Final Fantasy XIII |OT2|

What world-twisting plot points are we talking about? The truth about Cocoon? I can't say I would have cared too much one way or the other.
I mostly cared about Lighting, I didn't really care about the world (outside of thinking that it looked beautiful) since I wasn't given enough of that world to see and explore and my time in it was "limited". To me FFXIII is more of a character driven game, where everything else is just a backdrop to have these characters act.
But see, that's my point. FFXIII tries to be a character-driven story. But at the last 1/3 of the game, it almost completely scraps that, most of the characters turn into generic motivational speech generators, and the story goes the FFX's way in twisting facts of the world (Truth behind Cocoon, truth behind Ragnarok, truth behind the Fal'Cie, etc). The player will hardly care about it, like you and me did, because it's totally out-of-place.

But not only is FFX's story better than FFXIII's when it comes to world development and immersion, it is also better as a character-driven story :lol. And it didn't have a datalog, and yes, the characters were also on the "run", in a way. They didn't want to delay their pilgrimage, so they rarely stopped to waste time. They did so probably as many times as the FFXIII's characters. Then, about half-way in FFX's progression, the characters, too, had to be on the run FFXIII-like. All that while the story always mantaing its writing "quality".

Btw, the cliché villain doing the boring and generic explanation here and there is imo a less offensive flaw than the fact that there isn't a real villain throughout the game, that antagonists characters are thrown away like rags and that you can tell who's gonna do what before they even do it.
Not having a real villain does not justify bad character development. The FFXIII villains are not only "villains": they are "characters" before that. Characters in a character-driven story, that have their importance on the game's premise. In that way, it is a lot like FFXII too. But while Gabranth, Vayne, Dr Cid, Venat, etc all were fleshed out enough for the thematics of the story, most of FFXIII's "villains" were nothing more but generic NPCs with unique names and unique designs.

EDIT: Actually, I believe I misunderstood what you just said here. :P

How many stars are you getting now and are you struggling to stay alive?

I beat it once when I was doing all the missions but I forgot my strategy. Right now I'm stacking Witch's Bracelets on the characters.

If you slow both of them then stick with Rav-Rav-Rav to stagger them quickly, it shouldn't be that hard, especially if you have a maxed crystarium.

I guess that's probably what you've been doing though. Can't remember any in-depth strategies right now. I didn't have too much trouble with a maxed crystarium and crap accessories. Just need the right paradigms.

Finally I got the final boss.

How fucking cheap is instadeath in a game where party leader death means game over. I had that bastard instagib my party leader 4 times in a row goddamn.

Anyways I'll see to tackling more content... What is the best choice for upgrade farming, gold or materials?

Well I got every accessory and tried to do every weapon (after making an extra save) but I just didn't have the gil or resources to upgrade everything and buy adamantites and perovskites, nor did I have an extra Dark Matter for one of Snow's upgrades and only one Scarletite. I'll just have to look at what I need before I attempt it again.

Yup, yup... welcome to FFXIII's end game content. Gil farming.

If only I could transfer the gil from FFVII...

Honestly the post game bullshit made me initially hate the game more than I actually do. I already had problems with it but the stupid economic system and how you're pretty much limited to killing giant turtles over and over for months just to get money and a super rare drop to make ultimate weapons just pushed the game off the highest cliff.

I really do like the game, the battle system, visuals, polish, music, art direction, and so on are enough for me to like it but the story, characters, economy, and general post-game crap keep it from achieving the heights it easily could have.

If you're not having fun with it anymore, then you should stop :/. Having to farm money for the end game missions sucked, but I took the bullet and farmed for a week. If you ask me, it was worth it since the last couple of missions were amazing to max out (both rank and time-wise).

I had so much fun with FFXIII.

Nah I mean, I've been playing RPG's ever since Dragon Warrior on NES so grinding doesn't really bother me. Plus I've put so much effort and time into getting all the trophies so there's no way I'm stopping here :lol

I hope I'm not the only one who hated X-2 and XII and liked XIII more than these 2. :P

I wasn't going to get this game, but since amazon made it available for $18, it was an offer i couldn't resist. Now i hope that the game doesn't end up being as bad as some people make out.

I beat this whole game using just one class, warrior or fighter or something, pounding X the entire game.

Bullshit.

You know what's bullshit too? the fucking final boss "1 hit KO" whe you're kicking his fuking ass.

I just knocked out all of my perkovsites accessories/weapons yesterday. Working on Scarletite now. The Sacrifices in Orphan's cradle drop those and perfumes so farming those for awhile should be nice.

Yeah, I call bullshit on it also. The game was "press X to win", but you still had to occasionally use your paradigm shift.

Is there a good printable weapon upgrade chart, complete with the exp. needed for each upgrade as well as catalysts? I've found several upgrade lists but they're way too long/convoluted to print.

You will, once we wipe out the rest of your ilk.

Goddamn, XII is glorious. A shame they didn't let the director fulfill his vision. I blame Wada for Vaan and Penelo.

I've been using this. It doesn't show XP needed but shows how many levels each one is, so you should be able to guesstimate off of that. There are tips of maxing out the multipliers for the cheapest amount, etc.

Looks like XIII is the game most gaffers regret buying according to lawblob's thread. I feel like I'm in such a minority. :lol

I loved the game.

Hey you tagged quote me! How orginal! Coming from someone who likes FFVIII, that honestly hurts.

It must be nice to live in that crazyland of yours, where your opinion is the universal truth.

It is. You should try it some time. It's fun. No more bad games and you get to call me leader. It's also a world where you don't have to put imo after everything because it's understood and people aren't so serious. It's a pretty chill place.

Technically you'd be the leader and the slave, as you're all alone there. Somehow the idea makes me smile.

So I'm giving up on this.

Farming CP and gil was repetitive but the idea of tackling the difficult hunts was enough to overcome it.

Until I hit the trap brick wall.

I need dark matter and traps and screw it - I've killed god knows how many turtles with the catalog yet nothing besides the ingots.

Officially waiting for FFXV now =/

Jesus, it's really not that hard to get traps.

The fastest way to get traps if you're not getting drops from the turtles is to fully upgrade Nirvana and Kain and dismantle them. Then you'll have 6 traps.

As for dark matter, these drops like candy. Which catalog did you have? Have both a maxed out collector's catalog and a connesseirs catalog. It also helps if you 5 star the Shao fights.

I need to get at least one trap to do that...
