Final Fantasy XIII |OT2|

Okay...just curious if he's using both a maxed out collector's catalog and a connesseuirs catalog. I've had 4 drop naturally like that and did one dismantle to get the other 2.

Yeah, I've been using these.

I've been doing the save/reload routine but no luck. Maybe tonight I'll give it a final go.

I finally need to Platinum this, fun game but tedious at times. Any good game similar to FF for PS3? I mean super-strong attacks, summons, etc.?

Haha, so pissed. Decided to create an alternate save and try to upgrade/sell as I go. I got down to the last weapon, Organyx, and I'm short by 210k :lol

I mean I sold everything...weapons, collector's catalogs. I have the starting weapons unleveled. I still have my genji gloves tho.

It took me like 2 hrs to upgrade/sell everything. I think I'll go back to my saved game and farm a few more ingots before attempting again. So frustrating.

Er.... Star Ocean 4?

Either Resonance of Fate or Star Ocean 4 International.

Got Treasure Hunter. I will never, ever do anything like that for a trophy ever again, S-E, you mark my fucking words yo masochistic sons of bitches.

Anyway, two more 5-star ranks and the Platinum is mine. Feels good man. Sort of. Those two missions are going to be hell on wheels.

Okay guys, I was going to order FFXIII used for $15 from GameFly, but then I decided to repurchase Assassin's Creed 2 because I've regretted selling it for a long time. Anyway, today I bit the bullet. Hope it'll be worth it.

You got Treasure Hunter before 5-starring everything? You must have access to pretty much everything. Just upgrade a bunch of awesome accessories and go nuts on those last 2 missions.

Eh like I said, I only have 2 missions left and I just made another save file for the rest of the weapon upgrading.

What missions are those Brandon?

Oh, the final mission. Yeah just equip crappy accessories, wear a gold watch (if you have it), then use Vanille spam poison and let the rest defend or heal and you're good to go. :D

I don't believe that for a second. The first time I did mission 64, it took me like 2 days to beat the damn thing and it was with luck :lol

If he got treasure hunter, then he already has the Gold Watch...

unless he sold it which would be an incredible oversight

Well, I transformed my Gold Watch into a Champion's Badge. Apparently I missed the Champion's Badge so I had no choice.

I didn't believe it either at first. I remember getting frustrated 5-starring the last mission and when I saw that strategy, it worked well. :lol

Watch a video on youtube or something. It's easy as hell with a maxed crystarium and the right paradigms. Hell, you can keep your awesome equipment since the target time is still pretty high.

Mission 64 was a fucking joke, unfortunately.

Ruby Weapon, Omega Weapon, Ozma, Penance, and Yiazmat beats the living shit out of it...

You could have gone back to Eden - Siren Park rand gotten it. It's in a chest near one of the round abouts at ground level.

I five starred it on my first try.

I'm more concerned with mission 62.

Anyway, did more farming. Got 5 platinum ingots to drop in a row last night. :lol

Let me explain.

I set up shop at turtle valley up north. My routine was 4 cactuars, 4 adamanchelids and then a big turtle using Vanille's Death. I raked in enough CPs to max all three main roles per char (this is after final boss, crystarium fully opened).

Not a single trapezohedron.

Then, I set up at the save spot and proceeded to do the save/reload routine to skip the time required to farm the 3 TPs needed for the summon.

Two sessions and 15 turtle kills later, no trapezohedron.

Fuck this game, fuck Square Enix and fuck the wankers who designed and programmed this piece of shit.

Just finished the game, took me +70 hours, and I liked most of it. Excluding the more tiresome parts in the beginning, where the story didn't seem to move forward, and you couldn't change your team members.

My question is, does the game have a new game+ feature, and if it does how does it differ? Do you just get to keep all your items, or what?

FF13 has an innovative game+ feature called "kill tortoise-looking monsters for 200 hours".

I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I'm not interested in chasing the trophies, or complete every mission. What I'm interested in, is to play the game again with all the items I had, and see what abilities lie in the Crystarium stage that opened after the final battle, and possibly beat some of those monsters I couldn't on my first playthrough.

There's no game+, just the post-game turtle-induced madness.

The last level of the crystarium is just stats and 1 accessory slot per character.

I platinumed in under 60 hr, but I've seen times that range from 60hr to 100+hr.

Did you really take 200hr?

Blah. That's it then. =(

And there's no way of loading the file you saved after finishing the game, and have the last Crystarium stage open, with all the items in place, and be able to backtrack to Gran Pulse? Yeah, I'm grasping at straws here.

EDIT Just loaded the save, and it seems it's possible. =)

You can't restart the game with your items/crystarium unlocked, all you can do is go back to right before the final fight with your unlocked crystarium and your stuff.

Just a minor exageration. After 40 turtles and no traps I've given up - mind you, not even a single trap so I can do the multiplication trick. Just ingots or nothing.

Melchiah, there's one thing tho - equipping a tier 3 weapon gets the character a 6th ATB slot so I guess that's as far as character progression goes.

Well, you can BUY traps but 40 turtles and no traps is just bad luck that should even out over the long term. Even so, you should have gotten a good amount of gil from those 40 turtles from ingots.

What's a tier 3 weapon? I've got Ultima Weapon for Lightning, and Gungnir for Fang. IIRC, they've got 5 ATB slots. Is it possible to upgrade those weapons, and if it is, how?

All of Lightning's weapons turn into Omega Weapon and all of Fang's weapons turn into Kain's Lance. Once you Star a tier 2 weapon (such as Ultima Weapon or Gungnir), use a Trapezohedron to upgrade it into the final form.

