 Remake Episode 1 the way they did. It's so they don't have to remake the rest of FF7. They can go in any direction. They can pick and choose what they want to recreate, which will be way cheaper than the enormous burden of a proper 1:1 remake.
It's kind of a bait and switch if they go that route.
And I have no doubt the rest of the episodes will be like this.
When they said that would flesh out the backstory of Midgar and its inhabitants I thought they meant like, seeing how Biggs and Wedge got into Avalanche and that Jesse had an abortion at some point or something.
I didn't expect a complete and batshit insane retelling of the original FF7. I thought that the worst that could happen would be massive padding and a few overdone cutscenes.
But my God. It's like the game has complete contempt for the 30-something purists and the whispers are the stand-ins for longtime fans.
