The quest design in ARR is everything I didn't want it to be. Quantity over quality. Guildleves, basically. Can only hope this is just what the game is like for the first 10 or 20 levels.

I sincerely didn't expect nothing different for the first levels. But i'm looking forward to more interesting and original quests as well, in the more advanced levels.

The quests kind of remind me of how it was when you were a fledgling in XI. Everyone asks you to do random minor things at first, then suddenly you're thrown into the "end of the world if you don't save us plz" situation. I'm expecting them to follow a similar pattern.

I feel like I've already done like 30 quests and I'm only level 10 and just unlocked guildleves. And this is just one starting area. Kind of crazy in respect to XI or XIV. I couldn't tell you what happened/what was said in any of them (though I guess this is unfair because they literally ripped out the cutscenes for the more promising quests).

Crafting seems much more smooth and polished (like everything else in this game compared to 1.0). I don't quite see the complexity in it though. I really wish they would just have you combo synths and give you a momentum bonus like exp chains, but way more than just giving you exp.

I am not going to go into details but the non standard abilities when they show up greatly adds to the complexity and shows a lot of potential for the final system. Furthermore the resource pool is no longer static, requirements to complete items and the amount of durability you get for items go up as well (thus why gear has a more obvious tangible effect, you need better gear to get better results in less moves on the higher level synths). You won't see this in the first 10 levels.

For me the questing in much better than in 1.0, the major difference is that this time you are given a bread crumb trail to follow.

I did all the side quests in 1.0 and some of them were sleep enducingly boring and monotonous..... and don't even get me started on those repeatable fame quests in XI.

Yea had to delete my patch folder :p

So crafting leves suck now, the NPC doesn't give you the materials any more ... lol

Still not a big problem. Its still better than going without the leves. You were going to use your mats to grind anyway, at least with the leves you get bonus xp and some kind of material reward.

Depends what you make whilst grinding though doesn't it, I suppose its a matter of checking the leves before you start grinding though.

Plus 2 things, crafting is now much more of a money sink than it was in 1.0 and people with lots of gill can just buy items on the AH and hand them in for free XP.

I am enjoying the quests in ARR significantly more than those in XI or XIV. Once the cutscenes are finalized and added back in, along with additional quests and the main storyline quests, things will definitely be more interesting.

Speaking of quests, one thing that a lot of people may not realize is that they are not repeatable. I don't know if they plan to change that, but it essentially makes them more like true sidequests and not bread crumb leveling trails that you follow all the way to level cap. When the majority of the content is added (hamlets, caravans, escorts, grand companies, dungeons, and whatever else they have in store), there will be a lot more variety for the purposes of leveling your character.

I'm very impressed with everything except the combat changes. Tp that regenerates over time instead of as you AA is terrible idea and the GCD should be removed.

Seemed ok to me, CNJ is a bit on the slow side but LNC was quite fast paced I thought, unless that's what you mean :p

WoW/Tera/Aion players will look at this games battle system and think its quite slow, FFXI players will look at it being too fast and lacking depth, can't satisfy both sides sadly.

Yeah, I actually liked it for the most part. It lacks depth but what MMO battle system has depth on the first 20 levels? And suposedly the combat will change a lot on the beta. I like that melee don't have to stack TP while mages can bring pain since the first second.

I'm in between I feel as if its going to be this fast there needs to be skill based elements in it like Tera with active dodging blocking and having to physically aim your character. If it's going to be slower than I want a deeper more strategic combat system more similar to xi. I'm not a fan of how it is right now.

I think that's one of the biggest problems for the design team. Not just the combat but the whole game. If they keep the game more like XI and XIV 1.0, like the current players seem to want, they'll keep the current subscribers happy but won't bring in anybody else. If they make it more modern, they'll bring in newer players but the old players will probably leave the game.

I think making it more FFXI style would actually bring in newer players as well and not hinder it. The thing that kept FFXI going for these years despite it's flaws are it's combat system and job system. It seems with 2.0 we're getting that Final Fantasy job system again, and if they were to make it more like FFXI, it would be appealing as it wouldn't have the negative inconveniences it has.

I still haven't tried the combat system as I haven't gotten into the alpha, so I'll save my judgment for when I do. I admit, I'm certain I don't want real actiony gameplay in a Final Fantasy MMO. At least, not like TERA.

Been exploring like crazy and found a few bugs QA accepted my one report today and are planning to address it. Having alot of fun just putting things through their paces instead of actually playing lol.

Pretty sure exploring falls under the definition of playing :)

I've personally spent more time trying to survive exploring expeditions than I have playing actual content and I've had no regrets from doing so.

Bleh im not on moogle.

Yea exploring gets you in all sorts of trouble. (everything is aggressive past level 10 :p)

I got botanist to 18 for the stealth vs lv 30 monsters.. it helps a bit.. but a lot of the areas I want to explore more closely have higher level monsters than that lol

what does the stealth ability do and how long did it take you to get that to 18

Botanist gets stealth at lv 8, it makes you invisible to monsters lv 20 and below and slows your movement speed to walking pace. This lets you harvest next to aggressive monsters without being attacked. At lv 18, the ability gets a buff that increases its effectiveness to include monsters lv 30 and below.

It took a few hours to get to 18.. lots of harvesting since there are no fieldcraft leves in alpha..

I have an inventory full of faerie apples, sprigs of mint and tons of other material items.. makes me wish they had included cooking in this version

I've been just randomly sending my friends stacks of apples..

I definitely feel like 2.0 has a sense of exploration that was sorely missing from both 1.0 and even XI.

That's the main reason I stopped playing the alpha - there aren't that many places to go, and that's what I'm most interested in doing right now.

While the Crafting System seems like an overall huge improvement, I have to say...

...competing for Gathering Points is terrible. Whoever decided to include that should be fired.

It seems to have been buried since the site went live but there is a large post by Yoshida that talks about stuff that is changing in beta and that is one of the things mentioned (the post was made BEFORE Alpha started in Japan, its a known issue that Yoshida asks the testers to deal with for now lol). Each person will once again get their own 'instance' of the node and won't need to compete with others for it.

Just did Tam Tam was fairly enjoyable but very easy, I suppose its been toned down due to no tanks maybe, last boss was quite interesting and once they fix the loot window and add content finder its guna be sweet :D