Trapezohedrons are very expensive to buy, and are a very rare drop from those giant turtles you see around Gran Pulse...there is also one on Eden.

Half of these turtles were save/reload runs in order to skip building TPs for the summon.

So not that much gil. Have 400k on hand and waiting on traps and dark matter to move on.

5-starring a fight on any of the two big turtle types (the ones with tusks) + connoiseur catalog nets you a 5,5% chance of a trap drop.

Or you can buy one for the measly sum of 2 million gil.

Also while all weapons of a character share the same name when upgraded to tier 3, the stats change depending on which weapon you upgraded. Kinda confusing and a whole load of bullshit from Square Enix skimping on a few item names.

edit: you upgrade a tier 2 weapon (like Ultima for Lightning) by upgrading it up to star level (which means max) and then dropping a trap on it).

By the way, maxing a tier 3 weapon costs 1,5 million gil.

Happy turtle farming!

I think I'll pass. =) I've got Connoisseur Catalog, but no chance in hell to beat the big turtles, let alone with a 5-star rating.

I've maxed the Ultima Weapon, and Gungnir is on the 35th level. I think I'll try what I can do with the maxed out tier 2 weapons, because I sure as hell don't want to go through the trouble I did with FFX, when I maxed all the characters, and got the best weapons (sans Lulu's and Tidus', those I built ... damn lightning dodging and Chocobo racing). 370 hours in all for the playthrough and grinding. Never again.

Thanks to both of you for the info.

It's not that hard to 5-star a turtle if you have 2 genji gloves. One for Fang and one for Lightning. They should also have a decent weapon and some strength accessories.

You can summon Bahamut if you have the TP to get the turtle on the ground. At that point, debuff the turtle with at least Deshield, Deprotect, Imperil, and Slow. Haste on each character. Use RAV/RAV/RAV to stagger and bring to 999%. Then switch to COM/COM/COM and go to town. You should be able to have him completely killed or close to killed before he gets up or before the stagger wears off. In either case, that would be a good time to use Fang's Highwind move.

Um...so...I think I just got incredibly fucked over here.

Had 850k gil and then farmed another platinum ingot, sold it and some other stuff and had 1,060,050 gil. Tried to fight another turtle. He doesn't drop. So I quit and reload...now I only have 106,050 gil. Was me constantly fucking with the saves lop off a zero somewhere? So demotivated now.

edit: Guess I must have inadvertently opened the wrong save game and saved over my game with all the loot. Fuck.

Treasure Hunter is the only trophy I don't have. I just said "fuck that shit."

You couldn't pay me to kill a giant turtle that many times in a row.

Jeez :lol . I was able to do it in 60. Of course that was on my 2nd playthrough when I skipped most of the cutscenes and knew not to sell stuff.

Thanks for the tips. So, Fang should be the team leader? How Genji Gloves can be obtained?

BTW, after the Gran Pulse missions have been done, do you then get to face the gigantic creature looming in the horizon?

It's waaay easier to use Vanille's death.

Vanille/Fang/Hope as OBS/OBS/SYN, as soon as everyone is hasted switch to OBS/OBS/RAV and summon. Proceed to spam Death. Do not go into Gestalt mode as it wipes clean the stagger gauge and apparently higer stagger % increases the chance of Death landing. Once the turtle gets back on its feet quit the battle and restart since they are only vulnerable to Death while on the ground.

The only trick is that you need more than 10k hps per char in order to survive the turtle's first attack.

Genji gloves come from mission 62 and 63, AFAIK. Be careful with mission 62, if you beat all the missions on that circle all the turtles get replaced by mega-tough super-buffed turtles.

That giant thing on the horizon is Titan and you never fight it. He gets to challenge you with a series of missions tho.

I've still got a way to go for 10k hps. Lightning & Fang have currently +7k, Vanille and Hope have +6k (Hope has +800hp accessory). Any tips for the best place and monsters to max the characters?

So, do you advice to leave the completion of the circle in Gran Pulse for last?
What kind of missions does Titan challenge you with?

BTW, where and how can I get a Chocobo in order to reach those couple of places in Gran Pulse?

It is easier to use Death, but Death isn't guaranteed to land and you still have to save up TP to summon. Using my team you can take out each leg first then he will fall and you kill him. I can take each turtle out in 2:30-3 minutes without using Death.

edit: Chocobo can be obtained by first finishing Mission 13 and then Mission 14 (I believe).

edit edit: Saw how relatively weak his team still is...yeah...use Death to start out with. Make sure Vanille has at least a Belladona ---> Marlboro wand maxed for better debuffing.

My route of choice is turtle valley: it's up north in the middle. It has two entrances blocked by one big turtle each, however the western turtle (the one with the tail pointed at you) doesn't completely block the path. There's 3 small turtles there and on the hill you have a cactuar (by the way, the first time you access that hill you get a cutscene, after that cactuars spawn on the map). After the 4 kills, leave the valley - on the left along the ridge theres 1 cactuar. Head back after that one, to the right of the valley there's an elevated plain with two cactuars and a small turtle. 4 cactuars and 4 small turtles is around 75k CP's with the growth egg (which you get from mission 55 and at that power level you will need to use Vanille's Death to beat it, highly recommended you get it before starting your grind).

Small turtles drop bags of gold selling for 15k and the cactuars drop cactuar dolls selling for 12k.

About the circle, just do everything and leave mission 62 until you are sure you want to spawn the upgraded turtles.

As for the chocobos, just follow the south wall of the area towards west starting from the teleport/save spot combo near the eastern wall. You'll reach a place with a red barrier and a red stone. Beat that mission and the barrier goes down, follow the way to the chocobos. Once you activate the chocobos they'll spawn on several places.
