Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

It's actually surprisingly good for a mobile game. I don't really play it but it's not like your typical cash-grab stuff out there.

Yup, was the longest I've ever played a mobile game, like 3 weeks or so, but I'm just not the type to play the same game for months. Getting bored too quickly with that short-bursts, instant-gratification and RNG-based stuff.

Yeah, maybe. Problem is, I don't play on mobile either, so he's a huge loss for me as a console/handheld gamer.

But glad that at least Kitase is still at Square (and working on FF7r), he made my favourite game of all time.

There are plans for some console version of some sort eventually... maybe.

If the town in FFXV ends up looking like that...and is fully explorable, it will be the most beautiful town in an RPG...ever.

Never going to happen.

It will be the Vector/Midgar/Esthar/Zanarkand of FFXV.
It'll look massive and sprawling, but we'll likely only get to explore a small section of it. :(

Seriously- that entire city, fully explorable, would be massive even if it was the only location in the entire game.

googled that and... ugh.

Terra Battle isn't Terra-ble, It's Terra-fic!!

The battle system was my least favorite element in Duscae so for once I'm glad he is taking into consideration tips to make it better or even different than what it is now. It's pretty boring and bland for now, even if on paper looks way more exciting than a normal turn based bs or a full action s one. It needs a lot of rework for sure.

I've always been in the camp that believes Square should just make the game they want to make rather than making a focus tested game for the masses. This may be the exception. I really can't blame them for taking in fan feedback to make the combat/game better, they really want this one to hit, even if they have to try to please everyone, which is impossible.

Also, it's a demo. I hated the combat in the FFXII demo, once I got Gambits in the full release I realized the combat has more depth. There may be depth that comes with customizing weapon loadouts that we won't realize till it's out. On top of that, who knows what will change in the final release, combat wise.

from the Noca Crystallis Interview a few days ago

Nova Crystallis: Will the suit for Noctis as designed by Roen still be in the game?

Tabata: The contract we did with Roen when we first started making Final Fantasy Versus XIII contained a number of designs for the game. The designs from Roen that were contracted to us during that point are still being used for Final Fantasy XV.

Maybe im misunderstanding it and taking it out of context, but does that mean there will be several designs for noctis and his crew in this game?

Roen did the designs for the main cast, Noctis' suit as well as the suits for the rest of the Lucians based on the logo sighting and the dress Stella wore in the 2008-2011 trailers.

It seens Tabata confirmed to Gamespot that FF XV will have a simultaneous worldwide release.

This should be the standard these days, IMO.
In these modern times long translation cycles (back in the 16bit and PS1 era there were small localization teams) are crude and archaic- especially for major companies that specialize in JRPGs like S-E. No excuses other than, as Kagari pointed out, market strategy.

Looking back at the last generation even the 13 games could have had a simultaneous release but SE didn't want to release the western versions in December.

Ah, that make sense. I wish other titles had a simultaneous release too, like SO5 for example, but it seens it won't be the case.

ok got it. thought he was referring to the crew. Welp there goes my hope..........

I'm happy that we're getting a simultaneous release date though I would love a heads up if this won't be another FF XIII. I know that I could just wait but I won't be able to resist not buying it day one :P.

Won't be surprised if there aiming for September. Last year it was Destiny this year it's MGS V and Mad Max.

Terra Battle isn't Terra-ble, It's Terra-fic!!

It's interesting to see how Terra Battle was received when first announced, people were jesting about how far Sakaguchi has fallen to resort to a card battle game, then when it was released, nothing but raving about how fun it was. It's almost the opposite of Final Fantasy Mobius. What ever happened to THAT shit?

I mostly meant that main island but yeah even that would be huge.

Good question. What also happened to western versions of FF7 G-Bike and Agito I wonder.

Oh yeah I forgot about this, from the videos looked like a decent effort, quite the arcade feeling in that. Stealth release plz :(

Well the most important bit of this interview was that Tabata is a Red Bull drinker like me, yay.

