any time you spend (even time logged out) in your inn room (unlocked via a quest at about level 10 or 11 I think) grants you resting bonus that provides +50% xp from killing mobs/crafting/gathering. I log off in my room every night, and if you don't get on every day, or do something other than level up when you are logged on, it starts to add up.

Even at level 42 I have more than a full level worth of bonus which means I could easily hit level 44 or 45 tonight with 90 minutes or so of doing leves (unless I run out of bonus in which case I would probably do some quests).

Oh my god I need this quest, how do I unlock it?! Do you need to do each cities quest to get each inn?

You just need to complete the first of your starting nations main quests and then just talk to any Inn NPC and it should have a quest. The quest takes 'maybe' a minute, the quests are by far the quickest quests in the game.

This is gonna sound like a noob question but what is the /command to search for a specific person?

So I can see if anyone is on to give me a pearl later :p

Its not there :(, it sounds like they were hoping to have it in by now but if it doesn't make it in by the end of 1.23, it will be in on day 1 for 2.0. There was a comment from a rep about it a couple weeks ago.

Having said that you can add a pearl holder to your friend-list even when they are not on and through it you can tell when they are online.

Got half-way to 22 tonight. I'm retiring at the inn and not logging back in until after work tomorrow...Hopefully I'll have a nice build of rested exp to screw around with!

Got official dev acknowledgement in the thread I made awhile back regarding caravan exploitation.

Hey guys!

I wanted to let you know that when 2.0 arrives the caravan defense system will be changed drastically and a countermeasure to prevent this type of behavior will be implemented.
Drastic changes, hm? I think it would be kind of cool to have chocobos pulling a covered wagon filled with cargo that maybe gets progressively more damaged if it's attacked. Maybe make the tactics rely more on covering all angles of the caravan instead of watching spawn points.

Those times are not going to work for me being EST, haha. Anyone else able to help?

Stay up late! Only the dedicated deserve a pearl. . . Or seek:

Ravidrath Astolph, Jinko Jinko, Rin Morikaze, Nagisa Kamiya, Kyudo Kyohon, Vice Winter.

These folks are on during various times of the day.

We know Behest is getting drastic changes as well and its due to the new content finder system. My guess is escort caravan is going to get balanced around 8 person party for lvl 45+ (or whatever the levels will be in 2.0) and be instanced and be done whenever you want rather then at specific times, due to the instanced nature, they can better define the limitations for the party and if someone just heads to the front they probably disconnect or won't be able to, and you also don't need to worry about world competition in an instanced capacity so people won't sabotage runs either for a different ls group (like was specifically mentioned in the JP rep post).

I like that they're doing that, honestly. Though I think it's a great opportunity to make these events more cinematic and fun. When you have an enclosed environment where you can manipulate what happens and pull strings easier without interaction from the 'outside world', you need to take advantage of that.

I would be glad if Behest and Caravan were instanced personally, it would make it more fun to group up and do content with strangers and actually work as a team, plus they could do a lot more with it in an instance setting.

I'm sure most of the cry babies on the forums will complain about another thing being instanced though lol.

I did a Behest yesterday (is that the caravan stuff at the camps?). It was incredibly underwhelming...A high level BLM joined and nuked everything, so I got almost no experience. Lame.

Interview translated from connecton by Rein on the offcial forums (some good info in here)

New Screenshots (The one from E3) the warrior CG is imaging the powerfulness. Dalamud gives you a feel of it's purpose as a bridge to rebirth.

The quality 15% up was said by Mr. Hashimoto Yoshihisa "It's going to increase so don't say it's complete!"

There are higher Coeurl 'Ancient Coeurl'

The NPC's in class guild will be wearing gear which will make adventurers want to wear it one day and dream about it and work on raising the character... that's the true image.

What's the name for 2.0's development engine? -> Didn't even think about it. Should request for a name (laugh)

Current the max can display up to 40 players at same time.

In 2.0 you can feel the liveliness. Like having a Miqo'te sleeping on the beach.

In 2.0's dungeon including leveling dungeons will be based on gimmicks. You have to do something to advance, and have mid boss... something like that.

FF3's Crystal Tower you couldn't save so maybe in 14 make it where you can't return (laugh)

For dungeon aside from Crystal Tower there is one more which the name wasn't released yet. This one also gives feel from previous FF series.

For above dungeon it's something that will updated throughout the year. It won't end with one release.

