This game is really really bad. I'm trying to like it but it's hard. I'm not sure how it's possible for anyone to play this game on a gamepad. It's so clunky. Especially the targeting. Keyboard or bust.

Only thing positive I can say about this game so far is one of the better crystal theme songs in the FF franchise.

If you're used to playing everything with your mouse I can see how you might feel this way but it felt alright to me. The fact that the GCD is so long means you can be pretty efficient with either control scheme I feel.

This game is seriously great on a controller.

So much better to have my hands not sitting on a desk and in my lap.

I can't get use to it personally. It just feels so awkward cycling through so many abilities on a gamepad and then the clunky targeting right behind it. Sometimes it feels like a chore just to target NPCs in a town to get a quest. Really bad when you have about 50 players standing on the NPC.

What would be the best melee class for someone who hasn't played FFXI or XIV before?

Trying to decide between Gladiator, Marauder or Lancer. Or perhaps even Archer if I decide to go ranged.

Well, most zones are entirely now, but some are re-used from original FFXIV. So there's some inconsistency there.

Also, texture density and resolution seems to be all over the place. You get the feeling the 512 MB of RAM on PS3 is going to be a big problem later on, much as the PS2's limitations caused issues for FFXI.

They have already spoken about releasing high-resolution textures when the DirectX11/PS4 version arrives.

Correct. Next weekend Legacy GAF will depart for Sargatanas. It's up to new players on who they want to play with.

On one hand. A fresh brand new experience alongside with others inexperienced.

On the other hand, play with those that are experienced with a very consistent tight knit community that's survived 1.x. We can make things for you and even give a helping hand.

The problem is that everyone on the Legacy servers is level-capped, many of them on all available jobs in 1.0. Most of them have tens of millions of gils and the economy is a wreck because of it.

I'm sorry, there are good reasons for veterans to return to a Legacy server with the friends they already made, but new players and people who truly want a fresh start with what is almost literally an entirely new game should be rolling on one of the new servers, where they can build a new community and start from the beginning with everyone else.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Squenix should have reset everyone down to level 1 and instead given Legacy players carrying characters over special items and XP boosts to level faster, instead of just copying their maxed out characters over as-is. This is basically a new game, they should have done a New Game+ on Legacy characters.

And why do you care that we get to keep our characters, levels and items? If you are so bothered by it just get on a new server. That way our characters and items won't have any effect on you.

Love what they've done to the game. I thought 1.0 was near unplayable. Can I just resub to this when it's up or are they going to make me buy the game again? I bought the collector's edition of the first one.

Economy was given a small reset with the gil reduction however. And no at the Legacy reset .... We were the ones that are kept things going. It's the very least they could do.

Love it so far, I still think there are too many starting quests just inside the cities. Such a strange way to start your adventure.

They want you to walk around the cities and get familiar with where stuff is.

But it's a new game! It's as if they let you keep your maxed EQ character in EQ2. Or in any other MMO that had a sequel. It just doesn't make that much sense. I understand not wanting to lose the time you invested, but the Legacy servers are going to be so broken because everyone just solo one-shots their way through the new story and ignores all non-story quests since they are level-capped!

edit: Nevermind. I forgot they have implemented Level Sync in this game.

If you already bought the original version, you're good to go. Believe you even get another 30 days free. They would have be nuts to expect people to buy it a second time.

I don't see any issue with joining a Legacy server. I think it shows who's already dedicated in the long haul of things when we start seeing the new people get to end game. Does it suck? Sure. If you don't like it, join a fresh server. You'll always have those who level faster and get to end game first no matter what.

As for the economy that's still up in the air. With the reduction of money for the Legacy people, that still doesn't stop them from abusing crafted items to place up on the AH to sell. Who knows. GAF seems (from the few times I've seen in linkshell chat) a little divided about it (at least with the new players). But hey, you have a choice of where to go. No sense in making an argument but at the same time, us new players are just curious about how Legacy servers will work.

