Final Fantasy XV Demo Previews/Impressions Thread

Ign doesn't even know what they're saying.. You however do.

Good. So they're kinda following their usual tradition of how they do demos. Definitely along the lines of Xenogears, where they even broke the 4th wall with dialogue like "What are you doing here, you're not supposed to show up in the story until way later!" "Relax, this is just the demo, not the full game."

Final Fantasy XV is full of smart ideas, and although the tropes are all there—phoenix downs, gysahl greens, peppy victory music—it feels totally different than any Final Fantasy before it, more akin to Skyrim or Far Cry

Drat. If I wanted to play Far Cry or Skyrim, I'd play Far Cry or Skyrim. Heck, I hated Oblivion, so this does not bold well.

Tell me have you played Far Cry?

Cause I can tell you Far Cry isn't like Elder Scrolls

Nope, haven't played it. At the same time, I know that it's a completely different genre than Final Fantasy.

For example, if FFXV was announced to be a Dance Dance Revolution game, as a mainline title, I think everyone would understand why I'd complain about a possible genre shift.

Indeed , I believe they changed up the events a little bit.

Have to be honest, Type-0 HD looks fantastic on Vita.

Will also upload a short video of it soon.

The point I'm trying to make is that if a comparison is made to two games that are wildly different from each other structurally, it likely isn't relating to their mechanics.

It's weird how Kojima and Square are so alike.

Both became super famous in the PS1 era, and then both created a new IP in the PS2 era that was amazing, and then both had hated entries in the PS3 era, and now both are doing a new open world entry in their respective series that is extremely hyped by fans, while also reviving an IP that was in coma until now (SH, SaGa), and trying to keep their greedy bosses in check not by putting infinite DLCs in their games, but by using product placement (and overpriced demos).

They are also the only two to put a cannon game in their series in a handheld console (BBS/PW), and are known for trolling their fans, sometimes with good stuff, sometimes just mean trolling.

There's been some back and forth of influences between two of the most popular video game series for sure. Too bad a crossover is unlikely to happen, the respective universes are too distant from each other.

I still believe, however, some day.

This could possibly create the best game in existence.

Until then, I can only hope that Kojima will go crazy enough to do something like this =X

I wouldn't read much into it. They have cut out major story elements mostly from the demo. Imagine a previous FF game without any story elements...FF games are far more story driven than Elder Scrolls or Far Cry games. I don't think that has changed with this iteration. I think the mix could be exciting. This and Witcher 3 will be heavily story driven, cinematic open rpgs. That's potentially awesome.

Ah, don't take that comparison too serious. That's their way of saying it has a much more open world than FFs before with a lot of side content all around the map, seamless enemy encounters, etc.

Nomura leaving Square Enix - Starting a new career with Kojima :)

Imagine how crazy and convoluted a story written by Nomura and Kojima would be :D

Wouldn't remote play be a bad idea for such a high octane game like this?

Even the slightest lag would make a big difference.

Camera movement was making me feel nauseous...
Too bad no option to switch it off...

Also 20th March is pretty late for ffxv demo to redeem. Poor region 2 owners.

I have a bad feeling about this game. Like it doesn't have the FF charm and isn't very exciting to play. Moving from town to town was so good in the FF games. Here you're just roaming around.

Well, they don't have towns in the demo. It's unreasonable to judge moving from town to town when this demo has no towns.

Probably evokes Skyrim or Far Cry due to the sheer size of the areas that's unprecedented in a FF game.

Actual game will most definitely not be like Skyrim or Far Cry.

What are the odds that the final game has towns? As in what we used to have with side quests, etc. I guess I can't trust SE to do something anymore.

I would say there's about a 96.4% chance that there are towns in the game.

I really hope you don't think that the entire game is a huge open field.

I saw lots of discussion about the Coleman product placement. Let us not forget that time when Zidane and company chased after a magical Coca-Cola bottle.

Can't be worse than Phantasy Star.
In PSU, my room had a Fanta machine and a life sized statue of Colonel Sanders.
I also have the 7-Eleven uniform in PSO2.

So, what are the chances of Type-0 HD & FFXV: Episode Duscae being released on the Playstation Store in a timely manner on Tuesday? I'm going to have to wait until 10:00PM to play it, aren't I?

They have already shown two tons. One massive city which we don't know if we can explore, and one other city which we know we can explore. Honestly, the demo is just there to show the direction and mechanics. It is a tiny slice of what seems to be a massive game with some big cities.
