The FINAL FANTASY VII remake project uses the latest technology to bring FINAL FANTASY VII, the legendary RPG that enchanted the world, to a new generation and allows fans to experience the famed story reimagined. The first game in the trilogy, FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, was released in 2020, achieving critical acclaim across the globe and shipping more than seven million units worldwide. Now, the second game, FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH, returns to tell the story at the core of the trilogy and has already achieved critical acclaim. In this game, players will enjoy various new elements as the story unfolds, culminating in the party’s journey to “The Forgotten Capital” from the original FINAL FANTASY VII.

After escaping Midgar, the City of Mako, Cloud and his friends overcome the boundaries of fate and step into the unknown wasteland. A vast world with many characteristics awaits, as well as a new story where you will run through fields on chocobos to freely explore points of interest.

The game is now available on PC, with many improvements with respect to the console version!

Story

story-background-1-1--eyzD0CVNW.png

The lifestream forms the very cycle of existence, with all life born from the planet and all returning to its embrace. However, the sinister Shinra Electric Power Company extracts this vital life energy, spending it liberally as a fuel source called “mako”.

After a ferocious battle, Ex-SOLDIER Cloud Strife and his companions Tifa, Aerith, Barret and Red XIII escape the mako-powered city of Midgar to step out into the wide world. A journey across the planet begins - riding Chocobos across vast and trackless plains, visiting many familiar places in pursuit of the fallen hero Sephiroth, and the chase culminating in the party’s journey to “The Forgotten Capital” from the original FINAL FANTASY VII.

At the same time, SOLDIER 1st class Zack Fair drags his battered body across the wastelands leading into Midgar, supporting his dear friend who is delirious from severe mako poisoning. Beyond the boundary between life and death, he sees an ominous rift spreading across the heavens.

The Shinra Resistance Committee, a rising power led by the acting government of Wutai, declares war.
A group of mysterious figures veiled in dark black cloaks carry the remains of Jenova, the “Calamity from the Sky”, to ends unknown.
Sensing the planet’s encroaching crisis, the ancient guardians known as Weapons begin to awaken within the lifestream itself.

All while the machinations of Cloud’s sworn enemy, Sephiroth, cause countless fates to collide and entwine, and lo, destiny itself will be reborn again.

We made several enhancements for the PC release of FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH.

LIGHTING
Lighting has been adjusted, and the game's overall rendering of light is significantly improved. The updated areas and cutscenes present with even greater beauty and clarity than before.

FRAMERATE AND RESOLUTION
NVIDIA DLSS support enables higher frame rates and upscaled resolution, allowing FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH to run smoothly with up to 120 FPS on high-spec PC environments. All while the variable refresh rate (VRR) support can improve the gameplay feel further.

TEXTURES
The LoD for background models and MIP maps for background textures can both be freely configured in the options settings. With this background polygon density and texture density can be set higher than previously, allowing for gameplay with higher-quality graphics.

I made a throwaway quick and dirty OT so we can discuss the PC port in one place. If someone else was plannining to do something proper, I can ask to delete this.

I'm still downloading the game. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Solid port from what I have played so far. The lighting is much improved. The high frame rates are smooth. No stutter. The pop in is 99% cleared up from the PS5 version.

I'm considering double dipping (I'd have to buy the bundle with Remake as well). Has anyone here played it on a RTX 4080 Super yet?

The PS5 version was so blurry it kinda made it unenjoyable, and when I tried to play in quality mode or whatever the frame rate was just way too low.

This guy is an idiot, he's not even playing on the highest settings on PC, Background model is set on High instead of Ultra.
Then he proceeds by saying the game still has some pop in. Well no shit sherlock, you're on High.

On Ultra there's almost no Pop-in.
Proof in this video below with comparison between each settings for Background models :

I beat the game on PS5 and also on PS5 Pro. Lots of pop in. Setting the PC to ultra I can confirm there is almost no pop in at all.

Just ran through Chapter 1, maxed out settings.

Game is vastly improved, specifically the color grading looks way better to me. Either the improved lighting, or maybe they improved the HDR, I dunno. On PS5 it looked washed out to me, this looks significantly better to my eyes.

Lighting is also way better, people were trying to troll with that image of the Sephiroth/Cloud synergy attack saying it was still shit. Yes, that ONE shot of Cloud's face still looks bad, but in my playthrough, just that shot. Everything else looks better, I tested this by zooming in on Cloud's face in the interior environments where it would look like total shit on PS5, and in every instance I could see Cloud's face.

Excellent port.

Don't worry, nobody took that troll seriously.

Out of interest which AA you use and what FPS you getting in general?

Hate to be that guy, but I have a question. What order am I supposed to play these goddamn games in?

Do I just play remake first and then interlude or is interlude the same as the remake but has extra content it’s so stupid how they do this as a new player you never know what you’re supposed to play

Just to appease my ocd. Everyone else's game has most settings only available up to High yeah?

