New producer letter up.

Nothing really new other then no delays currently for 1.23, its still expected to launch at the end of the month. Its mainly a talk from his own perspective of Anime Expo gathering in Paris and he just paraphrased what they talked about (Of which we know was nothing new really). There is a snazzy concept photo they showed at the expo for Hyur and Miqote race only gear though!

Same old same. Nothing new.

They asked about the things being added to the game inspired by older games like the crystal tower and a casino in the future (Yoshida reffered to Gold Saucer specifically) And then they were concerned about 14 having it's own identity if it's just a mish mash of things from previous games.

They asked if more magic classes will be added like a red mage or summoner "No comment" followed by laughing.

DO you have a subs target etc....

They asked about vanafest but he didn't go this year but he hopes 14 could someday have something similar.

I sadly may not be playing regularly for a while because some jackass broke into my house yesterday and stole my laptop (there's a thread about that in OT so I'm not gonna derail this one). Not quitting but I won't be on a lot until I get a replacement.

I'll try to get on to drop the Zero pearl for new players to get those spots though.

Those skirmish weapons are nice, PGL/MNK didn't get screwed for once.

I want to start playing again, but Dragon's Dogma is so freaking good. And there's no retarded "play this class you hate or you're fucked on *insert endgame content here* lol" in that game either.

I started playing the game. I haven't played much yet, but I like it. However, I am getting a nasty bug that plagued the original release two years ago. After playing for about 30-45 minutes, the game crashes and I get the message "unable to detect directx device, please restart the game". I went on the Microsoft website and installed the latest DirectX9.0c release, but I again got the message after a crash. Google keeps giving me threads that are dated as far back as september of 2010. I have reduced the quality of the graphics, but it did not help. I do have the latest Nvivia drivers for my GTX 670. How do I stop this from happening? It's extremely frustrating.

edit: christ, now the game crashed after five minutes. Ugh.

Worst case scenario, as you're aware, there's a new engine coming up in a few months which hopefully will fix the crashing (and support alt+tab properly).

Couple of quick questions.

I'm trying to play as much as I am able, which isn't much to be honest but I definitely wanted to get that Goobbue mount before it goes away. Is that happening at 2.0 or is 1.23 taking it out?

Also, I had some weird nightmare in my room. Is that a quest or just foreshadowing the end of version 1.0?

Finally. I've been trying for ages to get an invite to the LS on Sargatanas, can someone hook me up?

The Goobbue disappears after 1.23a, the first lettered update following 1.23. You should have no problem getting to 30 before then if you can put in even just a couple hours per week.

The nightmare isn't a quest, it's like you said, foreshadowing (sorta). It will make more sense if you do more of the story.

Yeah I"m like level 20 Lancer now, so I hope by the end of the month I'll have it. Thanks for the response =)

also, regarding the nightmare, that dude's armor was great. Reminded me of one of the judges from XII

Greetings!

To enhance communication with players from around the world, we will be adding a good deal of words to the auto-translate dictionary in patch 1.23!

The list is quite large, but to give you a few examples:

• Goobbue
• Caravan
• Caravan Defense
• Tank
• Healer
• Home point
• Area
• Boss
• Dalamud
• Journal
• Solo
• Leader

…and many, many more.
Megaton. Now I don't have to shout for {Chocobo} {Protect} anymore. Hopefully them adding Dalamud is telling of it's prominence in 1.23

Meika! Looks like I ended up missing you for now. Ill be back in a few. . . @ Bostons right now.

If not, try looking for Ravirath Astolph, Rin Morikaze, Kyudo Kyohon, or Nagisa Kamiya.

Still can't figure out where to start the chocobo quest. Any good guides? Eorzeapedia just says to do the recruit quests for each Grand Company. Are those the "Regional" leves?

Also, I've asked this before but am narrowing down my secondary job options. I'm definitely going DRG, MNK, or WAR for DD but will also have a good support for LS events and such, which will be either BLM or BRD. Does Gaf need one over the other? Are we lacking tanks, healing, anything in particular?

