Final Fantasy XIII |OT2|

For treasure Hunter do you just need every weapon/accessory or do you need every little item as well? Phoenix down, Mallet, etc?

No, spamming Death is definitely NOT the best way to farm those things (I know, because I had something like 45 kills before I got my first trap, no reloading).

It's been ages since I played it now, but basically you take Fang, Lightning and Vanille, get all the buffs in, use genji gloves and high wind to take out the legs, soon as it hits the deck, spam it with debuffs and start pounding it. Since you're not reloading you should make a fair bit of cash from the plat ingots, which you can use to buff up your weapons for faster kills. You can eventually get the kill time down to 2-3 minutes, and none of that reloading/TP hoarding/praying Death lands nonsense.

I have nothing but fond memories of this game, I really don't understand the hate it gets.

Yeah that's the strat I was trying to get at. But the person asking isn't strong enough to do that right now. I think he needs to complete some missions first to get a Genji glove for both Fang and Lightning before he attempts.

Meh, a second glove for Lightning really isn't necessary (I only started using a second at the very end), though yeah, essential for Fang.

Yep, but you do need every weapon (so everyone's T1/T2 for each weapon and then a single T3 weapon per character).

And death spamming works great until you have a strong enough party to switch to fang spamming.

Not necessarily, if you get the weapon, you can keep it, sell it for more Gil or upgrade it.

Right now I'm farming the turtles. Its already starting to get annoying. Currently, I can kill each in 2.5 minutes so its not to bad.

Its just all the walking. Right now my run consists of activating Mission 63 to spawn one of the turtles plus a guaranteed Gold Nugget each run. What is everyone ones favorite route? My current one nets 6 turtles I think?

EDIT:

I believe you need to aim for about 2k strength with fang buffed with Bravera (not Bravery) to one shot each leg with Genji Gloves. I used 3 x Max Power Glover (250 strength each) + Genji Glove wielding a max Venus Gospel (390 strength).

Where are you farming turtles? I believe it's better to not activate the Long Guis yet as they are so much harder and longer to kill and don't necessarily drop gold nuggets all the time (if I remember correctly).

Although I do recommend farming Edenhall's only turtle and you can respawn it by saving/quitting/loading the game since the turtle is near the save point or enter/exit the map.

Edenhall's turtle won't be replaced by a Long Gui after you finish mission 63.

I can definitely see how people can hate on this game. It's took about 3 hours just for the battle system to start opening up. It's very old school, linear, and story heavy...but you know what.. I'm actually enjoying it. Why? because it's well... sort of RELAXING. I can play this game a little bit before bedtime and not get too worked up. Everything is sort of laid out for me and I don't get punished for screwing up. I like the auto battle, restored health after fights, and awesome restart point if I get killed. I guess it's like the exact opposite of say Demon Souls which I actually have no interest to play. This game is like the easy listening of videogames. Soooothing! If that sounds like something you'd hate..stay away!

Death spamming is never a good method to deal with turtles. Using Sazh is always more reliable.

The only enemy I would say spamming Death is ever a good idea on is Neochu.
I was never able to get the Sazh method down. I was able to get the death spam method to like 95% kill rate in edenhall. Only bad thing about the method was needing to recharge tp but with the right accessories you can get 3 off the mobs between the door and the turtle. Takes awhile unlike the fang method (no need to use the door to reload mobs, just run and touch to respawn the turtle) but like I said with upgraded weapons on vanille and low stats I was able to farm turtles no prob. Fang method is a million times better though.

I'm farming the turtles in Gran pulse. Is eden hall faster? I don't even know how much gold I'm supposed to aim for the achievement. Right now I'm just farming the turtles (with growth egg) to max out the entire the crystairum.

It was faster for me though.

I did my crystarium maxing at Taejin's Tower (Mission 24) and it took a while.

I must suck or something, can't kill the turtles without a summon.

Fang's at 3k attack and genji's lawl. My best attempts left the turtle at around 30% hp's and died before being able to kill the legs again.

I'm going with Fang (3k attack) Vanille (2,6k magic) and Hope (2,7k magic).

Geez.

It gets pretty frantic later on, so keep that in mind.

Scrap my last post, I just did it!

3 minutes, 5 stars and OF COURSE nothing dropped.

Hahaha oh man after reading your posts I really feel for you.

I spent the better part of a week non-stop playing and only ever got 3 traps. Pretty much said fuck it after that and not played it since.