Content will change a lot. Can level to level 5 0in short time and can challenge in obtaining much harder items and once you can deal high DPS challenge in a high rank content... that's the flow they are thinking.

Raising Chocobo is in a way end content. Can raise tank style and after sorcerer style... The plan is that you will be able to obtain different Chocobo gear and make it where you can upgrade as a buddy.

Party is made of 4 players Light Party, 8 player Full Party, and maximum 3 party alliance. In one instance battle max is 24 players.

Player will be able to adjust the setting of how much players to display. Don't want situation where you can't see party members when you're in full alliance or when taking a big group photo and not being able to see some people.

Screenshots are basically advertisements movement from the players. Having few people in it is a minus for players that never played and looking at the SS.

There isn't much content that's going to be transferred directly but for CC and AV it will remain as is.

For primal battles they are related to the 7th Umbral Era so for those remaining the style will change. Along with new main story there will be ones that will come up.

PvP can be challenged 24 hours. There are Colosseum and Front Line for this.

For Colosseum it's made for casual, you can use content finder to create a match and fight.

For Front line there are 3 bases and in middle of the battle field there is one free castle, the forces from the 3 bases will try to take this place over.

3 forces = Grand Company?

You can change the company but there will be demerit where you lose your rank and such.

Within grand company preparing a system where players company becomes the official army

Have plans for giving titles to top teams. Calculated over some time and grouping will change.

There are many methods to calculate for ranking, free company point system (Crafter makes stuff and sell, once sold point increases, or increases when completing 7-8 quests and such)

For Free Company you don't have to be same members of the grand company, however in PvP this will be separated.

In 2.0 making adjustment where adventurers ability and gear's strength is about half and half (?)

CP(Crafter Point) will be introduced. Crafter uses CP to use actions. You will be challenging against the recipe's quality with it. Same type of system will be implemented for Gatherer you use abilities within the available points and try to obtain rare materials.

From the monster images we released Teacher Typhon (Dunno that NM name in English... the purple guy from FFVI...JP is Tupone) is getting lots of attention from players overseas as well.

Jump is controlled and making adjustments so it doesn't become action game.

In Character making you can change the background, or can see images with sample gear equipped.

For current characters you will be able to change the characters race, gender, parts once.

After 2.0 start update is being planned to come in big waves.

Main features that will be added through updates will mainly be PvP, Housing, and Dungeon

For housing at first you can buy the land and build a house on it. Later will add more contents for the yard.

AV and CC is normal difficulty which you can challenge at level 50. True Garuda is harder content.

For Delivery Moogle, planning to put them in safe place such as settlements. Item deliveryes are delivered real time and once you check the mail box icon you can see whats inside.

In 2.0 the Equipment will be separated from Inventory

For the timing in the game where 2.0 starts for some it may feel like some time passed but some may say it's this short?

In 1.23, a and b we will deliver the end of the world "Will go that far (laugh)"

In 1.23 planning the timing for a and b's release will be 1 month

In 1.23 a battle awaits players which is definitely like FF series battle

You can fight this boss at timing of 1.23

Got teary looking at the grand finale material. Since it started out bad there are parts you miss.

After the grand finale might do a poll to see to keep the server running with a condition where you can't save the data?

For the nightmare event is done by person in charge of contents and is idea from someone playing FFXIV a lot. He's also in charge of side quest with Hildebrand

Just saying out of thin air but Hildebrand is fighting his own way through the major disaster (laugh)

In 1.22b cut scene's Hildebrand's new scene made me laugh (YoshiP)

Looking forward to 1.23 last battle (?).

I'm scared about re-making my character. I REALLY like how King Lala looks, I think it's perfect, and I'm usually super picky about my characters. I'm worried that if I roll with the same stats his look might change a bit in 2.0.

A lot of great information in that interview. Getting really hyped for this again!

I like where they are heading with the dungeon design and it sounds much more exciting than instances where you just run around and kill stuff. I would love to see some hardcore dungeon mechanics like Crystal Tower not allowing "Return", but they would probably have to reserve mechanics like this for "Hard" or "Extreme" modes. There would be too many tears.

It sounds like they may not raise the cap at launch and leveling is still going to be pretty fast. As grindy and difficult as it was to level in FFXI in its infancy, it was something that I really enjoyed and made a lot of friends and memories along the way. I hope this doesn't turn into another solo MMO where you only do content with other people at end game.

