Ok, got the game running at 60 fps now but it crashed when I tabbed out of it...

How do I message a friend in this?

Haha that tabbing thing is frustrating as others have said play in windows mode and it won't crash, there are various programs around that will force the window to fit full screen which help with this.

Message one of the Officers to RDZ and get a link pearl we can help you out and answer questions you might have.

Where can I find out who the officers are? Everyone is antisocial in this game haha, no one says a word!

so I've been using the FFXIVWindower program that centers the window correctly, but it recently stopped working. Has anyone else run into this and know how to fix it?

The game is constantly crashing for me now, getting a direct x device cannot be found error.

What a shame, I was starting to get a bit more into it...

To quote myself - the issue seems to have been because I was launching the game through steam. Oh well, I guess I can live without my Steam friends knowing what I'm playing!

What OS, specs, settings are you running?

Windows 7 64 bit
I7 3770k 4.5 ghz
EVGA GTX 690
16 gb Corsair Vengeance 1600 mhz ram

I think I fixed the issue by disabling DOF. Seems to be ok now, I'm really blown away by how lifeless the game feels though, literally no one interacts with you on any level.

It seems like unless you already know people playing, it's pretty much impossible to actually meet people in game.

Interaction is...Hard to come by. I imagine at higher levels its a bit better? I hope?

I also would guess that 2.0 will bring a LOT of players back. I'm on now for a bit if you want to party up, though.

Turn UAC off in windows settings, if Direct X takes control away from FFXIV it will crash.

Whats your name in game, If your on I'll get you into the linkshell, all MMO's are antisocial to start with aren't they ?

As I said before you won't last 2 weeks in this game if you don't have a good Linkshell.

Is there a free trial download (client) available like the 14 day free trial for FFXI? Id like to check it out, but I really dont want to pay to simply give it a whirl (no, not even 10 bucks)

I'm seeing conflicting reports on this; can someone clarify? Will the Gobbue mount be unobtainable come patch 1.23 or 2.0? If it's come 1.23, when will it hit? I've just ordered a new PC, as I couldn't play the game before. I'll get it in two weeks. How long will I have to get to level 30 and get the mount?

It will end with patch 1.23a, which should be out shortly following 1.23 (which is out at the end of july).

Nope no free trial, there will be one in 2.0, or maybe you can hope to get in the 2.0 beta test.

Thanks for the tip! I'll take everything you can give. :)

Can't wait to play, really.

Yeah, I didn't know this and it would have gotten me a lot more exp if I did XD Basically just always exit the game in your inn and when you come back you get 50% bonus exp. The longer you're in your inn (offline or online) means more bonus exp.

Soken (one of the sound team guys working on FFXIV 2.0) just wrote on twitter that the teaser site is due 'soon'. I questioned him about it as his wording of soon is well, soon to the point that it could/should be tonight. He replied with "I wonder.."

No doubt it'll be a countdown of some sort perhaps leading up to this weekends Japan Expo in Paris. (9:30PM JST).

Yeah, I was quite lucky when my PC died that I had saved at an inn. When I got back up and running I had enough rested EXP bonuses to carry me all the way from 25 - 31. Made it very quick!

Countdown to a countdown no doubt.

But I guess I have to log off for several hours for the bonus to take effect, right? I mean, if I can log off and log in immediately and still get the bonus, it would sorta break the game.

It doesn't actually have anything to do with logging off, it's all about the amount of time you spend in the inn room. You could remain logged in and still get the bonus if you wanted to.

There's no limit? That's pretty awesome...I've got my character logged off since Saturday. I should have 2 full days of rested exp which should really help push me to 30 soon!

There is a limit - I think it i supposed to take about a week of resting in the inn for it to get maxed out.

Oh damn, that's pretty excellent. I won't feel bad not playing for a few days when I'm busy! I've already maxed my leves from when I stopped playing months ago. Anima is my only real hurdle, but I've still got like 86 of that.

Anima is definitely my biggest hurdle at the moment, but I read recently about how you can do something with Hamlets to get anima back. Could anyone explain how that works?

Deliver items in supply phase for points and anima back.

Do Hamlet and get Anima back, 40k+ points is 100 anima.

Deliver items in supply phase for points and anima back.

Do Hamlet and get Anima back, 40k+ points is 100 anima.

With further clarification, 10 'gathering' supply point items = 4 anima, 10 HQ gathering items = 6 anima; You can't mix and match, it must be 10 of 1 item, can't even mix HQ and NQ of the same item. 1 Crafted Supply item = 4 anima, +1 = 6. Also if you turn in something at the beginning of the supply phase you get an automatic 100 anima if you are the first to turn in one of the items.

What level is this stuff at??

lvl 40+ for Hamlet items in the respective craft/gathering class. For gathering classes though the higher the level, the better as the item is considered a 'rare' drop, so the more stats you have in finding a specific item in the approach phase the better. I used to level my BSM (Before it got lvl 50) on militia swords from lvl 45-50. Gathering is definitely best if you want to get stuff for automatic anima though, also if you do high level caravan escort you can usually get 10 of one type of hamlet gathering items per win, which gives you 4 anima upon turn in.

