I dont fucking believe it. I was on last stage of last boss fight. Like an hour of fighting and I died… and there were like 3 options “start from before current battle, this battle of before”
I chose from current battle and it fucking restarted the whole thing. Not only this stage.
Fuck this piece of shit game. Yeah of course I wanted to waste a fucking hour… I want to die.
Like seriously who designed this checkpoint system and 20 stage battles should burn in hell. Goty my ass
Then I quit to main menu to see if it maybe loads me back and it takes me EVEN FURTHER back to the beginning of the stage.
I don’t remember being so mad in years. Holy fuck what a shitty game

Yeah it can get confusing for sure... Always choose the top option to go back to the closest to where you were.
The other options are pretty much if you want to go back a little further to adjust material or things like that or redo the battle to see how many hit points you can maintain or mana or whatever.

Well I was not dying enough to get to know those options. Game was not that hard. And that one option was never there… seemed to make sense for me They introduced it for last fight…
In short. A checkpoint prompt ruined a climax for 70 hours of playing. I am not getting the same awe inspiring climax playing again …
Thanks yeah I’m his could’ve been clearer in the game. Especially that deshell is level2 of that materia. And it doesn’t leave a lot of room for free play. I beat him but I do feel I did it wrong and deshell is a must.
As for protect, I found it strange you can cast protect on enemies. It does say you can’t cast protect on deprotect resistant enemies or something. Why would they even give me an option to protect enemy

Yeah, uninstalled it at the last boss and I don't think I'll finish it.
So here's what happened: hour long fight, when I arrive at what I imagine is the last phase I die and there are a bunch of options: retry from before this battle, retry from this battle, retry from checkpoint and go back to tile screen. I click on retry from this battle, of course... And it throws me to the start of the entire gauntlet. I searched online and I was supposed to select retry from BEFORE this battle. How does this make sense? Any reasonable person would think this would bring you back to before you entered the entire battle.

Just a couple more tips for people struggling with this hard challenge, you can also use a synergy skill to suddenly warp an ally to you and save them from getting paralyzed by the scream attacks. Also every time the mindflayer teleports you will lose your lock on so wait and relock or you will probably be forced to target and wake the sleeping guys you are trying not to hurt
Firaga. I just beat him before your answer traditional brute force way.
but properly I should use deshell from enervation materia? I didn’t use this materia once… I have tons of other equipped but never felt the need for that one and forgot it.
Or would casting protect on enemy deprotect him too?
Breach will despell shell and I think manaward as well. Deshell will additionally lower its magic defense. I dont know if deshell gets rid of Manaward (it will get rod of shell). And breach is the first spell on the materia (its breach, then despell....but i kinda forgot the name of the materia haha. Despell you only need against stuff like haste, brave, faith, etc.)
If you want to do the entire protorelic sidequest you definitively want despell

Haha funny how this happens to so many people. Happened to me too. Someone slept while translating. How is anyone to know the difference between "this" battle and "current" battle.
The entire endboss fight is super easy, only the Sephi fight is minimaly challenging, but still super easy compared to the protorelic stuff and some of the harder VR missions. It did take away some of the momentum, which is a pitty. But I calmed down after a few minutes. It really doesnt take so long to do it again. About 10 minutes. Yes shitty, but again, I did way harder fights over and over again until I figured them out, so I was already used to that. Overall Endboss was almost a bit too easy.
Saying you're glad it flopped is pretty mean tbh. Many people worked extremely hard on this, you can see that there was a lot of love put into this game. Its not a cheap cash grab, it doesn't have any DLC, microtransactions, preditory monetization, gambling mechanics or anything like that. Its a labor of passion and we should all hope this game does well to send a signal to the industry that these games are still wanted by the market and can be successful.
Whether you like the game or not is another story, but don't wish for genuinely well made and consumer friendly games to flop. The industry lost enough talent the last year and this year alone. Even if you were mad when you said this, its just not a good headspace to be in if I am being honest. You would not want other people to talk about your work and your job like this, even if you made a slight mistake in bloody menu.

Am I tripping or the chocobos in FFXV were able to sprint and jump at the same time (sometimes even fly)? Here everytime I press O to jump, the chocobo drifts while sprinting.

You could fly, or glide more precisely, with FFXV chocobos.
Even worse, i don't know why but i was convinced the chocobo you had could jump and glide in the Junon part of rebirth demo...
I spend all the time waiting for an upgrade or something that would make them fly but it never came.

I honestly think there’s an absolutely stupendous 35 hour game in here. When I got to Cosmo Canyon and see “more remnawave towers added” I just kinda sigh and decide it’s time for a break.

Thats the games biggest downfall imo, its long for the sake of being long, theres nothing wrong with having a more condensed game, in fact Remake nailed this perfectly imo

I get it. It's a dumbfuck design. I once did all the World Intel for Cosmo Canyon, then had one more fight to do. I hit Retry From Checkpoint and it brought me back to my last Main Story checkpoint. I lost 3 hours of progress.
Chocobos have contextual "powers" depending on the region but with very limited use (except maybe the nibelheim chocobo) and they can't do what you could do in FFXV (jump and glide, and don't tell me about the cosmo canyon chocobo gliding it's extremely contextual and shitty).
The only trophy tied to difficulty is beating every chapter on Hard.
I played through Remake on Easy and whenever I decide to continue on with this one, itll stay on Easy. The only games that are worth the stress and challenge to me nowadays are From related.

Just dont do it. I dont see the problem here. I played some of the early Assassins Creed games and just did the story missions and thats fine. You do not HAVE to engage with any of the extra content. That content is for people who enjoy it and want to do it. If you want to focus on the main story you are free to do so. The game can easily be completed without all the side activities and you can always go back and do them later, even after you finished the game via chapter select. Some people in here have also done this.
Dont let your brain tell you that you have to do something just because its there. Take it at the pace you want to do it in.

Yup, they're all pretty much scripted interactions, other than the nibelheim one (which made the region 100x better). It would've made the game a lot better if the Chocobo skills were more free... I mean, gliding is pretty much standard in open world games, so they could've implemented it better. Same for jumping and whatnot.

Oh wow there is a super niche easter egg for the "WELL" informed. Its not really a spoiler but I put it in spoiler tags anyway, if you dont want to see anything from the corel prison area. Its an easter egg about a debug fight in the OG that was also in the corel prison

After my session yesterday, I decided to download the OG FF7. Never played it before, and this game is just giving me such a fondness for the characters. I really have the urge to go back and see the origins of everything.
