Final Fantasy VII Remake |OT| - The Reunion is coming

I won easily against hell house, was scared of it because of all the talk about it. I had more problems against Rufus
🤷‍♂️
Rufus, just like Sephiroth, you hace to watch his pose/stance, attack the wrong time and he just counters and fucks you. It’s one of the things i think the game doesn’t really teach you up front, except earlier with the fight against Rude in the Sector 5 slums (although that fight wants you to use Aerith and magic).

Yeah I got him on 3rd try, the bastard kept interrupting my heals even when he was reloading he had time to come and get me sometimes. I had no problems against sephiroth, I got him easy.

I was talking about the hard mode battle against Hellhouse.

I have already obtained the Platinum trophy.

And I was talking about the hellhouse battle in whatever mode, since Ive read a lot of comments from people who had a hard time with it.

Hellhouse in normal mode is just another boss, but in hard mode is a fair challenge.

it is really quite the fight! the way it uses all the elementals and has all these different phases.

i finally beat him. it took me all day lol of playing off and on. probably 2 hours or so total. it kicked my ass for a while but victory was oh so sweet. loved it.

New Game+ in Wall Market is pretty cool. i'm making different choices this time like not bothering calling the coin toss and having enough money for the luxury massage. so now i'm off on some other alternate story quests for Madam M that i missed the first time through. so that's a reason to play through this a second time (the alt dresses too). this game goes NG+ really well.

I'm still not that far in, chapter 6, but Roche is a terrible character. Just horrible. Doesn't fit at all, is way too anime-y and over the top and doesn't fit with the dark nature of the original characters at all. Just feels out of place. Every time I've seen him it's been total cringeworthy.

100%. I liked the fight with him, but as a character, he really doesn't fit. Terrible addition to the game.

You've signed into PSN at least once and/or made sure your USB device is formatted correctly?
Yep, my USB key might be the problem. Only had an old one lying around.

Someone is picking up the console tomorrow and I'm heading to work so didn't have much time to fiddle with it so now it's in its box all packaged

Thanks for your help though :)

Just finished it at 35.5 hours. Really enjoyed just about the whole thing and am sad it's over. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get a follow up for many years to come and I have no idea how they're going to keep this quality going in a much expanded world. They have their work cut out for them.

I gotta say, I really have a love/hate relationship with the battle system in this game. On one hand, it's fast-paced and a lot of fun, but on the other hand (and maybe I just suck), I feel like it's consistently unfair to the player. My main gripes:

  • AI companions not doing shit. I really wish they made this more like FFXII where you could customize your party's gambit or something. In this, your party members are basically useless unless you take control of them, which is really kind of unwieldy for a real-time combat system.
  • Abilities constantly being interrupted. Due to the fast paced nature of battles, it's quite hard to tell what's going on at times and I really suck at timing my attacks.
  • Abilities constantly missing. Closing the distance and landing an ability against many foes can feel like a miracle at times. So many of the enemies are extremely mobile, can use stun moves, and just dance around constantly to the point that half of the abilities in the game feel almost useless due to their wind-up times. Like holy shit, Limit Breaks should not be missable.
  • Cutscenes and HP-gated phase changes interrupting your abilities/spells, and even Limit Breaks, wasting your ATB bars and MP, etc. Some of the end-game fights were completely ridiculous in this regard.
  • Limited ATB bars! This was my second biggest frustration to interrupting attacks. I feel like you're constantly starved of ATB bars to take actions, and combined with the above interruption frustrations, it really just wasn't very enjoyable a lot of the time. It also made me almost never use items outside of elixirs and phoenix downs, since their value compared to their ATB bar cost just wasn't there...
Now, I never lost a battle or got a game over on my first play through, but I came close a few times and still feel like the battle system could use some work. Maybe I just need to learn how to get gud or something. If anyone has any good YouTube videos to watch before trying Hard Mode, please let me know!

I agree
Roche is arguably the worst and flattest new character in the game.
(even Madame M is more characterized than Roche)

It will definitely be an advantage to have a save file with everything on it. No doubt about that. Will it be ESSENTIAL? no, because they’ll design it so new players can still jump in and easily compete and still have the essential weapons and materia to start the game. But it’ll be better to already have it all levelled and have 2 elemental, and 2 Magic+ materia because i bet they won’t just be handing those out to everyone.

For instance the magic+ stacks to 4, and we only got 2 in this game, so likely only get 2 in the next game. Also elemental materia needs a huge amount of AP, so better to simply max both of them out now. And revive materia take ages too. I’m getting it all done now.

