Square Enix, you had one job: Remake a video game people liked.
3 possible scenarios I can see:
1) Episodic in nature for faster dev time or to attempt a more serialized style of game while retaining the story or to get more money in the long run because its fucking FF7 and people will buy
2) They change the story to make it a duology/trilogy so they can get more money in the long run because its fucking ff7 and people will buy
3) They keep the same story but add new content as prequels/sequels so they can get more money in the long run because its fucking ff7 and people will buy
Interesting to see what they'll do and how they'll pull it off. I see episodic titles getting bigger and bigger and its not like Square isn't already experimenting this with the new HItman.
Clearly you have no idea what the fuck you're talking about if you're even remotely considering this as "just news".Quit freaking the fuck out before we have more details?
Good lord people they're video games. And this isn't even 100% bad news: it's just news.
Anybody defending this decision is such a corporate suckup. This is really, really cynical.
Im just hoping that its because the game is so huge that they have to release it in a few different parts. I could live with that for sure. Its the "each is a different experience" part that makes me worried. What does that mean? Im a little taken back but I'm not going to react until I know what exactly is going on. I just pray they dont massively fuck this up.Literally all we know is 'The game you thought was one game is actually more than one game'. If you can't think of a single positive version of that statement, you just lack imagination.
@mochi_wsj: @Senigata03 my guess is the scenario will be split into several which we would need to buy each time. similar to one of those iPhone games?
Think of how many completely unique areas FF7 had. You had a reactor, cyber punk downtown area, a church, a theme park, a slum, a multi-level corporate building, a canyon village, and way more, all of which were enterable and explorable.
You can't compare it to Witcher 3, Elder Scrolls V, or GTA V, all of which have at most 5 different types of environments, with lots of reused assets. GTA has a fair amount of unique buildings, but you can't enter most of them. All three games have more cohesive worlds than FF7.
Doing FF7 in full 3D with state of the art graphics is a mammoth undertaking with no precedent.
"Isn't this FF7 game too big for a CD-R?"
Two blu ray discs in the same package. There's seriously no excuse.
"There's no goddamn way they could cover all of The Witcher 3/Tales of [name]/Dragon Quest 8 in one game."
I imagine they will do something once they wake up.
So we should expect to pay each part at MSRP?
It's not the data, it's that they're releasing the parts separately so they can release separate games. You gotta be kidding me, just put it on 2 discs.
Probably more than a fewI suppose I'll just wait a few years until the entire thing is released at once.
It seems like this info leaked out before they anticipated, and people are jumping to the worst possible conclusion as a result. If we could just get an explanation... what is with devs saying these kinds of things without further explanation? Is it just to create more attention even if that attention is a mass of speculation, fear, and as with everything, insane amounts of salt?
They already did 20 years ago
Isn't this just because the game is so big it won't fit on a standard PS4 disc? I wouldn't be surprised to see all the parts released at the same time.
Well, when the original game was that, an entire game, forgive us for not expecting the best of intentions from SE regarding this news.Maybe some of us realize that investing such intense emotion into the fate of a video game doesnt make much sense, and that we'd rather just play and enjoy what we do get? Its pretty simple. Im simply happy to be able to play the damned remake to begin with. Also i believe in artistic integrity. First experience it and then you can complain all you want later.

This kind of attitude is so toxic.Honestly not shocked. A straight up faithful VII remake would be too good and make way too much sense for modern day Squenix. Even if the episodic aspect turns out fine, they'll find some other way to fuck it up. They've been ruining the Final Fantasy brand for over half a decade at this point.
Yeah this is what Im hoping. The fact that it would be nearly impossible to recreate every single environment or event in one $60 FF7 game this day in age.
Play through it recently and realize that all of that would be played through as a third-person explorable town with drastically different environments that change assets completely.
Assuming you split this in two, just throwing that out there, you get more focus on that content as making the game more content focused and the added scenes will make it so that the game is roughly split in half as an entirely complete-able and lengthy RPG.
There is absolutely no way they could remake all of FF7 Remake as a copy without glossing over a majority of the details and more.
That's one "possibility" of many that we won't know until presumably Jump Festa in less than 2 weeks from today.
You say that as if it were the easiest thing in the world.

You're assuming the game will completely remake each area. Its easy to condense the shinra building section into a few cutscenes.
So breaking a game that is already completed story wise is making it easier?
"To Be Continued"

predictions:
-the complete package will still be on a far smaller scope than the original ff7
-each episode will vary in quality and will be farmed out to various teams
-optional side quests and exploration will be close to non-existent
-no overworld or transition between the locations of each episode
-there will be no finite number of episodes, with various side stories or EU filler being brought in if sales are good
-if sales are bad, the story will be massively abridged with production values significantly dropping
-character progression will only exist on a micro scale, with each episode effectively being mechanically standalone
-the first episode will leave an optimism that the rest will sorely fail to live up to
Or maybe I'm going to wait for more information. Hate to break it to you most in this thread upset will likely buy the game regardless.
