Final Fantasy VII Remake is a multi-part series

Anybody defending this decision is such a corporate suckup. This is really, really cynical.

Or we are not defending it but giving them the benefit of the doubt as many episodic games have been released the latest years and many of them have done it well. Also you can always wait for the full release.

For anyone trying to put it in juxtaposition with XBCX....have you even played FFVII or XBCX? The PS1 game blows the Wii U game out of the water when it comes to content.

Not bashing XBCX. So far the game is ok.

It's possible.

I just don't think Square-Enix is capable of it.

I wouldn't bet on any modern dev company bleeding into a game like that running in a 3D environment while keeping up with the amount of content and settings without skimping. They'd simply lose money.

I'm confused as to why this is a bad thing. Would you rather wait and play the whole thing in 2017
or 2018
?
I wouldn't hesitate for even a moment to say that I would rather wait another 5 years to get a complete package rather than having episodic shit being thrown at the consumer every six months or whatever.

It seems like this info leaked out before they anticipated, and people are jumping to the worst possible conclusion as a result.

Still, I hope SE's PR team is currently reading this thread and is prepping one hell of a fire eqstigiusher for the morning.

Good luck dudes.

If it was leaked out then yeah... that sucks. This is not something that should be leaked separate from a proper explanation.

Remember when Based Lord Nomura-sama said VersusXIII was a series of stories making up an epic saga? And then Clown Prince Pretender Tabata-kun took over and said NO IT IS ONE GAME! Now Based Lord Nomura-sama (Savior of Square Enix) will have his revenge!

........

Lol.

lol

I'm not sure where everyone is getting the idea that this is gonna be episodic. From what I've read, they've just said "multi-part". There's a small difference between the two, I think. Episodic would mean all the bad things people have mentioned before. Multi-part still leaves room for backtracking and world map stuff.

First they give us an utterly shitty game.
Then they give us a sequel to an utterly shity game no one asked for.
Then they give us a sequel to a sequel to an utterly shity game no one asked for either.
Then they remove one of the most interesting female characters and replace her with a blonde anime trope.
Then they alter everything about a promising game and replace the director.
Then they cocktease us with a FF 7 remake only to troll us.
Then they fucking hype us only to immediately remind us what a shit show of company they are.

At this point, I would have rather see Square going bankrupt and seeing the IP in the hand of people who actually like games and their player base and not only the color of their money.

Don't be such a baby.

Wow the hyperbole. Good Lord.

Just stop buying the games. You'll feel better.

Absolutely. I'd wait however long it took for a proper remake. Shit, it's been since 1997 anyway. I've got other things to do in my life than want content next year.

They'll most likely have the complete package when it's all said and done anyway. And it probably will take another five years.

Video game development is extraordinarily difficult, and Final Fantasy VII is hard to adapt in general because of how massive it is in terms of scope.

Square Enix outsources a lot of their development to a wide variety of companies and that kind of a coordination effort for a title as large as "Final Fantasy VII Remake" is commendable.

It's also extremely expensive. I guarantee you that Square Enix is developing as fast as possible with as much money as they can given their unique development hierarchy and their financial situation, and if they had the opportunity to produce Final Fantasy VII Remake in a non-episodic way, they would do so in a heartbeat.

Square Enix doesn't have a precedent of releasing episodic games, so I don't understand why you seem to be personally offended that Square Enix went the episodic route, like they did it to spite you or something.

So much negativity. I'm totally cool with this as long as the episodes are all the same quality as we saw in that trailer.

That's why the announcement was so exciting.

This would have truthfully been another turning point in video games on par with the original FF7 release.

JRPG's would literally evolve every time FF7 was remade.

The reason this news was so big was because everyone thought it was impossible and could never be done. Now we know it was too good to be true.

To me it seems like they're doing this so it can be done.

My gut would be to assume this'll be more akin to the FFXIII trilogy, albeit planned in advance.

So much this hahaha

Glad I was happy with both

to respond to what you said before you edited: people have been asking for it for 10 years, and for 10 years they've been saying no, because it would cost too much money and take too much time to develop

this is probably the ONLY way this project ever gets greenlighted. They would never, ever, ever recoup the costs of a dev cycle that needs the team size this project does and release it in a timely fashion. You have to understand what a massive game this is, and how much it would cost and how long it would take to actually release a remade version of it at the level that made your jaw drop when you watched that trailer the other day.

Relax, realise this is the only way you get a VII remake because it's financial suicide otherwise, and wait for more news before you kill yourself by overreacting.

This needs to be quoted.

PS: At this point I'm just waiting for the successor to Amir0x meltdown to appear

The person is having a mental breakdown, I don't think it's worth having any type of logical conversation with him/her. Yeah, I agree with you, I'm fine with this and am looking forward to it.

The ONLY way this will work out well is if each "Episode" roughly corresponds with a disk. That way the backtracking and world map can remain intact.

Obviously this probably won't happen considering Disk 1 is like 60% of the game, Disk 2 is 40%, and Disk 3 is basically just the final dungeon. Maybe they will pad out Disk 2 and 3 enough to be the same length as Disk 1....

Can we please, for the LOVE OF ALL THAT IS NOMURA, WADA OR WHOEVER THE FUCK YOU PRAISE ON THIS PLANET, STOP SAYING SHIT LIKE "This worked with Xenosaga, Telltale Games, Mass Effect, Portal, IDGAF.

FINAL FANTASY VII, is a COMPLETE package. The fans of this game KNOWS what to expect of it. VIDEO GAME SERIES like Xenosaga are games that have been 'episodic' from the get-go. You've got directors, writers, all that shit KNOWING that the game will be a trilogy or whatever. FFVII is NOT supposed to be divided like that. At least the FFVII we know and have played. At this point I don't even fucking know what game they'll actually provide.

I bet this piece of shit will have Genesis and that other shithead I don't care about.

Look you foolish person. The Hobbit was written as one book. That didn't stop the amazingly talented Peter Jackson from making it a EPIC trilogy of films. That turned out fine right? ....right?

Life is Strange is an episodic game. Just ... throwing that out there.

Looking back at when square made original FF7 and now how they're handling this remake it really shows they aren't the same company anymore. FF7 was as ambitious as it was grand, a crowning achievement and a huge budget risk for just one title with the self belief that it would all pay off, and boy did it. That's what the Remake should have been.

FF7 was a tiny little game compared to a full size, fully detailed FF7 in 3D.

I'd rather wait a while longer for the whole game to come out on two discs. Is it really gonna be so huge that it's worth buying two or more $60 games?
It's just huge from a production POV. It would just take too long & cost too much to remake all of FFVII at once in the quality & scope that they've shown, at least without making some huge cuts to the storyline of FFVII that would piss people off too. This way they can make a game that looks like the game does now and make it into something that people can play maybe by the 20th anniversary of FFVII instead of its 30th while also making it possible that they DON'T have to cut anything/as much for budgetary/development schedule reasons (I mean, they could still cut stuff like Cloud dressing up in woman's clothes & going to a brothel, but not necessarily because they need to keep the budget in check).

You are all basing this on half a sentence in a PR statement with no further info.

Just calm down and stop having a panic attack, christ.

Rewatch the trailer. It fits all too perfectly. Everything shown is from the very beginning of the game with voice acting.

Who's stopping people from just waiting until the whole thing is out? That's what I do with episodic games.

You know these games will be $60 each, and that's not even including DLC they'll probably put it there.

The Gold Saucer will probably be rigged with this shit.

This is turning from everybody's dream game to everybody's worst possible nightmare.
