Well, got it off of GMG after all. With the voucher code and my credit it was just too cheap to not get it.

The e-mail gave me a code and a link to a preorder website. There I had to put in my e-mail address: "We will send you an email before the Early Access period starts with all the required steps to download the game and set everything up in time."

"Please keep your pre-order code safe until further instructions are provided via email on how to redeem it."

So as of now there is not yet a place to enter the code I bought?

That's where you'll be putting the code, when they open it you'll be noticed to it via email so hang tight til then~ :3

At the end of V1.0 I had a full set of Heavy Darklight (tanking set) thanks to winning /randoms basically. So when I logged on my character again 2 weeks ago and saw the new stats for all my gear, and after seeing how all my triple+ melds pieces were worthless I had a look at my 2 neglected jobs, WAR and PLD, although very well geared with DL and Garuda and thought, I never liked to tank on either FFXI and V1.0, but since I have such good ARR "starting" gear for them why not use them?

So on a fresh character I've made, I started levelling MRD and GLD, and after managing to get MRD to 31 and GLD to 22, after just tanking dungeons these past weekends, I've found my new love for tanking, although being a Damage Dealer at heart which won't hesitate to change the moment Dark Knight is added, but in the meantime I'll focus on developing my tanking skills for phase 4.

Also, there is this little pleasure when you as a tank and the healer just let a dps die. That dps who would always attack a mob that is not the one I'm focusing on, and even when he is told to attack the same mob and leave the others asleep he won't listen, indeed such a pleasure.

The only dungeon where people bother to say a single word was copperbell, people don't start chatting unless they absolutely have to (people doing things wrong), which makes some of the runs a bit boring, it may as well spawn a bot to fill the slots :P With cross servers feature I don't think I'll ever meet some of them again either.

I only had time to run two dungeons this weekend. The first dungeon, people were fairly talkative and it was fun. The second dungeon, people were so quiet except on bosses when we had to discuss a brief strategy. They were friendly, but just not super talkative for large portions of the dungeon. I realize it's hard to talk while tanking probably, but a quick reply wouldn't be too much. D;

I really do wish we had the ability to add people from other servers to our friends list and chat with them as well. I'd *LOVE* to be able to make friends on other servers and do dungeons with them (after first meeting in the Duty Finder).

Doesn't help a lot of my friends are going to their own servers, it would be nice to have 'em on my friendlist at least so we can talk in-game... :(

This is the thing that disappoints me most about FFXIV, and the solution to it is really quite simple.

Guild Wars 2 offers extensive cross-realm play. You not only can dungeon with players on other servers, but you can "guest" onto their realm and play with them in the open world, too. Your friends list is cross-realm, and you're able to whisper players and mail items regardless of what server they're playing on. Now you can even gift items through the Gem Store. You're pretty much able to do everything, down to PvP and Guild Missions with anybody. The only limitation is World versus World for obvious reasons.

A large factor that allows the game to do all of this is because Guild Wars 2 requires that each character name, regardless of server, be unique. I am the only Phineas Poe of all of Guild Wars 2, but in FFXIV I'm perhaps one of several---just the only on Ultros. I doubt this is the only reason their system doesn't allow such extensive cross-realm content and functionality, but it does play a relatively significant part---and I imagine it is too late in the game's development to improve cross-realm features.

I still am curious how the Duty Finder is going to handle same-named characters.

Oh yeah, definitely. Some of my friends will, unfortunately, be on different servers. I'd love to be able to talk to them in game and invite them for a quick dungeon or something. Would be fantastic.

Yea they really should add that feature, I'd like to chat with my friends from different servers on the same channel too.

That will probably solve the dilemma I currently have of which server to play on, because I have friends across 2 servers, I kind of don't want to start 2 characters if I can avoid it.

Is the final game going to have some journal/diary/datalog of sort? The story is a complete mess and I don't understand what the fuck is going on nor who the fuck are all these characters introduced every second.

Also, which are the cutscenes that in the final game are going to be voiced?
Really? I feel this is the first jrpg I've played since ffxii where I felt the story was pretty easy to follow.

I think the duty finder still needs more testing before phase 4, turn the servers back on SE.

Did all 3 dungeons today (some reruns), we died a few times at copperbell since I'm not entirely sure what I was suppose to do at the boss and being careless, at the end the boss was pretty straight forward, we died a few times using the wrong strategy.

party/dungeon/fates should really allow voice chat on PS3 at least.
im amazingly fast with the keyboard but it is just too much extra to worry about in chaos.

Here's a question. Everytime I switched from my archer to by craffting/gathering class, I lost all my clothes. So when I went back to the archer I had to re-equip everything. I could see this getting really annoying in the full game.

is there a way to somehow "save" your equipment for different jobs?

I definitely found it easy to follow, but I'm also not someone who is jumping into a story halfway.
I love having played 1.0 to have a lot of background on many of the NPCs that show up. I don't think it'd be necessarily any harder to follow had I not played it (since you don't really need their background to understand what has happened thus far) but I certainly don't know!

Did they mention toning down the actions or are they just adding the option to turn them off?

It's way too flashy, to the point that I can't even tell what's going on in parties. Especially since fights are more group based instead of focused on one mob like I'm used to in FFXI.

I don't remember the name of it but you can save armor "sets" in your character profile window. And yes, this is a great feature that any MMO should have. Saves you time and headache. Just be sure to update often.

Yeah, it's pretty annoying. Even with almost all the options turned off, i keep getting the screen filled with shit.

They definitely need to tweak the DF, the official forum has a lot of great ideas for it.

Add an option to prioritize player from your server, stop warping players as soon you finish a Boss Fight (Ifrit), add a re-try option so you can replay with the same party, etc. Hopefully they'll implement some of them in the next phase.