Agree with lots of this. Only thing i’d say is you basically are always in control of all 3 characters because on Hard Mode it’s essential to use R2 and L2 buttons to issue orders to your other 2 characters and also swap constantly between them to confuse the AI. On normal it’s so easy you can just not bother doing so much work and thinking but that 100% changes on hard more, which is the way the game is intended to be played (90% of the manuscripts
only gettable on Hard). I also think if we could issue gambits the game would be so easy it’d be pointless. I mean there’s only 3 really hard battles as it is, (Rufus Shinra, Hell House and Ghoul), so imagine adding gambits into the mix.

Agree entirely limits should never miss and the bosses shouldn’t be able to cheat by changing to a new phase in the middle of an attack. that’s really annoying.

Too late the console is gone. I was thinking of keeping it for TLOU2 but after the leaks I sold it as soon as I was done with ff7.

Thanks though

You need to get gud bro, joking!!

I think you gotta remember that you shouldn't use just one character for long. Go there, fill some ATB, move to the next, more ATB and when the bar is full just your skills/magic. Rinse and repeat.

About missing attacks, there are some enemies designed to avoid certain types of attacks, like those skaters. Use Assess to read about it. Concerning magic, they also behave differently. Ice is easy to miss since it stays in on place. Thunder on the other hand will ALWAYS hit.

Another example is Cloud's blade burst, it will always hit straight, so you gotta use only in static enemies. Basically you have to learn pros and cons of each skill to apply them in battle.

anyone got good strategies and/or load outs for Valkyrie on hard mode. i only tried twice but got worked despite the fact i was nailing it with wind and lightning (it's weaknesses) and it barely even budged it's stagger bar... which is of course bull shit.

i looked up a couple videos of other people beating it and they were hardly using magic. mostly just using physical attacks, running and dodging, and healing/reviving when necessary, rinse-repeat. like, why tf are you going to tell us its weakness when youre better off just using physical attacks and healing... wheres the strategy in that?

seems like their has to be a better strategy for this..... really pisses me off when they give you a weakness for an enemy, and you target that but it barely does anything :messenger_pouting:

yall have any good strat's or should i just bull rush the motherfucker and heal like crazy?

Lightning + Elemental materia for Barret or Tifa, skills to build stagger and then hit it with magic. I thinks that's how I did it. It sure took me some time to finish the battle.

didn't expect the tonberries and the two robots in the final phase. Really enjoying how they handled the hard mode.

Not a big fan of Roche neither. I think his role is just to exemplify how crazy and excentric Soldiers 1st class are, which is a cool idea, but it could have been handled better.
He’s a 3rd class soldier.

Definitely agree with a lot of this. Those as others note, I kind of like that the ATB system forces you to constantly switch between characters to build their meters. Otherwise I'd have stuck with Cloud the whole time and it was fun playing them all. I do agree that it would be nice to set the AI a bit though. I don't want anything like FF12's convuluted gambit systems though. That made my eyes glaze over, found it boring when it came to combat and dropped the game after 25ish hours when I got stuck fighting a bomb. But it would be nice to at least have some basic things you could set like focus on healing or focus on physcial or magic attacks etc.

Totally agree on being interrupted being frustrating, as well as things that miss. The blizzard spells were the worst for me when trying to stagger a mobile foe with that weakness. In all the combat also just never really jived with me. I got a handful of game overs, but was never stuck (never died more than once on any one fight) or frustrated. It was just combat that I liked a TON more than menu-driven turn based stuff or the kind of turn based stuff in something like FF12 or Xenoblade. But I just prefer mindless hack and slash real time combat to be honest. I play RPGs for the story and the more complex/strategic the combat the less likely I am to finish it or replay it.

On that front, I looked into the end game content and it looked like the only thing I may want to do at some point is replay chapter 9 to do the other two side quest options (Sam's as I did Madame M's the first time). Other than that I don't care about the arena/battle sim, unlocking all the dresses or playing on hard mode. I may just leave it and do a replay down the road in the months before part 2's release. For now, I've moved onto Kingdom Hears 1.5 HD Remix--bought the full collection when it was on sell for $30 a while back and have never played any of them.

Have prayer equiped too, it's incredible for long fights. I leave on character casting it almost too often.