PVP sounds like it could be a lot of fun and the 3 factions are almost guaranteed to be the three different grand companies. I assumed the Coliseum would be 1v1 content but it sounds like a lot of players can participate. I wonder what the player and level caps will be for these events.

The comment about not much content being transferred directly pretty much confirms my belief that 2.0 is essentially a new game from the ground up.

So I've been getting more and more curious about this game lately, reading up the dev blogs and it seems like the new team has been doing great things. Is this game worth getting into now?

I'd be in it for the long haul, 2.0 really looks cool but I would like to see the game before the big switch. How playable is the game in it's current state?

Its kinda what I always assumed since almost all the new quests and instances (including primals) are directly related to the umbral era story line, all those quests need to be rewritten and mechanics changed to fit in whatever capacity they are needed for 2.0. More surprised he said AV is going to stay largely the same as that was one of the instances I was expecting to change some since the reason you are even in AV is directly related to the umbral era stuff. CC is pretty stand alone though, not surprised that one is going in almost as is.

As for the comment about leveling, several other interviews said that the 'pace' he wants people to be introduced to the content is as followed: Solo/learn the game to lvl 10, level to 20 largely by yourself while also getting introduced to light party content (Small dungeons, behest etc.), mid levels more group oriented content opens up (Dungeons, caravan, behest, whatever else they have up their sleeve) and so on and so on till lvl 45+ where end game content begins to open up and the games systems are largely group oriented. Basically he wants introduce the content at a very deliberate pace where a person can go from solo to party only content by endgame and not feel completely lost. It just slowly becomes more group oriented and you don't just land into group content at lvl 50.

What are the odds of Square offering a disc version of 2.0 once its out? Would gladly pay for it if that's what it took.

Getting the feeling that it might be better to wait for the PS3 version, if it ever comes, to avoid the massive download. Trying (postponing in the end) to redownload The Secret World has shown me how much I dislike digital dowloads on my current connection (patching is something else unless I have to patch everything in the client (why I haven't reinstalled Lord of the Rings Online)). Or digital downloads for anything that is above 5gb. I can at least do that over night while everyone is sleeping.

Being back to this game all this new stuff they have added over the last 1.5 years are quite overwhelming. I want to gear up but I'm not sure how to go on about it, most of my gear is outdated by quite a lot (even say dated in the name)

Anyone got any tips on how to gear up, I'm aware of grand companies, looks like it's going to take awhile to gather 25k seals for the good weapons though.
I see a lot of people with a really big bow, sort of looks like it is made of horns and metals, where is this bow from?

Also I wouldn't mind a pearl ingame if there is room :)

1.23 is the last patch before 2.0? I didn't realize it was so close. So 1.23a in July, then I guess 1.23b in August, and 2.0 in September? How is 2.0 beta going to work anyhow? Do all current ffxiv players get in or is it only legacy status folks? All the changes sound glorious and I can really see a lot of people coming back for 2.0.

Coming back and playing over the past couple days has been awesome and so much has changed for the better. It's crazy for me to think about how disappointed I was with the game back in 2010, only to be playing it again in 2012 and having a completely different experience. It's not something I would have really believed back then, but the hard work the dev team has put into this game, having not given up and just making the game better with each new patch, and being open with their player base about what is going on in development just puts a lot of faith in me that the future of this game will be just as fantastic as ffxi has been.

Everyone in Red Dot Zero has been awesome as well, and I'm glad I made the decision to play again on Sargatanas.

I just started back up.

1) Play on Sargatanas with the rest of us.

2) Pick the race you like the look of and ignore stats.

3) Add Krystal Elora to your friends list so we can party together. :3

4) Don't let yourself get overwhelmed. Pick a class (Disciple of War or Magic) you're interested in and level it for a while. Ignore crafting until you have a grasp of the core mechanics (leves, party, chains, etc).

5) Learn to use market ward searching. SO useful for gear hunting.

6) A retainer is your personal storage bitch. Use him/her as such - it's also how you put your stuff out for sale, but I use mine as a storage chest for now.

7) The UI is very flexible - spend some time arranging things how you like.

8) I'm going to try this tonight...Some people say a gamepad is how FFXIV is meant to be played. I cannot confirm/deny this yet.

9) Accept the fact that the targeting system is absolutely the shittiest thing ever.

That's all I've got for now, haha.

Sounds good, I'll be on in a couple hours when this is done downloading!

Can someone explain to me the legacy thing? Is it more than just a discount on the monthly fee?

