Usually RPGs always had casinos that mostly consist of card and dice games, which is nice, I think I spent just as much time in Lufia 2's casino as with the rest of game, but having (what felt like) a full blown theme park in a game really was mindblowing. And it was integrated into the story, too.
Though nowadays, when I go back to it, I usually don't really know what to do there, most of the stuff in it is pretty boring. And I think I never really got the highest score you needed for something in that rollercoaster game.
Well yeah, some of the magic is dispelled once you become older I suppose.
There are actually not a lot of interesting things to do in Gold Saucer besides the Chocobo Racing and the tournament fighting and the occasional mini game in the arcades(I like the basketball thing myself). The rest of the places like the Ghost House/theater and stuff are not very fleshed out.
Chocobo Racing is great. There's surprisingly much to do in it for a side-game. Not to mention you can enter yourself and the whole chocobo breeding stuff factors in. But I still don't understand Japan's obsession with horse racing games.
It's nice that they tried to bring it back in XIII-2.
I liked XIII-2's casino. Even the stuff that came with the DLC. The only annoying thing was playing the slot machine for the trophy, but it's not like you have to do it.
The chocobo racing was alright, I liked VII's a lot more, but it was still good and one of the better recent mini-games.
Edward's challenge dungeon had an interesting concept using lots of commercial transactions. As I suspected, the developers didn't even bother having tough monsters there because there really wasn't much that could be done with that wreck of a party. If we didn't know yet, this teaches us that party composition is a very important aspect of the balance in a game like this. Take note, rom hackers and company. The first time going through the dungeon learning the layout seemed like it took forever to complete all the tasks but the subsequent journeys were much more faster. The good thing about that place is that one can get more than one treasure per try, so it wasn't that bad overall.
Kain's tale's quality was like a roller coaster with the lowest point in the middle. WHY DID I HAVE TO RETURN TO THE UNDERGROUND WATERWAY!!!!!!11!!!!1! One would think that people in this world would have built a road between the town and the castle already if they need to travel between them so much. But nooooo, let's have the travelers, the kings, the secretaries, the princes, the gifted chidren, the soldiers, the child summoners, the thieves and old people go through a cave infested with monsters just to go to that horrible castle. That place should have been destroyed again but shadow Kain was too nice for what they deserved there. Thanks to Cid the party didn't have to go through the magnificent and cool UNDERGROUND WATERWAY again. Thank goodness...
Oops, it seems I got carried away and talked about the middle part of the chapter before what happens before it. The Mist mountain range has a new spin in mountain dungeons with the climbable wall that I appreciate. Really, everything that is not a repeated cave is a godsend for me.
The end is where I suppose the spoilers start, so here are some nice white bars:
Kain's confrontation with his shadow was the spotlight of this chapter. Even if it was heavily inspired by the Cecil becoming paladin plot point it offered a new spin on it that reminded of a certain game with all the "you're me"s. Cecil didn't really accept his shadow if I remember well and he just had to show that he knew the ways of the new path he had chosen. Here Kain already knows what's the right thing to do but the problem was that he couldn't forgive himself even if the others had already done so, so it was a good idea to awaken his latent powers when he finally snapped out of that loop of selfpity and accepted that what was done was done and that it was time to kick some purple lizard ass.
I genuinely wonder if shadow Kain being an amalgamation of all his exaggerated bad traits like the traitorous tendencies, the Rosa kidnapping tendencies and the Cecil murdering tendencies was purposely done that way because that's how shadow selves are supposed to be or because the developers simply wanted to retread old ground with Kain but without him doing the bad things himself.
By the way, I visited Rosa's mother with her in my party and she didn't even comment about her. Confirmed: No one cares about her.
I ordered that and the IV-VI one a few weeks ago. Still waiting to listen to it (and Shimomura's "Memoria!") but just don't really feel like I can even get into game music until my exams are done with.
Anyone here tried out Agito (or whatever the IOS game is called)? So tempted to play Type-0 finally when I finish Tales of Eternia.

The English translation of Type-0 is only a few months out, if you can hold on that long.
Anyway, Heropon, there is a point in TAY where they address Cecil's shadow a bit more. There's also a sort of unique shadow fight in one of the chapters where you can take an item through time and space if you know what you're doing.

2. FUCK YOU DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH RNG GRINDING I DID TO GET THAT I HATE YOU DIE DIE DIE ALL THE WASTED TIME AND EFFORT ONLY FOR IT TO DROP INTO YOUR LAP
If I'm not mistaken, Bomb is somewhat useful in some cases, but should really just be considered a trophy. It and Imp are meh-tier. I think the Wizard/Mindflayer summon is also pretty useless. Cockatrice, however, is an incredibly useful, fairly effective, low cost petrification spell I remember using a great deal in the final dungeon.
I don't know why did they hide those summons if they're so meh. A nice extra?
After all the balloons I've killed in the challenge dungeons it would have been weirder if I wouldn't have got any. I also have three giant gloves, I think they were rare too.
Yeah I'm not really sure what to do. I've had my copy sitting there for a few months and if I knew I could get through it I would have gone with it earlier but I'd like to have at least a slight grip on the story. I started teaching myself Japanese spring of last year but forgot it all once I went back to uni and it's more or less all gone now. I got through fine in the demo but a whole game is a tad different.

Yeah they're just extras. There used to be a whole bunch of stuff in FF4 that was rare drops for the sake of giving players something to do after clearing the game. This is why stuff like the Pink Princess and the Glass Mask are so hard to find.

