Final Fantasy III announced for Steam - $15.99/€12.99/£10.99

The ROI for FF7 and 8 on Steam must have been pretty damn high for Square.

I fully expect FF1-6 (DS/ iOS ports) to be available on Steam in a couple of years.

FF9 might be dreaming, though.

There was an iOS version of this, right? probably the PC version is a port of that. Final Fantasy IV would be next then, but I would prefer a port of the PSP's Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection with the pretty sprites instead of low-poly models.

You can watch pretty sprites in youtube for free right now. Just get a controller and mash X if you want to get the full FFIV CC experience.

When they inevitably port the iOS version of VI, they better let me use the original graphics.

Just a matter of time before the FF4 DS port then.

Certainly good for everyone who hasn't had the chance to check out these amazing remakes. I myself have FF3 on DS and FF4 on iOS and I love them very much, even more than the originals.

Get these remakes in any way possible.

The real question is if they fixed the broken game balance. The fact that your party was bigger than any group of enemies because the game engine couldn't handle more than three enemies in an encounter really hurt the game. It messed with the balance and, since you no longer had to worry about creating enemy hordes by fighting without katanas against regenerating enemies, it killed one of the more interesting parts of the game.

At first I was thinking Final Fantasy VI, but this is still cool. I just hope it's priced at $10 instead of $15 like it is on Android/iOS if I recall.

Might triple-dip since the DS endgame netplay stuff is getting shut down. Wish they'd add full-size enemy parties now that it's not held back by the DS screen size and polycount, though.

I already own it for my phone and on PSP/Vita, and I don't even really like it that much.

I'll pass on this one unless Mac Compatible & steam sale...

I wouldn't get your hopes up. Mobile ports are generally more expensive on Steam, but in this case I'd expect parity given the (relatively) high price.

Looks nice. Maybe I'll finally finish it.

Wonder if they'll eventually put out everything that has had an IOS/Android port. Final Fantasy Tactics would be fucking sweet.

Neat, I loved that game on SNES

:-(

I'm sure it'll come eventually. In all its remastered glory:

Got this on Vita for 10. I hope it's not 20 at launch. Playing this in 1080p should be nice even if SE probably won't enhance this worth a damn.

Actually I'd be cool with that. But it'd be far better if they just ALSO included an option for the original sprites.

I'd prefer them release genuine PC versions of their stuff but these IOS ports are a first step and they sure as hell are better than playing these on IOS and Andriod versions.

Oh snap! Definitely getting this. And the others on Steam as well, if SE have the sense to release thee rest of the series on PC. Got IV on Android and it's just not enjoyable at all. I've given up on mobile gaming. Keep delivering the goodies Steam.

Nothing here you guys don't already know, but here's the press release on it:

First released in Japan in 1990, FINAL FANTASY III was the first title in the Final Fantasy series to become a million-seller, establishing once and for all that Square Enix's classic RPG saga was here to stay. The game first reached European shores in 2007 when it launched as a 3D remake on the Nintendo DS, also selling in excess of one million copies worldwide.

Coming soon to Steam, FINAL FANTASY III has been optimised for PC gaming with new and improved 3D visuals and story sequences, and will include Steam Trading Cards and Achievements and new visual designs for the Job Mastery Cards.

The Story of FINAL FANTASY III

Protected by the crystals of light, the once peaceful land has forever been changed by the great tremor. Without warning, the earthquake pulled the crystals into the earth, upsetting the world’s fragile balance. It seems as if all hope is lost – but as the Gulgan prophecy foretold, four souls blessed with the light shall once again restore balance to the world.

Near the small village of Ur, fate guides Luneth to a sentient crystal that changes his life forever. As the light of the crystal fades, Luneth embarks on a journey to seek three others who share his destiny to search for the remaining crystals, and fight the battle of light and darkness.

Not that great of a game, but I got SUPER addicted to the job system on the original DS version. I will probably pick it up for $5 during some sale.

Any word on potential modding/hacking for the game? I would be much more tempted if there was some ability to speed up combat (like in Bravely Default).

Siliconera says it will cost $15.99/€12.99/£10.99

Somewhat expected, as mobile versions are $14.99, I think?

Anyway, really hope it does fine, so IV (and IV-2 :p), V and VI mobile arrive soon.

I'd love to see what modders would do with FFXIII. Probably nothing but a crazily expanded Gran Pulse and Chrystarium... which is all I'd ever want anyways.

there probably are a lot of unused or unfinished files/areas that they never finished but still left in the game data lol.

also $15.99 for ff3 bleh ill wait for sale.

I really felt like this was one of the worst RPGs I've ever played, to begin with... but $16? That's funny. That's the most enjoyment this game has ever given me.
