Finally got a chance to create a character in Lindblum. I saw Jinko Jinko in some camp around Gridania but I think he was afk/bazaaring so I couldn't ask for a shell

Edit: no longer need the needle

I ended up getting the donation version of the android eorzea clock. Leve timer get!! :lol

Yeah the leve timer. I'm probably going to pull my phone out to look at it and see how many hours are until another reset at work and co-workers are going to wonder what the hell I'm doing. Well, except for one co-worker who plays WoW, he'll know what the hell is up. :lol

It's Sankaku Complex so don't take them too seriously but I haven't seen all that many great reactions to the game here myself.

Just took a look at Amazon.co.jp and the CE seems to have 143 reviews averaging 1.5 stars. The normal version has 89 reviews with the same star average. For some reason the Amazon.com has the average at 2.5 stars for both the CE and standard versions. Though that could change and drop more as there are only a total of 91 reviews across both versions.

I have heard nothing but complaints about the game so far, it's widespread. My old linkshell is being flooded, literally overwhelmed, by people quitting FFXIV and either returning to or trying FFXI for the first time.

Yeah, there's something about this game that SERIOUSLY makes me want to play FF XI even though I didn't like it years ago. Maybe it's just the fact that FF XIV has a lot of potential, but it's stuff that I think will take years of patching/polishing to realize yet, so my brain is like, "You know, FF XI has had those years. I wonder how it turned out..."

At the moment, FFXIV is extremely similar to FFXI, but FFXI is a quarter of the price, has four expansion packs, five or six "DLC" packs (Abyssea, etc.), costs the same monthly fee, and has 8 years of fine tuning, a dedicated playerbase, and a bounty of online resources and mods.

Exactly. And I've heard they took steps to make the grind that originally turned me off to the game significantly less painful, which makes me want to check it out if only to play through the story quests.

A comment on http://ffxiv.yg.com/ says it's one of those random rewards from a leve, but i'm assuming there's also other ways to obtain/craft it.

Ooo I missed that. Thanks.
Based on the Repair mats, it sounds like an ARM synth if there is a recipe for it. I wonder how high of a synth it would be.

FF13-------> shitty reception/reviews
Famitsu gave it a 39/40, it has a 83% metacritic, and has sold over 5 million copies worldwide. Other studios would suck dick in a back alley for scores and sales like that.

Not gonna argue that.

Square seems to think they can launch this half-baked the way they did for XI and get away with slowly turning it into something awesome. I don't think the MMO market is nearly as forgiving as it was 8 years ago so I think their window of opportunity for fixing things and getting people, in all regions, to think more highly of the game is pretty small.

Has any alchemist made Rye Flower yet? I need some for cooking but every time I try to make it with alchemy it says something funny. Its a level 5 synth and I'm lvl 8 alch.

This is off of beyondvandiel:

"Training: Milling Training
Synthesis Support: Common Laboratory"

Get the buff from the alchemy guild for 200g, that should do it.

What does it say?

The game will alert you if you dont meet certain standards but some items are still possible without.

Man I need a new pickaxe, rank 7 just isn't cutting it anymore. Thing is, even though I can afford a new one I can't find anyone selling anywhere >:

Also, I was unaware you could get an Onion Knight armor set from faction leves. Getting all the pieces is now my priority :lol

Hmmm this might be it, I wonder if the repair NPC in LL will work, he gives common for all crafter and I guess that says I need common.

Is this a thing where some recipes require you to get common buff to be able to do the synth?

Says something like not appropriate something something something.

I want the body piece . We should set up a night where we all use our faction points and grind for the equipment in a large party. When you use your points you get the equip drop.

Yeah, obviously try the local camp first but I'd bet good money that you need the buff to get it done in either case. Hopefully, at least.

Long gone are the days when you can find yourself in the position Funcom did with Anarchy Online and turn it around. Release a game in a completely unplayable state and manage to turn the game around into something good. Not only that but actually manage to expand it with several expansions. That was still the worse launch for me.

No way could any company get away with that now. The game would be dead in two months. There are far to many games avaliable now. If one screws up people can just move on to another. Like said the window of opportunity is small. Combination of SE's lack of communication and the increasing frustration is going to have this whole thing end badly. Maybe they won't cancel the game but it's not going to be a success in the end and will limp along in subscriptions. At least it should. There are some hardcore SE/FF loyalist out there that are defending everything about this game, even the more obvious problems that everyone is experiencing so who knows.

Not gonna argue that.

Low by standards set by previous FF games. And Famitsu "reviews" are just paid advertisements.

Is there anything that I can do to disable the Windows key on my keyboard JUST for this game? I use it a lot on other games so Id rather not do the weird registry hacks and shit that get rid of it for good. Popping the keys off with a screwdriver isnt an option either.

