Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward |OT| The Midas Touch

Trailer was hype. New dungeons look fun apart from super creepy dolls.

I think 2 dungeons per patch really hurts the game. When it was 3 I found myself still playing a bunch when they got old when grinding for tomes but with 2 I feel I get burnt out much quicker. It's either this one or that one and one always seems to show up more than the other but when the other one shows up it's not that much of a change because it's the only other one to do.

3.2 patch trailer looks sexy. They've always had a really good formula for these. Drown us with amazing Soken music while showing all the pretty things. I have a static now so... I guess I'll be running Midas!

It honestly feels like it's designed so that Diadem (and Alexander to an extent) should be taking a third dungeon's spot for tome grinding but it obviously didn't go that way when Diadem died prematurely in 3.1. Hopefully they can strike a better balance in the future because having only two dungeons sucks when all you're realistically doing is ex roulette because nobody runs the rest of the content. Capping through a variety of things is much more interesting as far as repetition is concerned.

If you really like doing dungeons and nothing else though it sucks either way I guess.

Does the trailer have spoilers? I'm only lvl 15, so I don't want anything spoiled.
It does have a bunch of spoilers, though none of them will make much sense to you if you're level 15.

Very cool trailer but I won't let myself get carried away into the hype until I play the content myself. It looks like a great time to go back to the game. I've already picked up my time card to enjoy the new content. Anti tower looks great but those dolls will give me nightmares. Sephirot looks gigantic! Oh man, that is going to be a fun fight. I like the new hairstyles but I wonder which will fit my Fem Elezen best. Midas looks more innovative than Gordias.. from what I saw. I won't be able to do the mentor stuff cause I'm lazy to get a tank to 60 but everything else looks pretty cool.

@zomba13 I highly agree about the 2 dungeon patch thing.

Awesome trailer. Nice Megazord there.

And WTF are those creepy dolls D:

Ever play FFIV? "Let's take their heads! Yeah! A present for Golbez!"

EDIT: Time to play catch up again. I've gotta get to that second area of Alexander if only to fight the robots.

I like the way the trailer moves from the Anti-tower with its chandeliers and frog bosses and creepy dolls and all that good stuff to Lost City looking pretty much the bloody same.

It's been four to six months since we cleared the place out in the game timeline. What do you expect to have changed?

Oh, right, I had completely forgotten that boss! It's even creepier now lol

Haukke Manor changed out its lightbulbs in even less time than that! Where's my purple filter?!

In all seriousness, some hard modes seem to have more drastic changes than others, and from (what little was in the trailer, I'll admit) it kind of looks like Lost City is more of a Copperbell than a Brayflox.

Is it not possible to add friends to ones game/account through Lodestone?

PS: Just subscribed for one more month, and I will have a lot of time to develop my character, so I am also looking for fellow GAF friends.

...I don't think so? The game doesn't have much in the way of external management of character stuff. I think at most you can do is check your retainers on the web?

Saw the trailer...

EVERY TIME I GET OUT THEY PULL ME BACK IN I NEED MY HIT

Wanted to turn off the trailer though on the part in Midas where I saw every was tethered to a bomb. That's gonna be a shit show.

Anyone catch the cat walking around in that one Midas battle. It was the damn cat all along!!

Also, trailer accurately shows which song will be playing in GAF house 24/7.

Plenty of people will be running Alexander Midas and Sephirot at launch of the patch. You can also get tomes via PvP, other roulettes, and other options as well. It's not like they're forcing you to only run dungeons. Diadem changes should be coming soon as well, so there are multiple avenues to cap tomes.

I felt the same way about Lost City, but at least we get to fight a statue? That's... kind of something?

I, for one, welcome our new papaya masters.

Also reddit is speculating that MCH/BRD also have Leviathan themed gear and that tanks have Ifrit and healers have Shiva as well. Rip.

Eh, Lost City had the music, the introduction of those great slightly-morose face ghosts, and Diabolos was an interesting boss when not everyone just brute forced it (and when you did the doors because pugs are terrible at everything). I'm just hoping there's a few more twists than 'there's a statue now'.

Shrug. Maybe. I think the statue looks kind of cool and looks like it may have a self rez ability, which could be interesting. I'm more hyped for Gorilla AOE circles in Midas. I don't really know why they turn you into an ape, but I'm strangely okay with it.