Other than that, me, Tera and Yoruichi are blowing up instances. Though the next one (Coppermines) will put us to the test. Tera being our healer of just a cure and being a Thur. Could get dicey in there but we'll see!

And...? Who gives a shit? That's their problem, not yours. Worrying about what they're doing with their old characters is silly.

asking again:

what race is best for lightning/fire? I chose the cat lady, was that a wise choice?

I don´t know well enough which race is best for conjurer class I believe it´s called

Race isn't a big game changer of what class you pick. Only minor differences are resists (from what I've seen) so go with your favorite race :)

What happens if I buy the original game now? lol There's a copy of two laying around at a local KMart.

Tsk tsk

To qualify for a legacy account you must have subscribed for at least 90 days before June 30th 2012, 2012. As a result this means that it is no longer possible to qualify for legacy status. If you qualify for legacy status you will know about it via a logo in the character select screen.

If you buy now, you won't be carried over to 2.0 (you will need to buy it again?). Or so it seems.

Looks I'm gonna play this Phase casually, really put only 1-2 hours into it

I'm getting the CE for PS3, so it's not that much of a burden

I understand the fighting mechanics, gonna explore more, rather than level up even though characters get wiped

I don't wan to burn myself out so quickly lol

Back to Demon's Soul Holy Trinity Platinum I go, wanna finish that shit ASAP!

wow so ive played a couple of hours tonight, and im really liking what ive seen so far and im really not an mmo fan, maybe its just the ff atmosphere?

I'll continue playing it and see what i think by the end. could be the first mmo i've paid for...

I am loving this game again, but I am getting tired of the pointless cleaning quest.

Instead of having like 5 short quest to get lvl 5 gear, they should do one long quest that gives you a set of armor. Or at least more variety on the quests.

Blackmage comes from Thurmatage. Races don't really mean allll that much

I would really like to start over fresh but unfortunately SE won't tie things like the Goobbue mount and other unobtainable items (like event gear) to accounts or else I would. For me it's not so much the event gear but rather the Goobbue mount I don't wanna give up.

It's a wonderful selling point for staying on Legacy.

Got to play for a couple hours so far, it's running even better than phase 2 and I'm liking that we can choose from over 3 classes now.

They've changed the map though, and for the worse overall . You used to be able to select the map and scroll it while moving, but for some reason you can now only interact with the map while you're stationary.

This is only a problem with gamepad controls, but I prefer not having to use the mouse to scroll the map when moving.

Anything I can do to use the gamepad with the map while moving? Any settings to change or a different button combo?

Not sure what gamepad you have, but on the 360 controller you just push x and then move like normal. You don't have to be stationary.

Also for anyone with a nostromo and controller you can only use one. The other you have to disable, or it doesn't recognize your nostromo. Only a problem if you wanted to use your Nostromo exclusively or switch between the two. If you have the 360 plugged in and not disabled your Nostromo is worthless.

Attempting to use the 360 controller for NPC/PC/Enemy targeting really does emphasize just how bad that d-pad is xD

Or for using anything on the LT/RT + D-pad skill list.

So these are my pros and cons after this weekend:

+ Great combat system. (Love the way your skills work together
+ Amazing music (some of the most enjoyable music to grind too I have ever heard.
+ Nice graphics (pc)
+ Depth of class variations.

- Clunky menu system
- Horrible map
- Lack of vo in cutscenes.
- Quest system seems dated.

All i all it seems like a good MMO. With a good guild there should be tons of great hours in this one.
I am still on the fence.

I tried to get into the 1st instance but it bugged out(chasing shadows). The damned thing just wouldn't start if more than 1 people tried to access it. Then we formed a line and I waited about an hour then when it was finally my turn I almost got in but it froze at the loading screen...

Tsk tsk

The Legacy Account is what gets you the special lower monthly rate and Chocobo. Anyone who already owned 14 will be able to use their old key, not just those who paid for at least 90 days.*
