My progress report after about a month of playing now:
Lookin for advice, I've been trying to keep up with skills by fighting EM and Ts, but even still I'm having trouble being capped. The result of this however, is that I'm getting pretty burnt out on soloing for XP now that I'm not leveling as frequently. I still haven't gone past Zilart in terms of maps. There has to be a better way to level.
I've been playing Samurai since they seem pretty strong right now, and I need something to beat Maat with (should be easy as long as my skills don't miss). I've been keeping up on skills for this reason. Do those worm parties still exists? And can I do worthwhile damage in them at 71 (trial weapon)? Using Mithkabobs atm.

Yeah. Worm parties are still a thing. I use them to get crazy fast merit points. You won't be doing any stellar damage at first but it'll get you to 99 real fast.
I want to level a few more jobs so I can get the Maat Trust, but unlike the Worm parties, the Gusgen Mines and Crawler's Nest parties are gone. Even the Bloodsucker party is usually gone now. I have no idea where to get a fresh character to the 60s.

What server are you on?
You can use Records of Emminence sparks to cap the skills you need before a maat fight if you are having a slog of it trying to skill up.
Soloing is pretty damn fast till 50. I used this guide for a while

Pretty good if you dont care about keeping up on skills (after 50).
Asura. Yeah, might spend a few, however, the returns don't seem that great, 200 sparks for 0.2 to 0.5... but I already have a good amount of the 99 weapons, full Outrider, and Temachtiani already so. Can see parry being hard to max as well.

You gain sparks pretty easy at higher levels, and they cap at 50k, so usem or losem.
You playing with friends?
Yeah, I just got 50k again, gonna cap my gkatana for Maat.
Been playin by myself. I probably could'a found a linkshell by now I just haven't looked or asked. Loner.

Thanks. Yeah. I figure I can power level the 3 more jobs I need for the Maat Trust to 99, then just slap some Sparks gear on them and wreck him. Already beat him with Monk, Samurai, and Warrior. Not sure what I should do next.

EST, only "event" day is tuesday at 9 EST where we always try and get something done for someone or just farm some voidwatch or something.
usually there's a couple folks around here and there outside that. If you're not really in a group at the moment anyway you have nothing to lose (cept a transfer fee).

Codex (Tai), who used to play with us on IHOP has passed away today due to kidney failure. He was a great guy and always a lot of fun to play with. He's been heavily involved in 14 for the past year or so and there was a huge cross server vigil held for him as he was in critical condition. It hit kotaku recently and all the available information is in this article pretty much.

Finally got my Black Belt. Bought a Red Pondweed for 400k, failed. Then Bought another for 500k and payed a Thief 1M to help me with Treasure Hunter and got the drop. 1.9M is all I spent on the entire quest. I made about 3M along the way. Not too bad I say.
40 days in now; rank 10 Bastok, cleared Zilart, and just got my first job to 99 (and all respective limit breaks). Things are lookin up! Now to start on CoP. Missions should be a breeze now with this crazy i117 gear.

I'm ready for the next belt. Starting to think they changed their mind about adding it though. Now I just need to clear the Abyssea zone bosses, get Captain Mercenary rank, and run through Seekers of Adoulin. Think I'll take a break and play XIV though. I've fallen pretty far behind.
Yup. A breeze. You probably won't need help except for escort missions through the end of WotG. There's one I needed help for in ToAU, and a handful in WotG.

ToAU has like, 6 JP Midnight waits throughout the story. At least it did earlier this year. Nothing like logging on on a day off, planning to play a good chunk of ToAU, only to do one mission then be told to wait until tomorrow.

I hope no one minds me asking this here but I just recently picked up FFXI again. I figured since neogaf does have some community members in japan that I might get some advice here as well.
About 2 years ago during the 10 anniversary of FFXI some merchandise was made available that came with game codes for costume items. I have no idea if any still even exist in tact but I suppose I'm just looking for any advice I might be able to get to find these if I can at all.
The items I'm looking for were the 10th anniversary crab and goblin pen which came with ingame codes for Gobbie Gavel and Shell Scepter.

I have a set of those! I got them from the official US SE store I think, I'm unsure if the codes would still be valid if you got them though. Doesn't look like they sell them anymore :/

I don't think there's a list, but you still have the old ones. It's just that they will be greyed out and non repeatable now.
New would be the new wanted NMs and I think a new Level Synch one (so said Aur). Lowered were Unity Chat and the Reives ones. All of mine which got cancelled due to an overzealous person.

I just finished ToAU and liked it better than CoP. Will probably start on WoTG today.
Should I bother with the Odin and Alexander fights? I looked through the rewards and they seem pretty meh, and I don't plan on playing SMN anytime soon. Thinking I'm going to just skip it and start the next campaign.
I'm starting to see the end of the tunnel for all this mission content. :O

They act as a nice epilogue to the ToAU story. Alexander doesn't take much time to do either. Unfortunately Odin's a different story. You have to repeat the quest and defeat Odin Prime 12 times in order to complete the story. You can only do it once a day too. You might just want to watch the cutscene on youtube or something.

Definitely do them so you can acquire the summons at least. Alex has a nice torque for mages.
This happened to me a couple times early on - gotta be careful with some of the pulls. It's definitely rage-inducing. What job were you on?

Since storing Relic Gear on slips can cause duplicates to fall, will keeping them in my mog house storage prevent duplicates?

Yeah, it should. You can also use addons like Treasury add them to an autodrop list, just be careful that you don't accidentally autodrop one that you actually want when you take them off the slip or something.
Ah, yeah, that's annoying.
I just have a spreadsheet in google docs that I use to track the relic gear I already have so that I know what to drop, even if they've been upgraded to ilvl versions or stored
Also, having them in your inventory doesn't increase the chance that you'll get the one you're missing, just in case that was what you were thinking. It doesn't decide that you're receiving a relic drop, then picks one you don't have. It chooses the relic drop, then hides it if you already have it.

Sub Dancer, avoid spellcasters, wear the highest ilevel gear you can afford for the magic evasion. Consider a crossbow with some sleep bolts or something in case things get hairy. Definitely learn where the safe spots are, and you'll do best in the dreamlands zones.

What's the best way to beat this solo? It's the Adelheid escort mission vs Quadav in Wings of the Goddess. You can't summon trusts for this fight, so what job(s) do I need to level? My sam/war combo has hit its limit in the campaign I think. Guessing I need a AoE and/or healing magic.

Just shout for help in a populated area until someone answers. It took me a few hours to get a response but that's not too bad. I duoed this one as a MNK/DNC. I think the guy helping me was a Black Mage. Regardless, this is by far the most difficult mission to solo in the game (not including SoA). I really wouldn't recommend trying to solo it.
I know people who SWEAR it can be solo'd with AoEs now but...
UGH. Worst Mission Ever. Aur and I were stuck on it for well over a year. My hatred for Adelheid is extreme and I slap her every time I run into her in Bastok (S). Good luck. *shudder*