Chakra is useful as well for your main up close fighter. I started using it way too late as it would have saved my ass a few times earlier on when I had less MP for casting Cura.

yep, already got three of those (maxed out) on my whole party :messenger_tears_of_joy:

its really just a matter of me trying to nail this things weakness to stagger and then let loose with abilities, but the magic isnt filling the stagger bar up fast enough, and you cant really attack bc its mostly aerial (which is why i was pounding it with aerora and aeroga... so really, youre only "regular attack" option is barrett using his gun from long range, which means youd just have to ignore cloud and tifa, and just shoot with barrett, which is exactly what i see other players doing. i just think thats dumb and not fun or strategic at all). on top of all that i wind up getting pounded while im waiting to cast the magic (im using -ara and -aga attacks mostly since the base magic really wasnt doing enough) and then i have no bars left to heal so...... ugh.... i still contend the battle needs a lot of tweaking, but its mostly great so i cant complain too much.

the videos i watched people seemed to have better luck attacking a lot, healing, then whole segments of just dodging and blocking (not even switching characters that much) and then rinse repeat. they werent even using magic all that much.

seems to me if the game is giving me a weakness for the enemy, then thats they key to staggering... but in this battle, for example, thats not really doing the trick.... just kind of a downer when you use strategy but it turns out being strategic wasn't the best route ya know?

anyway, done bitching now, gonna try to take this thing down now that im off work. thanks for the help!

Final Fantasy VII: Remake: Part IV: Reunion (but spelled in Latin)

Sephiroth: Our final battle shall no longer be fantasy. Come, Cloud.
Cloud: I . . . I will . . . I will defeat you!

Then all of a sudden. . .

begins to play and in the distance:

Roche: HAHAHAHAHAHA. Did someone say "Vroom?" HAHAHAHA

He will then proceed to run Sephy over with his motorcycle and try to kiss Cloud.

and I'm okay with that

I have finished the game, but didn't really spend as much time with the gameplay as I usually do with RPGs. Had a nice time with it. Will combine my thoughts later.

Yeah, it's pretty amazing!

How the sound people turned the already cool vanilla boss theme into a 10 minute symphonic rock overture masterpiece is worth 9999 Gold Saucer GP.

I love this track.

Also I don't mind Roche but I wish they'd flesh him out a little more than just being an anime trope.

Equip HP UP
The character need at least 7000 hp.
Also Elemental materia lv 2 or 3, equipped to the accessory with thunder materia.
And remember to also equip barrier materia and heal materia.

I saved the game right at the end of the midgay highway in Chapter 18 before what I presume is the last bosses. I've cooled off on this game quite a bit, I wasn't even that interested to play it that last two days. I'm doing the fight now and I'm just not a fan of a lot of this expanded stuff. Who is this colossus? Why am I fighting 3 versions of it in a DMC knock off like 3 times in a row? It's tedious and I am ready for this to be over. Like I just died on the last segment of that fight and now I have to do the whole fucking thing over again, give me a goddamn checkpoint.

I enjoy the game and am on board for the rest of it, but I do see the other side of the coin a bit better now and would really have enjoyed a more focused reimagining of just what happened in the original.

I'm 55 hours in, sitting on chapter 16, and I simply gotta say that this is my favourite RPG of this generation by a mile, and my Game of the Year so far.

I'm taking my time with the game since I've been doing all side content and grinding a little, both characters and materia.

The combat system is simply phenomenal, top tier for me. I don't know how they did it, but I honestly think that from here onward I'm not going to have an easy time playing other RPG's. They will appear dull to me.

Just the combo system for Tifa, and those animations, jesus...

AngryTemptingHound-max-1mb.gif

The blend between fast paced and turn based is so damn good and strategic. Always changing characters mid battle, chaining combos, in pursuit of that stagger meter, I really really like it.

The game gives you so much, be it unique abilities that you can learn from weapons, materia combinations, skills to learn from enemies.

It managed this in the past, and thanks to the treatment they gave to the remake, it's even better this time around.

Visually it is a joy to watch, even though the game has some textures problems here and there (which will be fixed in the next-generation I guess, since they take their time to load). But in the crucial parts it's like we're rewatching Advent Children. For instances, in chapter 16, I felt like a little kid visiting a theme park. So damn cool.

I think the game is structure in a good way, with chapters more linear and others more open. It helps the game establish it's pace, and I think it's a good one.

Regarding the narrative, I like the way they expanded the characters, they feel more unique, human and emotional. They did an amazing job, specially with Jessy, Wedge and Bigs. Hell, even Marlene is adorable.

I still have to figured it out what the hell they're doing with Sephiroth though. From what I remember, he is emerging much sooner. Almost there, I guess.

In the original we didn't have those specter things, too.

My only grip with the game is that this is only the first part. It's an amazing first part, but it will be a torture waiting for part 2 and 3 (assuming this is a 3 part game).

I beat it, it was pretty great overall. I wasn't expecting to be able to retain my experience and materia for Hard mode, I might actually give that a try. What are you supposed to do for MP regeneration? The only ability that I think I was aware of that did that was Aerith's Soul Drain or whatever and it didn't seem to be giving me very much back so I barely ever used that, kind of wondering how they expect you to get through some areas if you can't use items or benches for MP.