Mine doesn't seem to have an Ultra overall preset. Just one of the settings can be set to Ultra which then sets the overall to Custom

So, I'm thinking of buying this, as I didn't have the time back when it released. Is the benefits of buying the PC version bigger than playing the game in the couch on a PS5 Pro? (Playing the PC version in the living room is not possible.)

Remake > Remake's DLC (Interlude) > Rebirth

If you wanna add a spin off, play Crisis Core Reunion BEFORE all these, but be aware it contains spoilers.

This is a very good port, ran smooth. Might be one of the best Unreal Engine 4 games on PC. Maxed out on RTX 4090 Native 4K/DLAA no problem at all and way above 60fps.

Game runs perfectly so far (currently halfway through Nibelheim tutorial) and looks super clean. I remember the PS5 version looking like a blurry mess in performance mode.

1. Remake Intergrade (Intergrade is just what they stupidly decided to call the PS5/PC upgrade)

2. Remake Intermission (This is the DLC for Remake Intergrade)

3. Rebirth

You can also play Crisis Core which comes before all this, but do remember it's just a PSP game with a glow up, you might not enjoy it as much. Not required though.

Well god damn, I took a break from playing on my main PC and installed on my ROG Ally X, it runs this game superb so far. I'm running at 900p, lossless scaling 3.0 on X2 and SGGR scaling enabled, everything except Shadows and fog on high and getting 70-90 fps running around in the wooded field during the opening credits. Not bad! I'll try to report back here when I reach Kalm after the prologue.

Just checked and at 720p it runs at 90-100 fps but kinda has the fidelity of the regular PS5 version at its worst. Still smooth though.

Play the 97' OG, then Crisis Core (Reunion remaster is probably the best choice), then the Advent Children movie, then Remake, then Intermission dlc, then this.

This is assuming you care about the overall world lore. If not. Just play Remake, then Intermission (optional imo) then this.

Would ppl consider this better than metaphor?

Not played metaphor but if you played the original or even just grew with a ps1 it should have a lasting impact on you, otherwise the sheer amount of side content may feel a bit much. It does however set up for an even better second hard mode playthrough.

You can skip Interlude and Reunion, you only need to play Remake and then Rebirth.

Also the original if you haven't already played it, but you could just wait until after playing these games first then having this there to have in anticipation for part 3. Playing it all at once now would just cause too much overload.

I played og (40yrs old now). But i couldnt enjoy ff7 remake much bc of side content. Ill try to be more open with this one. Tbh with metaphor i got bored a bit too once i realized how they structured the dungeons..

I found this link on Reddit and sharing here. The game has you dial in DLSS settings based on its resolution scale modifier and isn't explained well in the menus:

Most games these days will let you activate your choice of upscaler (DLSS, FSR, XeSS), then select what quality you want it at (which affects the render resolution) and many will even provide you with a sharpening scaler so you can tweak the final result to your taste. Here, you get a choice of three anti-aliasing options (yes, AA—not upscaling): TAA, TAAU, and DLSS if you have an Nvidia RTX GPU.

Then you have a choice of four values to set the maximum and minimum scaling used for the dynamic resolution system: 100%, 66%, 50%, and for some reason that utterly eludes me, 33%. Those figures roughly equate to Quality, Performance, and Ultra Performance. Want to use an equivalent for Balanced or fine-tune it to your exact needs? Tough luck.

But let's say you pick 66% for the minimum and 100% for the maximum. The game will now dynamically adjust the render resolution on the basis of the current frame rate and what setting you've picked for the frame rate cap. So if you've picked a 120 fps limit and you're running at 82 fps, the game will almost constantly use a render scale of 66% of your monitor's resolution.

That's fine when the frame rate is consistently well below the limit, but should it rise nearer to it, then not only is the resolution change very obvious, but you also get extra little hiccups in the frame rate. That's a shame because, for the most part, Rebirth doesn't exhibit anywhere near as much stuttering as Final Fantasy 7 Remake does.

You're far better off sticking the maximum and minimum scale to the same value, which effectively disables the dynamic system. Something else you might want to do is apply DLSS 66% (aka DLSS Quality), even if you don't need the extra frame rate. You get a far superior level of anti-aliasing compared to TAA/TAAU, which makes it all the more disappointing that AMD and Intel GPU owners can't use their respective upscalers.

Most of the side content is really fun in this one, at times it feels like a giant love letter to different games from that era. There is so many way points spread across the map though that it seems pointless until a second playthrough on hard mode. It's one of those few games I wouldn't suggest trying to do everything before moving on, by the time I got to Nibelheim I just wanted to see the how it ended.

I also recommend playing on Dynamic difficulty if you like at least a moderate challenge, as it does ramp up quite a bit towards end game. It also prevents you from becoming too overlevelled if you do want to spend time taking in all the side content.

Big FF fan and a big Atlus fan and have completed both games and loved both. They are different style of JRPGs, different combat, world traversal and presentation overall.

But I preferred Rebirth over Metaphor just because I felt the characters are very well done in the FF7R games whilst I found them lacking in Metaphor for the most part. So the love and care put into making memorable characters you care for stood out for FF7 when I think about both experiences.