I should still be ok for that if I get a 90 day subscription correct?

1.23 at the end of July and between that and 2.0 is patch 1.23a and 1.23b etc. (The letter updates are separate from the pure numerical updates). Beta 'eventually' is going be open, and legacy status will not be involved in the selection process.

First there will be an Alpha sometime at the end of September which is being designed to stress test the new server architecture. My guess is 1-2 new 2.0 only servers and they will try to squeeze just about anyone on to the servers during this time and it might be given mainly to active players (so they know people will actually download/participate in the stress test despite how limited the playing period will be). After that comes beta/open beta/end of the world. Where the games moves into open beta/PS3 beta and 1.0 servers go offline till the release candidate 2.0 client is ready to be released.

From more recent interviews Yoshida is still contemplating the timing of the old world server shutdown and when it happens during the beta phase. On top of this today we discovered he is contemplating keeping up the old servers up during beta but after a certain 'cut off point' your character's data will no longer be saved to transfer over to 2.0. Its mainly a nostalgia trip/keeping in constant contact with friends while they work on porting over your character to 2.0 servers/client including all your items, levels, gil and quests completed and achievements.

Sounds good, I'll be on in a couple hours when this is done downloading!

Cut off point for new buyers was last month, and cut off point for registered players that have yet to pay a monthly fee is this weekend. You get 30 day 'free trial' when you register the game and you need to pay for 90 days to get legacy status. Since you can't officially get charged till the free trial is up, anyone that bought the game after May 31st and registered there copy can't get legacy status anymore :(

Legacy status does 3 things 1) It gives you a special permanent discount on the game at the 'maximum' feature setting when 2.0 goes live. This setting is 8 characters/per world and 40 characters total for 9.99, a 5 dollar monthly discount as this feature set will be 14.99 in 2.0. Normal setting will be 12.99 and you get 8 character slots but only one per world. In this game you really don't need more then 1 character as you can level any class/job to max level and lose nothing. Its mainly there for those that want to make a bunch of roleplaying characters or make it easier for people to make a new character on a different race when/if new ones come out in later expansions.

2) It gives you a special aesthetic chocobo skin when 2.0 launches

3) gives you the option to have your characters name in the credits.

Don't fret too much though, it sounds like a similar bonus 'might' be coming when the game launches if you end up buying/pre-ordering the PS3 version (Yoshida mentioned how the legacy system is unfair for those that wanted to play 1.0 but couldn't since they had to wait till 2.0 release) if that goes through remains to be seen though so I would personally not count on it for now. The legacy system is there to give a bonus to players that helped fund the game in its 'horrific' stage before 2.0, and you won't get much benefit from the discount unless you play 2.0 for 10 months or more anyways.

nicoga3000

You should be able to get Legacy if you set your subscription to 90 day now, no?

And JoeFenix, send me a whisper as soon as your on. I'm heading home for an evening of FFXIV!

Finished the first Dragoon quest and finally able to become a Dragoon. Any reason to level Pugilist past 15 in terms of skills usable for Dragoons? I don't see anything worthwhile to use past the Blindside skill.

No. Blindside and featherfoot (of course alongside the skill that cures you) is all you need. If you want get Hawk's Eye Archer skill. Is useful for Chaos Spike if your acc sucks.

So i just got done updating the game, It's asking me for my SquareEnix account name and password aswell as some kind of authenticator code (seems optional).

Anyway, I've tried everything and I just can't get my login to work.... My details are correct, I can login to the account on the SquareEnix website no problem. Anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?

did you add/register FFXIV as a service through your square-enix account already?

edit: I think you do this by logging into your s-e account (https://secure.square-enix.com/), going to "Select Service", picking FF XIV, then clicking "Add Service Account". If you've already done that I'm not sure...

Got in the game, LOL framerate on my rig. First game to get such a poor framerate on my gtx 690 haha!

Not a very good first impression, gonna turn down AA and AO, hopefuly that helps!

Edit: Now the game hard locked my computer, said it couldn't detect directX hardware or something.... jesus christ!

Turn AO off. It hardly does anything and the framerate hit is incredible. Turn General Drawing Quality to 8 (Standard). If you set it to 9 or 10, you are actually Supersampling and just as with The Witcher 2 you will kill the framerate. MSAA has limited effects on this game, due to the fact there are a LOT of shitty quality alpha textures everywhere, so leave MSAA around 8x and enable Transparency Supersampling instead.
