So I went to the SE Account manager, and tried to see if I had to do some free activation there. Clicked reactivate hoping it would show me what my fee would be, but it just activated instead without confirmation. I quickly cancelled, and I see no charge on my bank account, but my cancellation date puts me out of the promotion. Except some pages list the old date.

So I guess I'm fucked.

I don't think you needed to reactivate, you should have just been able to log in :/
It's all explained in the link, the reactivation is just there to entice you to reactivate.

You can't change the password on a deactivated POL account. I know because I looked since I'm getting the same error on my second account.

The reactivation might just be for the POL account, not the actual service options (characters) that you pay for. When you reactivate, check the status on the character options on the account. If they say recurring, you might have to watch out, if they don't you're good to go.

Yeah I know about the gaf server on Sylph, I would have joined but I feel too much time has past for me, while I love FFXI, my heart just isn't in it for the long run like I use to be otherwise I'd be all diehard, thanks for the offer though but I don't wanna waste anyone's time.

SL was level 50. Pre-all expansions and level cap raises.

No, all of them (his characters) appear as cancelled on the SE account manager. It's weird because mine appear just like his and I have no problems login in.

Nope. Pretty sure there never was for him, and mission level caps are all gone now.

Sidenote, only doing the story through SL is so so so incomplete. Heck the last CS doesn't even make sense till you get the first RotZ one. If you are just playing for story, you owe to yourself to play through RotZ and CoP - they are all one story basically.

I don't think you can transfer if you're just in it for the campaign.

Welp, so I bought the complete edition on a whim. I've been playing FFXIV recently and really enjoying it so I want to see how the current FFXI plays as well.

I actually had an old account and thought I'd jump in on the Come Back Event but I never linked my playonline account to my SE account; looks like it's lost forever now.

I'm finally getting into this game! We had a terrible PC and dial-up back in the day, so I recently grabbed the Ultimate Seekers Edition for 360.

After figuring out how to register, I'm currently waiting for the hours and hours of updates to install. So, I'm researching the game. I've played plenty of MMOs (WoW, LotRO, FFXIV, etc) so this shouldn't be too shocking.

I'm thinking of starting with Red Mage. Any server suggestions?

Yep, Sylph for most of us. We normally have a pretty stable group, and yeah, a bit more activity recently due to the campaign.

I'm in/around San'Doria, but I can't seem to locate any of the 4 names mentioned in the OP, and sending a tell doesn't say if that person is even online. I'm probably not using the systems correctly. If someone could find me, I'm Markken the Elvaan red mage.

If I remember right, it is /sea "name" to search for a certain person.

You'd probably get an error if you /tell someone that's offline, IIRC.

Still possibly my favorite game of all time. No other MMO can compare to it for me in terms of its depth and the feeling of a real existing world. Maybe some of the older ones compare (Ultima, EQ, etc.) but no modern MMO has held a candle to it.

I refuse to get sucked back in though.

Been trying all weekend to play in the free event. No dice. Everything is as it should be (my Content IDs and characters show up on the SE site as cancelled, etc.) and I can get through POL to the FFXI Play button, at which point the problem surfaces: no Content IDs are linked within POL. When attempting to manually link them to your Handle (or a new Handle) in POL, the list is empty. So they show up on the SE website, but those characters are not being fed into the POL side of things.

I can't say for certain what the issue is, but the best guess I've come across based on everyone else's experiences coupled with my own is that you're screwed if you had not linked your POL details to your SE-ID prior to the 8th. If I'm putting the disparate stories together correctly (and who knows whether I am), linking POL-ID to SE-ID after the 8th makes the related Content IDs ineligible for POL to bypass their 'cancelled' status, hence they don't show up.

Shame, would have been fun to check it out.

Ended up spending most of today getting all of the Extavaganza Trusts. Just have Ovjang and Mnejing left. 3000 Assault points each. I've never done Assault before. Is that easy to get quickly? I've always had 'Get to Captain rank" on my "Do eventually" list. So maybe I'll just start on that. Glad I finally got Tenzen and Joachim. I was so bitter about missing those. Just found out I missed Mumor though. I was even online everyday she was available but I didn't know she existed.

I had to log in for this campaign thing just so I could wander around in the old zones and ride an airship again (the jump-on-the-ledge trick on the airship still works!). Brought back some pleasant memories.

The controls and UI haven't really aged well. I forgot how clunky and unintuitive they could be, although most of it I remembered purely from muscle memory. It reaaaally sucks not having all my macros though. I guess I had never uploaded them to the server before I had cancelled.

... The server's so damn empty. I think I had done a /sea all and there were maybe almost 800 people in the entire Quetzacotl server. I could count on two hands the number of people I passed in each old zone. All my memories were of days long past with thriving populations. That made it sort of depressingly bittersweet to me. I started obtaining the Trust NPCs, but realized my heart just wasn't in attempting to level any of my lvl 75 jobs.

I won't be re-subbing, but it was a nice blast from the past.

Ugh. Why the hell do they make limited time Trusts only obtainable via purchase with restricted gain currency. I'm not sure if I'll be able to buy Ovjang and Mnejing with the remaining IDs I have before Wednesday.