Yeah, when you have your character window open, above your equipment is a gear list option where you can save your equipment loadouts. Yoshi does this in the duty finder video.

yeah on the character info there should be an area to the top right called gear set list.
You can set gear sets there.

Yep, once you progress the story a bit, you can make use of the Gear Set feature in the character window. It allows you to save complete gear sets, update them when getting new pieces of gear, AND you can drag the various class/job icons down on your bars. So you can just click on the "WHM" button on your bars and it'd change all your gear/weapons to that job/class. It's incredibly handy. I was switching back and forth between my White Mage and Pugilist with just a click of one button.

Yeah, prioritizing (or having an option) it to find people from your server first would be cool because it'd be a great way to meet new people (and become friends with them). Retrying and going into a different dungeon with them would also be great.

I remember Yoshida mentioning something about it in one of the past Live Letters. Hopefully it ends up being an option you can toggle and not forced on everyone. I love the effects.

There was an option in the PC version that let you tailor spell effects based on who's they were. The options were Self:All/Some/None and they had these options for other players and NPCs. So you can set it to show only your spell effects and nobody else. I have wanted an option like this in WoW forever since it often became impossible to see bad stuff on the ground with too many spell effects on the boss.

I spent 3-4 hours playing this game for the first time last night. I haven't been so hooked on a game since WoW was new and fresh. I don't know if its the music (which is wonderful) or the graphics/art/ animations (which are fantastic) or the gameplay (which feels great). Either way, I absolutely love it. I decided that I'll be getting the game on ps4 though, because I'd like to be able to ultimately play it on my vita... Hopefully it comes out on ps4 close to ps4 launch date!

How many here were playing the PS3 version? If so, whats your thoughts on the controls. It took me a while to get the hang of it back when Phase 3 started but now i got down pat. Just need to get use to switching Hotbars.

I gotten used to it. I really like the hotbar and switching is pretty easy since you can just press R1 to toggle through the hotbars. I like using select the switch between the different UI's and really after fumbling around for a bit, I have become accustomed to it.

The only thing I'm not used to is chatting since I don't have a keyboard but that's about it.

Here's a picture of how Yenniav ended up looking at the end of this phase 3 weekend.

It kinda sucks that you only start getting "tanking" looking gear till level 30+.

Targeting enemies in a group with the controller is really the big issue..

The targeting system tweaks within the character config is weird and confusing but messing around with it yesterday helped out quite a bit for me to easily get my targets i want. Also another thing i noticed is that if a Tank or someone in the party puts a mark on the mob, when you go to target an enemy it will auto target the creature or NPC with the mark over its head at least it does for me.

Have they said anything about the start of phase 4 and how that will work to carry over into the release version? My wife and I played it for the first time in phase 3 and got pretty absorbed in it this weekend, then we remembered we were just going to lose it all. Haha.

It's a huge improvement over the last time we played, which was at the beginning of 1.0. We quit before they put up the pay wall though. We weren't going to pay for a broken game, so I guess we don't qualify as legacy, but oddly enough, our 1.0 characters were still there. It's weird that we're in this nebulous non-legacy but still 1.0 group, and it's hard to find information that's pertinent to us.

I haven't seen any date planned yet for Beta phase 4 but i would imagine it will be soon after Phase 3 is finished, since i heard that there is going to be a 5th test for Phase 3. So maybe a week or 2 weeks after Phase 3 is finished since there is only a month a few weeks before launch.

Now as for the stuff that carries over from the open beta. I'm not sure on that aspect, someone in chat yesterday stated that only the look of your character that you save while creating your toon will carry over.

You get the most tank looking armor at 25, its called Heavy Iron or something
looks like that but with

and the helmet feet are part of the torso and leggings.

Very tank-looking armor, but I didn't really like the look. I felt like my char was stuck in a tin can, which is probably for the best in a tanking situation.

I'm very happy with the controls on PS3. It feels nice, and honestly it plays better than any single player jrpg that comes to mind. The crossbar feels very natural, and with a compact wireless keyboard everything just feels right.

Here's the keyboard I got, it works perfectly for this IMO:
Anker Ultra Slim Bluetooth Keyboard

Issues:
The only way I've found to reliably switch between targets when in a party or otherwise surrounded by NPC/PCs (like in a FATE) is to use Tab on the keyboard - which doesn't exactly feel intuitive.

The HUD is too packed, and combined with how flashy the actions are it makes things look a lot more hectic than they need to. With an option to change the size and opacity of UI elements individually I think it could end up working out well though.

Here's how I have my PS3 UI set:

If I could make the crossbar smaller and only appear when I'm holding the button, and add a bit of opacity to some elements (compass, duty list, and chat)...that'd look pretty nice I think.

So upon looking at some of the other classes and seeing what skills i can carry over to my CNJ class. I guess i will be doing Thaumaturge so i can get Surecast and swiftcast skills to have on my main, along with Lancer for Blood for Blood skill.

I realize it's hard to talk while tanking probably, but a quick reply wouldn't be too much. D;

Consider also the fact many players have a pad in their hands and no keyboad connected. Just like me... the very silent type because of this, lol!

Very nice setup you got there man. For me, it took me a while to get use to targeting my party since i play a healer and i always will be a healer until i figured out that pressing Up or Down on the directional pad targets my party members. Now i can heal with EASE on the PS3 controller.

Even using a keyboard, you're very busy as a tank trying to keep hate on several creatures. It's a bit more lax against solo targets or if you have a really good party, but tanks seem to have a ton to balance when it comes to this game.

They sell it at Quarymill I think.

I got it at Vesper Bay.

Okay i have a question Gaf members who play an Archer class. Do you have a problem with Kitting? like with the enemies resetting? The reason i ask is cause my roommate plays one and he was having issues with kitting a mob and it resetting on him. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