Are any of the classes worth it in endgame? Or are the only good endgame choices, the classic jobs?

Press the Start button in windows, type UAC and change it to Never Notify, FFXIV can't handle when windows takes control of the graphics card and the main culprit is UAC

There is no actual Chocobo quest you have to buy a key item from one of the GC vendors and then go speak to the Chocobo master.

A friend and I are probably hoping back into this game for serious in a week or so. Any news on when 2.0 hits and some of the core changes we should know about since we played back when the game first came out

It has been turned off since I started playing. I have heard though, on the FFXIV forums, that the culprit may be Ambiant Occlusion, so I turned it off. I'll play the game today and come back here to report its effect.

I wouldn't expect 2.0 until the end of the year or possibly next year. The target is to have the Alpha client out in September and the beta client out in "Winter". Winter opens a time frame of December through March, so draw your conclusions from that. It would take me a while to cover the changes here but if you go to the official forums you can review all the patch notes.

Some of the bigger things I can think of....

The addition of the Job system for more defined roles in combat and the battle system has been completely overhauled. It's much closer to FFXI combat now with auto attack.

The introduction of Grand Companies (this primarily drives quest and game progression now).

The addition of experience points chains (like in FFXI) and rested experience (an experience points bonus granted for logging out in an inn).

Market Ward improvements such as a search that allows you to buy directly from the search results, areas that allow you buy items from vendors and wards in other cities, and retainers no longer resetting.

Crafting has been streamlined by improving recipes and reducing the amount of keystrokes to craft items. Repairs have been simplified along with item wear being greatly reduced and NPCs can now repair all items up to 99%.

Materia system was added for enhancing weapons and armor.

Traveling has been improved with the addition of Chocobos, Airships, and adjustments to the Anima and teleportation system.

A lot of new content such as Hamlet Defense, Primal Battles, Caravan Escort, Dungeons, NMs, etc. I covered most of the new content additions in a post earlier in this thread.

Edit: Here

No, GC are located in the same menu that allows you to go to "Market Wards" and other places in each city, you probably know what I'm talking about even with my shitty explanation. In that menu you can be teleported to each GC headquarter located in each city (in Limsa Lomnisa is called "Maesltrom command" for example). There you should find your firsts GC quests. Prepare a bunch of anima, btw.

I don't think GAF particularly needs a specific job, although Jinko and Rain will know better. I think that beacuse quite a bunch of players leveled several jobs. I'd say don't worry about it anyway, just get the job you want to play

Are any of the classes worth it in endgame? Or are the only good endgame choices, the classic jobs?

I think I'm missing the meaning of the question. But if you're referring if classes are preferred to jobs in any endgame content I would say: NO. Most pt setups and strategies have in mind jobs.

Our next major status update on Final Fantasy XIV's 2.0 reboot will come in mid August, producer and director Naoki Yoshida revealed in an interview with Dengeki PlayStation this week.

That may seem like a long wait, but Yoshida assured that once the information starts rolling out, Square Enix will be doing weekly updates.

The start of updates will lead to the game's alpha, and then beta test. Around the time of the alpha, Yoshida hopes to release a benchmark program.

2.0 will offer better initial pacing than the original FFXIV, promised Yoshida. When you first access the game, you'll enter into a tutorial. This will guide you through the game, with the adventure gradually expanding before you.

The reboot also promises to offer a greater sense of "Final Fantasy," something Yoshida said PS3 owners should look forward to. This includes things like Crystal Tower, which gets its name from Final Fantasy III, and the dragon knight design which looks like Final Fantasy IV's Kain. The staff is being careful to preserve the Final Fantasy series image, said Yoshida.

Visuals are getting a major revamp for 2.0. From the planning stages, that team has put effort into real time shadows and lighting. Dengeki was apparently shown the game running on a non-gaming notebook PC, which allowed Yoshida to assure that the PS3 version would look pretty much the same.

