Final Fantasy VII Remake is a multi-part series

You finally step out of Midgar and stare at the beautiful distance. A huge overworld stretches as far as the eye can see, rendered in perfect HD graphics. Your characters look stoic and prepared. Ready for a new adventure.

"To be continued in Final Fantasy VII Remake, Part 2".

FUUUUUUUCK.

Then you have to wait 6 months for the next episode. You finally download it, start it and...

Your characters immediately start at Kalm. You cannot leave the town. Cloud comments on how amazing it was to get there, to fight the monsters, to see the creatures, to see the hills and plains.

Really? Don't you think it is bad that a game won't let you progress at your own pace? Like, after finishing a segment you have to wait months to keep playing the story?

You finish a fantastic scene, and you WANT to keep playing! You are pumped up to see what's next.

But FUCK YOU! You are greeted with a black screen with white text that says "To be continued"; followed by another screen prompting you to buy the next episode or the "full season pass".

Don't you feel that's a little... TERRIBLE?

Dude... chill a bit

I can't believe they woudl ruin this. So many games for them to ruin, and they choose this one?

Wow, just wow.

At least NieR Automata should be awesome.

"...with each entry providing its own unique experience"

I bet this means each entry will have a different playable character.

The problem is the buzzkill felt when you reach the end of an episode. It really kills the nostalgic anticipation.
yeah for sure, there is some huge downside, too. i'm not sure if it's worth it.

I think I'm OK with it and there could be some great advantages, but certainly it sucks to wait, too.

I think it depends a lot on how they handle the end... if they do this then they really really need the overworld accessible at the end of each chapter with as much or even more free roam content to pursue. If we just end on the Midgar highway and next entry just instantly starts at Kalm with a new save file, then that sucks... huge. If ends outside of Kalm and there's new free roam content in the overworld (there's a lot of things they could use from the side-FF7 games/stories) then maybe it's OK.

Anybody defending this decision is such a corporate suckup. This is really, really cynical.
The fact that you think this is true is embarrassing.

Some of us would rather use our heads and think about what this could mean and trying to see the positives rather than flip a shit over a vague quote.

So I guess we are getting FF7R-2, FF7R-3.

I don't like this. Cause they can charge $60 a pop and stagger the releases. Like we will even get to play the complete game by 2020? This is nuts.

$60 a pop
Pre-Order Bonuses
Microtransactions
DLC add-ons

Then a Complete Edition in 2027 for the 30th Anniversary on Next Next Gen.

I'm only half kidding by predicting this.

The meltdown over this is unbelievable, lol. This is what they decided to do to make the game as good as it can be. People will get to play part of it sooner this way.

They haven't announced prices, time between each episode release nor have they showed how long each one will be. Yet its unbelievable that people have doubts? Sounds more like you're just blindly believing the game will be good and a fair price.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Lol there's no way they're dedicating time in an episode for the cross-dressing sequence.

This remake is doomed.

Speculating, of course but the entirety of Don Corneo will probably be skipped since the 'next episode' will probably land you right outside the Shinra HQ.

Yes, the worst case scenario you've dreamed up does in fact sound terrible. Doesn't mean it'll in any way resemble reality.

Didn't play the PSX original. I just know I want to play the stuff they showed in the new trailer. And I'm looking forward to Cloud in Smash.

I'm cautiously optimistic I'll enjoy whatever they make.

The funny thing about this model is how the PS4 timed exclusivity is going to work into it. Imagine episode 1 coming out, and then say 6 months later it hits PC and XB1 or something like that. Then when episode 2 comes out on PS4 here comes another 6 month wait for the other systems.

Lord Nomura does it again.

No. That's how episodic (multi-part) games generally play out

It feels as though SE/Sony has a Definitive released date for the game thats forcing this decision.
I have a feeling if thats the case, there won't be an overworld, the battles would be scripted, and the game might launch buggy.

I would've happily waited for a Full one-disc remake, but this game isn't for me. I loved the gameplay of the first, I would've giving this new one a chance.
However this...yeah this remake is not for me.

You might think its a overreaction, but its more of a realization that I'm find with the original and that I just wanted a better looking Remake.

Still if the music is good, I'll buy the soundtrack.

Xenoblade X has one town. Its a big town, but its one town. The world is big, but it isnt as complex as having many cities and events. Not to mention the kind of detail they want to have with each model, each map, and so on.

If we all stop to think, or replay ff7, the game has an insanely large amount of scenarios. Many games today have less events and a lot more gameplay padding. You could literally cut the game into a third, add more scope to each area and more ability to explore, and you would have a fully fledged game. Each disc has a ton of content. I am not worried. Not only that, but i feel that they are going to add scenes from all the games and movie and put it all into this one game. We are talking a massive, massive game here.

THANK you. You guys need to realize that this move means the world will be more realized like this, more detailed and less half-hearted. They're not gonna simply chop up a single game's length into several pieces. They're basically fleshing out each piece and filling it up with details to make each piece into an intricate game. Not to mention that sales from each game can contribute to the budget of upcoming sequels. I'm all for this.

I'm down for 3 separate physical release episodes if it means they put more effort into every part of the original storyline.

The scale of games have changed in 15 years and trying to jam everything in one game could be difficult.

If it's digital episodes though... I'll be really disappointed.

There's nothing wrong with doubts. There should be doubts

It's the "LOL THEY RUINED THE GAME FUCK SQUARE " that's ridiculous. We have no real details

Oh, so no autonomy.
Did Nomura play a TellTale game and become inspired?
Did all the money get tied up in and/or spent on XIIIVS cum XV that this is the quickest, dirtiest, and cheapest way to give the people what wanted allowing Sony to blow our minds during E3 using nothing more than words and our imaginations?

I can't believe they woudl ruin this. So many games for them to ruin, and they choose this one?

cause you absolutely begged them for it and went into blubbery hysterics at the mere mention of its existence.

they just can't help themselves.

The problem is, you can still explore the world and track back to towns and cities that you have visited in the original 3 discs game. With this being and episodic game, do you believe you can still do that? How about the optional bosses and quests? Lots of thing will be cut.

And your example is just perfect reflection of this. This will be a linear game like a movie. Is the original FFVII linear?

I believe they still can. Restrict optional quest in each episode. Most of optional quest in ff7 is time restricted or unlock after certain point anyway, so yes, it could be done. Unless FF7 taking xenosaga approach, with each game offering different gameplay style to tell coherent storyline, which is not bad anyway

Nomura already confirmed it, but he's lied before so.

Wait, what? Confirmed what, that Don Corneo section won't be in this pos service-based "game"?

Putting aside concerns of going back to areas and such, I'm not sure why people think episodic will result in more cut content then one full release for $60.

That doesn't even make sense to me.

Yup. If Nomura is to be believed. This means more is actually preserved. If it was a released on a disc you'd imagine there would be some but content.

We really need more clarification on what they mean by this.

Isn't this just because the game is so big it won't fit on a standard PS4 disc? I wouldn't be surprised to see all the parts released at the same time.

Think of how many completely unique areas FF7 had. You had a reactor, cyber punk downtown area, a church, a theme park, a slum, a multi-level corporate building, a canyon village, and way more, all of which were enterable and explorable.

You can't compare it to Witcher 3, Elder Scrolls V, or GTA V, all of which have at most 5 different types of environments, with lots of reused assets. GTA has a fair amount of unique buildings, but you can't enter most of them. All three games have more cohesive worlds than FF7.

Doing FF7 in full 3D with state of the art graphics is a mammoth undertaking with no precedent.