Id rather not play Windowed but I might have to start. My controller took a shit during a leve last night and I quick went to the keyboard and the first key I touched was the Windows key. Crash. 11k + armor lost.

If you do a leve with a friend and end up crashing or d/c during it, your friend can complete the leve and then you can collect the full rewards at an aetheryte crystal. I was pleased when it happened to me.

Since he replied to a guy who claimed 83% as 'shitty'.. I still think his argument that it isn't is valid.

When you spend so long working on a game it is kind of a shitty return.

And yet its still a horrible game that kicks you in the balls every chance it gets.

I actually think the first 2 years of FF11 were the best.

Ive actually heard that some of the recent changes to FFXI kill it and it becomes even more of a grind fest than it already was. I know of 2 FFXI vets that are both feeling pretty meh towards it lately.

My favorite times in FFXI were PS2 launch, doing missions with friends, CoP stuff. ToAU was inconsistent though I did like Besieged and Assaults. WotG was shit. So much lost potential there.

The days when DRG doing Penta Thrust was god like damage...then the nerf came and it was the first time I quit the game. :lol

Ugh, R0'd during a leve. Such bullshit when you can't redo them and you're limited to 8.

You can, stop spreading false information.

For the last time. You can retry a leve when the next reset occurs. You can then exchange it immediately after completion for something new. It doesn't count against your new set of 8 because it doesn't stay in your journal like the ones you picked up and finished.

I think Londa meant the person who runs the site is posting that kind of story to drum up traffic, not that you run the site yourself. At least, I hope that's what she meant.

Can't believe they're (apparently) not going to do a small version update this week adding something simple like sort, Ward divisions, or fixing the party SP bug. They never do updates on Thur/Fri do they? It's like they just don't give a fuck.

Not true. It used to take months to get from level 1-75. You can now get 1-85 in TWO DAYS.

A lot of vets are butthurt over the fact that they had to grind and grind and grind to get all of their levels and gear and it's now being all replaced by better stuff that's 10x easier to get.

Thats probably not what he means. No one gives a shit if we can exchange it at the next reset. The whole point of wanting to be able to retry a leve is so we can complete it before the next reset so we can maximize our rewards/gil/sp/xp/guildmarks.

Point being, last night, I crashed during a leve because SE is somehow incapable of designing a game that still works when the Windows key is hit.
Because of this crash, I now I have one red X in my Journal telling me that I failed. I didnt fail but the game is counting it against me anyways and I lost all rewards. It also counts against my limit of 8.

Sure, tonight at 8:00est, I can trade it in and then re-do it but what good did that do me last night when I was doing leves?

I can do a leve and die 15 times and still not fail it as long as Im done in the 30 min limit. Do a leve but dc? Crash? Failed. Wait 36 hours.

From their description, it still sounded grindy. Neither complained about how easy it was to XP...just that the game had this whole different side to it now where you just wail on mobs non stop, open chests, keep wailing, and walk away 15 levels higher, 10 merits richer, and have some of the best gear in the game.

I've said this before to my friends in real life that I played FFXI with, even if FFXIV sucks I will still play it and just fish because FFXI was the best fishing game ever.

I assume you'd have to have a lot of knowledge and people willing to help you to make that happen though? I played last in the summer of 2009 and made it 50 in a few weeks, mostly with random parties, but can't imagine making it to 85 so easily. Has something changed?

OK, again, please read my post carefully. When you fail a leve, you will be allowed to retry (not re-picked up) it again after the next reset. It will no longer marked as failed. It will be as if you just picked it up but it doesn't count against you because you can exchange it immediately rather than staying greyed out. If you exchange it before you retry it, then you just missed out because the new one you exchanged it for is part of your new set.

EDIT:
Let me make this as clear as possible.
1. Fail leve.
2. Wait for reset.
3. Talk to the adventurer's guild NPC but don't trade it in.
4. Previously failed leve is now unmarked and available to retry at the camp.
5. Go to camp and complete leve as normal.
6. Return to adventurer's guild and you can immediately exchange that leve for a new one.

It's called Abyssea exp parties. You need the Abyssea expansion packs ($10 a pop) to access it. Everyone does it now, they've almost entirely replaced regular exp parties. They are time consuming, but the more you participate, the higher the exp rewards become.

You do have to luck out or know someone to get 1-85 in a few days. The thing about Abyssea is that you can take a level 1 character in the alliance with you and they can handle the opening of chests that pop from the monsters, letting the rest of the alliance focus on the monsters you're fighting. After a couple 7-8 hour long Abyssea parties (which aren't rare, i've heard of some alliances lasting over a day), your level 1 guy will be 85.