I wrote this down while listening to the interview, it's pretty much just a messy dump with stuff we've already heard too.
But here you go in case someone doesn't want to watch the whole video.

  • Two phases in marketing, one before Episode Duscae and this new one that started with "Dawn"
  • We kept core values from Versus XIII, but since it became a numbered entry we decided to expand on it
  • We undestand that there are fans of Versus XIII who are worried for the new Final Fantasy XV
  • In the first phase until Episode Duscae we focused on reassuring those people that this is still a good game
  • We wanted to display solid core gameplay at that point, and deliberately hid some changes to the story
  • That phase ended with Episode Duscae and we skipped E3 since we ran out of time
  • We think that people who expected Versus XIII and those who are new to the series are now on the same starting line after Gamescom
  • We've now taken the first step (of this new promotion phase) showing the new trailer
  • The massive things you see in the trailer are still a secret, I want to tell you but we're keeping them under wraps for a while
  • It's a story teaser trailer, which basically shows the key elements to the game's story
  • The name "Dawn" symbolizes that it is a start for this epic story of Final Fantasy XV
  • We're aiming for realistic human emotions and interaction in the story
  • We want that people from all over the world can relate to that story
  • There are many reasons why Stella was changed to Luna. But the most important one was that she has a very different role in the story now and we needed a different character
  • People who don't like the decision will probably change their minds about Luna once they see her in the story
  • Luna is a strong willed, independent character who makes her own decisions
  • Bonds between friends and son/father are very important in the story, but also male and female relationships
  • The car is Regis' car and that symbolizes how Noctis is also traveling together with his father
  • Both the female dragoon and black haired woman play big roles in the game
  • We want to mix story and gameplay in a good way (he mentioned The Last of Us as an example for this)
  • In order to achieve that we need to have a strong technology base
  • We hope to bring Final Fantasy again to that point where people say it's a definitive experience, with both best story and presentation
  • (According to feedback) people who play much JRPG's want incentives to level up, but action game players want more skill based rewards
  • We're trying to find a balance between those two play styles, we have to solve it to make FFXV to work
  • There's lot of people asking for Episode Duscae 3.0 but we've moved on from that
  • Even so we want to create another chance for players to experience the gameplay of FFXV (new demo) at some point
  • No current plans for a PC version, we want to focus on developing and optimizing the console versions
  • Steam is a very interesting platform and I'm looking for an opporturnity to utilize it in the future
  • It's important for us to get the game out as soon as we can
  • Release date has been set and we have a solid roadmap for both development and promotion starting with the trailer today, up until release.
  • It's also been decided when we're announcing that date, the date is already finalized
  • Game is roughly 65% complete and we have a solid plan which is going on very well. We're exactly on target
  • We're at a point where we can pretty much guarantee stable 30fps (on PS4)

Also, Tabata said that he thought of some kind of solution to make both play styles work after talking to Sakaguchi.

I'm thinking it's a manual weapon switch system for advanced players.

Taking notes from The Last of Us is, uh, interesting...
We'll see what comes of all of this. I'm not as worried as most here seem to be.

The question was related to how the party interacts with each other, bantering etc., and how the story seems to flow even outside obvious cutscenes (like the Behemoth scenes in Episode Duscae).

Tabata said that he thinks TLOU did this kind of thing well and wants to explore that kind of blending of storytelling and gameplay which he hasn't really seen much in RPG's.

So basically less traditional cutscenes that interrupt gameplay constantly, more control to the player even if stuff is happening around you.

This was always the plan since Versus.

If applied well, that could benefit the game greatly.

This was always the plan since Versus.
Considering how many things have changed, it's a good thing that is still part of the plan.

Yeah, childhood scenes and whatever the gameplay cutscenes are were recently confirmed to carry over. Although, the latter doesn't really sound that exciting.

Thank fucking lord

Best news on XV yet, IMO.