I went through the game without understanding the language at all and I felt I got the major bullet points of the plot. I'd really just wait at this point, though. August is the other end of Summer, true, but it's damn near closer than Square's "WE ARE NOT BRINGING THIS SHIT EVER. WELCOME BACK TO THE SNES ERA BITCHES."
I really love the game. The RTS sections are meh and I wish you could revisit areas once you'd cleared them, but it's still one of the best RPGs Square's come out with recently.

Game's pretty decent, in line of the likes of FFIII & IV. They gives you a decent amount jobs and abilities to mix and match. If I remember correctly, the pacing is a bit iffy but I don't seem to mind it so much.
Nice, I'll add it to the wish list for when it eventually goes on sale. From what I've seen it looks really nice. Although strange as it sounds I've never been a huge fan of the job system, I always kind of liked each character to be unique and not have access to every thing. It's one of the reasons I will always like four and six. Makes characters feel different even at end game where in many final fantasy games everyone ends up feeling the same.
It not slander if it's the truth. I can't oversell the game when a lot of aspects about it are disappointing or not thought-through in terms of game structure/respecting the player's time.
Then again, a lot of people did like it too so it depends on taste.
Corvo, bro. I'm doing that thing where I'm making a joke while making a point instead of being completely serious.
I actually do think Type-0 would benefit from an upgraded rerelease. Not so much because of the RTS stuff cuz I don't care much about RTS as a genre anyway, but like, a certain aspect of the game was relegated to the logs when it should've been made to play on its own automatically upon achievement, and that should've been fixed. Then there's the numerous unused enemies and stuff.
As to gamepliggles of combat I was coo with it cuz it was a huge step up from Crisis Core and The Third Birthday.
As to FFD, it's not the controls that kill me in that game. It's the gol durn pacing. I seriously cannot abide by low EXP/GP gain rates in RPGs anymore.
And the final individual chapter and its associated challange dungeons were finished. One of the few things I remember about the Wii version is me getting beaten hard by the local fauna. Was the difficulty reduced or I'm getting better?
The best part about the chapter was killing that blue haired bitch and her clone. Not even the eidolon royalty could save them.
About the end:
I hope Fusoya and the Lunarians don't die. Things were getting pretty bad there.
Edit: So I went to Mysidia to see if I could get Porom and killed Ramuh. Rydia has reacted as if I'd had missed him permanently, so I want to ask if that's true. For the moment I've reloaded the save and I'll try to do other things in the meantime.
They're Play Arts Kai figures. They're making VII ones again and going through most characters (ones confirmed so far are Cloud, Sephiroth, Tifa, Nanaki, Cid, Barrett), Tifa is in either Vol 2 or 3. It'll be painted, although I do kind of agree, sometimes unpainted they look pretty cool.
It's possible they may do VIII ones soon, since they're doing VII now, did X a little while ago and are also clearly doing XII as well soon.

Yeah, winning the battle means losing Ramuh for good. However, if you reduce his HP down enough and weather his attacks Rydia can eventually convince him to join you. Other Eidolons are gained the same way.
They definitely increased her boob size from Advent Children. Oh well, hopefully this means another wave from that is coming with Red XIII, her, and maybe Cloud? I'd actually prefer Barret or a Turk first, it would be nice for this series to be "complete"

Square said they want to leave Cloud and Sephiroth until probably last of the different volumes because they've been done so many times.
Also I really hated that fight with Ramuh. I did the same thing in returning to Mysidia and of course decided "well sure I'll be fine if I don't save here right?". NOPE.
Good. Give me Reno and Rude, Barret and Cid, Aerith, Zack, Kadaj, Loz, Yazoo, I don't care, anything before another Cloud. As long as that Cloud comes out perfect, I don't mind the wait.
I can choose my party members now and Cecil's stats are abnormally low. I suppose it's a consequence of his mental breakdown? I was going to use him but I don't want him to drag my party down.
I found funny how all the useless characters are in the lower floor of the Lunar Whale. I'd suggest to lock them there and throw the key into a bottomless pit.

Cecil's stats will return to normal at a specified point later so yes, they're tied to his mental breakdown.
However, on the subject of permanently missable stuff, the same boss-fight which will return Cecil's stats to normal requires that you bring Cecil, Ceodore, Rosa and Man in Black, because if you don't, you will permanently lose a party member I found pretty damn useful.

So I have to use two mediocre paladins? Oh boy... I think I'll bring Kain as the last party member to have a decent physical damage dealer and put Man in Black in the front row while Cecil stares to the ceiling.

Mind you you can forgo using Ceodore and Cecil through the entire final dungeon until that boss fight, which is, if memory serves, mostly scripted. When you reach Lunar Subterrane B12-13, use the device to swap your party to Ceodore, Cecil, Man in Black and Rosa. You can use slot 5 as you please in that fight. I took Rydia, but many bring Kain.
After the fight you may swap your party around as you please.
I tend to take Cecil with me in spite of his shit stats so he gains XP on the way there and is on par with the rest of the party.

That makes things different! I'll bring Cecil anyways but now Ceodore is going directly to the trash can. I'll replace him with Rydia and the final party will look similar to the FFIV final one if we imagine Man in Black as a slower and tankier Edge with more powerful abilities.
For the moment I've slapped the Economic Ring on Cecil so at least he can use some potions.

This would be amazing, I would pay big monies for that. Unfortunately I don't really see us getting any figures from before VII. I know the Dragoon Variant (if you guys haven't seen it check it out by the way: http://store.na.square-enix.com/sto...eID.29853700/productID.298929100#.U3kcqPldWSo ) is more or less Kain but for some reason they won't officially call it that, not sure if it's a licensing issue or something, but anyway they've said that this is just based off the Dragoon in XIV.