So once I hit 40+ on a gathering/crafting class, I can start doing these for anima?

You can start as soon as lvl 38 actually, it just won't be nearly as efficient till lvl 45+ when you got access to better equipment. The gathering items come from specific grade 5 nodes so at lvl 38 you can level off them while also trying to get gathering/supply items. There are two new items at these specific spots, 1 hamlet crafting material and 1 hamlet gathering material. Mining is in the Nanawa Mines, Botanist is at Nine Ivies near the main camp, and fishing is at Bald Knoll if I remember correctly. Outside of the provisioning materials you mostly get 'mid range' gathering items. Stuff like Iron Ore and Silver Ore, and nothing like say electrum, mythril or cobalt ore (from a miners perspective).

Ah OK. Thanks!

Question about gathering/crafting...Is it worth leveling now or better to wait until I hit max on my main DoW?

Gathering classes are extremely useful for both straight money and also for easier time leveling a crafting class. I never need to worry about gil these days even if I start running low, a quick 1-2 hour mining session (alongside my lvl 50 BSM) can net me the right raw resources to sell on the market pretty damn quickly especially after people have started working on AF weapons. Even stuff like iron ore which sells very little on its own can net you quite a nice quick profit, most items can be sold for profit from gathering, some more so then others but you won't go home empty handed if you are diligent about selling stuff.

imo level gathering classes off and on while leveling a combat class. Its a simple time waster that will benefit you more in the future, especially if you take a craft. In fact make sure you take a 'complimentary' craft if you take up gathering so you can use misc. material that may not sell for much but might make a good leveling material. Mining I find has the most straight forward observational benefit since more classes get the benefit from the resource, and in a lot cases only from that resource. GSM, BSM, ARM all directly benefit from mining, and one integral material for leather is also gained from mining (Alumen).

Thanks for all the info Allard. I've been having a hard time leveling my BTN/WVR combo. I find both pretty tedious, and so far I would just rather get levels in THM or do quests. Maybe once I have less to do I'll work on gathering more? I also feel like I should have done something else (MIN and goldsmithing maybe?) as WVR doesn't seem to make very much good stuff.

Level a DoL as soon as you can really, its the best source of gil especially later on. (its extremely tedious though)

Is this most easily done via leves? I remember back when the game came out you did leves and then used "tree finder" or whatever to find resource points...Same process now?

Botanist is imo the worst of the gathering classes to level for 'useful' purpose other then if you are planning to be a carpenter or culinary. The only use you get from weaver is some raw stuff in harvesting and almost all of those can be obtained more easily by killing the right monsters. It is a complimentary gathering class to weaver, but like leatherworker the real complimentary class is a combat class. I started leveling botanist mainly for the lvl 25 ability because EXP pace is murder at certain levels and any help I could get was needed, now I use it constantly on my Carpenter but till I did that I got little to no use out of it. It sounds like with housing botanist should be a lot more useful then (Tend gardens, getting raw wood for houses and furniture), but right now? Its really only useful for a couple classes.

Its always 'better' to do it by leves, but some leve ranges benefit from it more then others. The grade of the nodes directly affect your EXP and the higher you get the less EXP from that node grade, the problem is you don't get the next grade seeker ability till every '8th' level (lvl 8, lvl 18, lvl 28, lvl 38) but you get a new leve range every 5th level (5, 15, 25, 35) so that means there is a good 3 levels where the only way to competently hit the highest grade node for maximum EXP is through leves. Then at the later levels that EXP bonus at the end is going to be your main source of EXP. Leveling gathering classes is not a linear experience, its a fluctuating curve, a curve that drives off the deep end toward the end when you find you don't have grade 6 nodes to use XD. The final 3-4 levels of a gathering class is just murderously tedious. Thankfully I actually need some items so I was just leveling it up slowly while getting stuff for my BSM and GSM.

Basically other then EXP bonus change on leves (which make a world of difference) and 1.5* the original EXP per success, there hasn't been anything changed to gathering since the launch. It sounds like the mechanics of gathering (and hopefully how it levels) is changing in 2.0, but if you want to level it now, there is no doubt, it is tedious, which is why I suggested leveling up a crafting class along with it, at least then you can feel like you are getting something more from it other then just leveling it up to get money later.

Yeah you've definitely articulated what I was feeling. I think I'll switch to Mining if I go down the gathering route later on.

It seems famitsu has a staff interview this week. In this a new element called cross hot bar refers to the new UI for ps3.

http://andriasang.com/con1s9/ffxiv_ps3_new_interface/

Surprised how long it took for Famitsu to jump into the interview train, its been a month now, wonder if besides the interview we might be getting some new 2.0 previews, especially with the 'demonstration' for 2.0 happening this weekend in Paris, and maybe the famitsu info might finally foretell the website going live this week XD. Last time the original FFXIV site went live with new info was when Famitsu was covering concepts and art work for the game.

Still waiting for the furage guy to pop with new information. It would seem that this has taken place recently given only a handful of people were at E3 (from their development team).

Soken is still being cryptic about the launch of the teaser site, granted he's not permitted to talk too much but his wording for soon is no escape to SE's understanding of time.