Thank you dude!

Everyone's like "oh, traps? no problem, they're easy to come by". God damn lol. Luckily I have a great sense of humor and I'm laughing my ass off but it's nice to know there's at least someone out there who knows about the trap pains.

Anyways I now know how to take down the big turtles (well, the ones chained at the valley, the roamers with 5 million hps own me with that shriek attack) so well.

Almost there for platinum!

Have a few easy missions left to 5-star (did all the hard ones first), then 5 star final boss, then finish off upgrade of weapons (have a bunch of gil stockpiled for this).

Fuck yeah! Got Platinum!

I was stuck for awhile then realized the only way you get a titanium bangle is from buying one. Haha. :lol

w00t!

Never playing this game again.

I think it depends on how strong you are when you first decide to fight them.
Death was, at first anyway, much faster...I could not kill them legitimately, without a lot of time and effort, when I first started farming. At that point it was much more efficient to death them.
Of course, after a short while of 'deathing' them I was powered up enough to handily beat them in a head on fight.

Ouch @ 45 fights before your first trap. I actually got 2 in a row once :|

slightly off topic. i bought fang's play arts figure from amazon, a question to those who own both fang and lightning, is fang more poseable after you take off her sari?

I'm about 17 hours in and just arrived
on the Palamecia
. Is this a good time to start upgrading my weapons, or should I wait?

Eh, you could. Chapter 11 is where you get all the good materials though so it might be better to wait unless you're struggling.

I have every accessory, every tier 1 weapon, 4 mil Gil.
How much Gil do I need to upgrade every weapon to the tier for treasure hunter trophy ?
Something like 10 mil Gil will be enough ?

Just make a separate save and sell off everything you aren't upgrading. You only need to have held each accessory once. You should have more than enough gil even without needing to do that.

You shouldn't really need to...

Where you're at is a great place to grind and max everything though. You can upgrade, and the cash you pick up there (I think the enemies drop some good stuff you can sell...), but its not essential. For Lightning I made sure to have as much ATB boosting stuff as possible at that point. It helps, but you don't really need to.

Again, great grind point if you're feeling overwhelmed and underleveled.

I am on my fourth playthrough and realized I haven't even tried to upgrade my weapons into their Ultimate forms. I know what it entails and all that, but I am wondering if there are things you actually need them for to survive. Like incredibly tough marks. Or are they just for completionists? Could you do all 64 missions without even needing them?

I feel kinda lame, but I always like restarting FF games and having a little something left to discover when I replay them. I hope this is the last time on this game for a while though.

I am afraid of selling, I'm trying to get the trophy for far too long.

Trust me, it works. Just make a separate save far away from your main one and go to town selling stuff.

But again, you might not need to. See how far you can upgrade your weapons with the gil you have. Remember, you only need to upgrade 1 weapon per person to tier 3 while the rest can stay at tier 2. I think you only need like 1 ultracompactorreactionarydoohickey (whatever the hell it's called) to upgrade any given weapon to tier 2.

I only made like one or two ultimate weapons, and still did perfectly fine against every enemy in the game. I honestly could have stuck with the default weapons through everything if I wanted to. For all the work you have to do to make them, they don't quite live up to the effort.

The main reason you should get the upgrades is because it makes fights drag a little less.

From the sound of it I think I might just get them for one or maybe two of my main three characters. Glad to hear they aren't an actual necessity for later missions. Thanks.

I'll try, thankfully I have 6 treph.

i beat the game yesterday and was left extremely unsatisfied, i guess this must be what it feels like to get blue balled. i played the game because i loved some of the character designs, and what happened in the end to my favourite character who had almost no development or enough background story at all was just...yeah...
what a waste of such awesome character/world concepts, it had so much potential.

I beat the entire game and all missions except 2 with base weapons. I think it makes it more exciting this way.

I... I don't think I've head that one before.

Playing this right now.

Those first couple hours nearly killed me. Everything is all disjointed, the only commands are fight, area-attack, and heal, and my God the characters. The first few meetings with Vanille I just..was just...shhhhheeeeeshhhhh.

It's getting better though.

As much hate as this game gets the soundtrack is incredible.

Picked this up a week ago. Wanted to get the Limited Edition but it's too expensive right now. Ah well. I'm loving the tracks on this and the box itself is presented in such a slick way. If only Square put this much effort into the gameplay. :lol