If Yoshida's recent comments in one of the two French interviews is prophetic, expect gamescon in Germany to be the place the campaign will start. I don't expect "0" new 2.0 info and screens before this big marketing campaign, just not nearly enough appease our appetite till then.

Gamescom is August 15 to 19 I think. Not too much of a wait given 1.23 should drop at the end of July.

I'm currently level 11 and feel lost and confused. I've done leves and story quests and I have this Oblivion feeling of the enemies getting stronger than me as I level up. I still have the equipment I started the game with, but I don't know where I should buy equipment. There is some in the Drowned Wench but everything costs so much; I can't really equip myself the way I want to. What should I do? This is the first time I'm playing an MMO and right now I'm thinking of quitting. I'm not really having fun. I've searched Google for guides and walkthroughs but didn't find anything satisfactory. Help me, Gaf.

Head to the Adventurers Guild and grab some new gear from the shops with stars next to them?

For new gear go to your nearest main city and enter the market ward (you can find markers for it on your map and doesn't matter which ward you enter) then when you get in there run to the very end of the corridor (either end will do) until a menu pops up. From that menu go to item search then browse the gear/weapons through their relevant ward title (for weapons it's battlecraft and for armor at your level your best bet is lower tailors).

You won't be able to afford everything you want but at the very least you could get a new and improved weapon and some body gear, which should tie you over till you do some more leves and earn more money.

Also a lot of early level gear can be earned for free by completing quests around the city.

As a beginner you want to do some leves for leveling and money, do some quests for items and experience and then when you find yourself around level 20+ you should start some of the main storyline quests which eventually earn you a ton of starter cash.
Alternatively if you want to earn money (or craft your own gear) you can start a Discipline of the Land/Hand class and go mining/fishing/chopping wood. I started out this way and mined copper+tin ore to make copper ingots which can be turned into a lot of beginner weapons and gear.

I'm guna be a bit irritated if they only allow access to Alpha for those who attend these events, they should have let players with Legacy status to be first to try out the Alpha, especially considering as current players know what to expect and what new features will exist.

Have you joined the Gaf linkshell, many of us could make you starter gear for nothing and its a good place to ask questions, as I said before new players won't last 2 weeks in this game without a good Linkshell.

I'm not on Sargantanas; I regret not choosing this server, in hindsight. But what's a linkshell, anyway?

Its not going to be just people who attend events I can assure you that. Alpha is a stress test for the new server architecture and nothing much more so they needs lots of people for that. If anything the only people who are likely to be allowed in the Alpha are current players as they won't want to send invites out to a shitty stress test and piss away any good will they might have had trying to get people to return. We all know players treat MMO betas/tests as glorified demos of the launch games, would be a really, really bad idea to invite potential returning players or new ones to something that is almost guaranteed to break, I mean that's the purpose of the test, to break the servers.

I'm not to worried about beta access really, you get in or you don't, but when they decide to shut the servers down for 1.0 you can bet they are going to invite just about every active FFXIV player to the beta then or risk losing attentiveness momentum. Think the only spot in beta that won't be opened up to the larger beta pool is the PS3 one and Yoshida said that previous beta sign ups for the PS3 release will still be honored unless that has changed.

Linkshell is a guild/chat channel.

You should probably consider remaking your character on Sargatanas.

Allard you are far too optimistic about the Alpha/Beta test, I can only hope you are right, but somehow I don't think its going to work like that.

I guess I should. Do I have to delete my current character to do so? And will I be able to pick the same name?

They also got officially updated on the new teaser site too. Looks like SE sent them out in a general press kit as gamewatch got the same stuff too.

I know its the same person that did the art in this game but the new Race armor really reminds of FFXII main character art, specifically Vaan (FF Tactics Advanced II Vaan) for male Miqote and Ashe for female Hyur (Or hell, the female Miqote one reminds me of her too with the shorter skirt).
