I have to mention that I'm getting sick and tired of a few of my friends saying stuff to me like this:
-> "WHY DON'T YOU LIKE THE STORY? It makes complete sense!!" (They say this
now.)
-> "The cutscenes are good. How could you not like the intro? That scene with Alyssa was touching!" (I'm not touching this one with a 10-foot pole.)
-> "But they explain everything! How can you want more concrete answers than that?" (Because they aren't concrete answers at all. Everything is just "a paradox did it". That's not concrete at all.)
-> "Caius is one of the best villains ever. His motivations are cool! You just have bad taste in villains." (His motivations are like
. And fuck you, I have good taste in villains. My favourite villains are
here, and tack on Majora and we're good to go.)
-> "How can you say this game is easy? A lot of the bosses are challenging. Maybe you're just grinding." (Actually, not anymore. I'm not max levels with anyone at all, and am spreading my points around rather logically because I'm only using two characters. If I'm finding the game ridiculously easy with just two characters on the highest difficulty possible, there's a problem. The game has lost its sense of balancing, and it gets rather boring to fight fodder.)
-> "You should like this game. It's like Chrono Trigger. You love Chrono Trigger." (I'm just going to hold my tongue on this. I'll just say that I completely disagree.)
Essentially, they're frustrated that I'm not getting much out of the narrative bits of the game. It's because this kind of narrative isn't what I'm interested in; I prefer RPG storytelling like Suikoden, Mother, Fire Emblem, anything by Matsuno, etc. I don't really get into this stuff, lol, so I don't see why they're trying to
force me into liking the narrative. It's very irritating.
However, I find this game more fun than FFXIII. The quests at least have more variety than "go kill this and 5-star it" (which was already easy in FFXIII if you used Tier-1 weapons, and didn't use stat-enhancers). And the Fragments have some story bits if you go into the menu and read them (hahahahaha--I shall admit that they're more informative than the NPCs who repeat themselves). And I like that I can go wherever I want whenever I want. It's nice.
I found it hard to get invested due to lack of context.
I found it hard to get invested due to me not caring at all for things like that. I'm typically wowed by substance, not flash.
OK, now you've got me started!
Archadian Ardent (Bronze) - Hold 28 Pinewood Chops and one Sandalwood Chop at the same time
Want Fries With That? (Bronze) - Get Ktjn the Viera a job in a sundries store
Airships Make Me Happy (Bronze) - Without ever having used one yourself, meet the Archadian boy who looks down on teleport stones
Tchita Rally (Bronze) - Reach the Tchita Uplands or further on a chocobo caught in Ozmone
(And for the other Matsuno SE masterpiece, Vagrant Story, the titles, already in the game, that they give you for finishing the game with various constraints (no Break Arts, for example) would all make fine trophies.)
NOW they need to make FFXII HD. It's a game that's just
made for trophies like that. Not to mention it's fun to play through (the IZJS version moreso).