In general I think the Midas bosses look slightly less terrible than Gordias, but they're all rather similar to stuff we've seen before in Gordias, which is disappointing to a degree. Still, giant Allthoughts is pretty damn funny, and it should mean the end of the Illuminati side of the Alexander story, so we can actually focus on the primal itself for the final tier.

Calcabrina can go die in a fire. I'm not surprised that they made a more terrifying version of that boss, but I am very uncomfortable with it. It's so creepy...

I thought Lost City was interesting because it was contrasting the city being overrun by voidsent and being all dark and stuff with its lower floors where the corruption never got to, showing what the city looked like in its original state.

Doesn't beat rad upside down castle, but still.

Really enjoyed the trailer. I think I'll be enjoying everything in this patch, my only wish was for more Diadem adjustments/additional content to come in so it won't be such a giant slog for materia, since we'll be melding so much more of it. I hope that doesn't make or break the patch for people.

I'm particularly excited for Midas. That first boss has a very WoW feel to it for me, and it's the kind of thing that makes me okay with having Goblins as one of the antagonistic forces inside the raid. Make them do zany, crazy shit, that looks silly but is also downright threatening to the player mechanics wise. I like the idea of A5 (which seems to be the different robots) being a boss rush type thing where you fight different robots with different mechanics.

A6 seems to be the head honcho of the Goblin faction, and then we end Midas with a giant combining robot battle in the core of Alexander. Sounds real good to me.

Lost City is such a nicely designed dungeon that I won't complain if it's too samey. Hopefully the final boss doesn't require as much coordination as Diablos at first because I don't trust DF folks much. Calbrena boss needs to be extra creepy and have the creepy music for those who didn't get to experience it in FF4. This is also your cue to go play it.

The Midas bosses actually look interesting, as opposed to the first part of Alex where the only interesting fight was Pepsiman (until he breaks your will and you don't want to go on anymore like Newton)

Yeah with that multi-tiered arena, dare I hope that instead of the standard 3 phase battle they've broken it up into 3 sub bosses, and after you beat the first two you can just skip to the last one for the rest of the lockout??

Nah, first two are probably just trash.

The way it looked in the trailer is that
A5 is the double-Faust plus the hulky Goblin.
A6 is probably the elemental robots that are fought on subsequent platforms in the dark blue room.
A7 is Quickthinx "Ernst Stavro Blofeld, author of all your pain" Allthoughts on his gobwalker and his cat
A8 is the Golion, obviously, although it's weird how it's composed of droids from A6 so possibly Golion is A7 and Allthoughts is A8.

And I'm super pleased with how eikonic gear turned out because that Shiva set was amazing but I don't like casters and Leviathan set was also pretty great but I don't like NIN all that much.
Now I get them for classes I actually play!

Looks like a patch people will sub for a month for and then quit. :p

Hopefully the story content is more extensive than what we got in 3.1. Looking forward to that first week or so of blowing through new stuff, though.

I wish the Orchestrion wasn't limited to housing furniture. On high-pop servers like Gilgamesh, because the housing system straight up sucks, the majority of players won't be able to take advantage of this, and I've never felt like my free company's house is in any way "mine". So this is really only reaching a small audience until they add in public housing or Ishgard housing whenever they stop making excuses for that.

Basically, we already have minor control over what music plays like being able to toggle on/off mount music, they should have implemented a portable music player item.

I wasn't saying anything different and was responding to the "only 2 dungeons suck" comment so I'm not sure why I'm being quoted like I'm complaining. There is plenty of stuff to do at launch and their intent has been to add diverse sources for tomestones. A lot of the content they released -especially in 3.1, and especially Diadem- had no lasting value for most people though, which is why I'm hopeful it will balance out nicely. I can however understand why a lot of people feel dungeon burnout right now.

I honestly don't get why you split my post to make a point.

Midas looks like it could be interesting, but then again if you showed me the Manipulator dropping into an arena I'd probably think he looked cool at first too.

In other news, the Limit Break penalty change in 3.2 is a new flavor which lets double-caster groups keep their comp. You're penalized for duplicating jobs still, but beyond that this is just them forcing the 2/2/4 comp for LB purposes. No more lumping physical and magical ranged together and demanding you pick two.
