This continues to look like pure fucking shit. Man fuck square enix. How could they go so far off the rails? I can't believe it. The combat looks like some stupid ass quick time event. Turret sequence? Stealth kills? Warping around? Drab boring environments. Fuck this game, fuck everyone at square enix. I'm so disgusted by this garbage. Why did you do this to my favorite series? Why did you ruin it? I'm almost in tears over this shit.

Just make a new, good Final Fantasy. Please. Not whatever the fuck you're trying to make now.
Why do you hate your fans? Why are you constantly fucking us over? I'm sick of this shit.

Wow didn't expect a meltdown in this thread :P.

the stealth isn't even required. They showed what happens when you fuck up...welp gotta fight everything now.

Its not like it's instant death or forces you to start over again. Its called having options and different approaches to a situation. Don't like stealth...then don't be stealthy..go in gunz blazing.

it really shouldn't be this hard to grasp, should it? I mean I don't like turret sections either but I didn't see that as anything but an optional tool I could use ( it really feels like a contextual ability at best).

Its just criticism though I guess....but man it feels like a lot of people's concerns could be alleviated if they just took the time to actually do some thinking about things before jumping off the cliff of rage.

I know some people hate when they put emphasis on animation and looks over mechanics, but I think it looks sweet.

The thing I don't get is that from the looks it, they aren't neglecting game mechanics at all. It all looks very polished and it seems like all blends together nicely. The highly contextual battle system and magic system that affects the environment in a very detailed way is something that I'd been very excited to see if they could pull it off since the patent, and they fucking did it IMO.

This was great. I am now in full hype mode!
I've always wanted to see the classic Magitech armor reimagined with modern graphics and they look so good !

They now remind me of that fucking Warmech random encounter that made me rage quit one of the older games, 1 or 2 I think?

We'll see, FF died with episode 9 for me even if I know some people really love number 10. My expectations are pretty low after playing the demo and every footage of it doesn't hype me anymore...

The game looks to be so far from what It was at the beginning that I'm sure I'll be disappointed at the end, hope SE can surprise me...

It's actually gotten a lot closer...also legit curious but...personally the last game in the series I loved (ARR aside for now) was XII. You say IX. Would you want the series to basically be that style forever...because what's the point? If you put yourself in SE's shoes as people in charge of a creative endeavor isn't it better to try something new rather than make the same thing every day for 3-5 years?

It's not like SE aren't porting every FF game under the sun to every platform under the sun at some point. To be honest from you saying every footage doesn't hype you...well you said the series died for your after IX...if the breadth of styles SE has gone for after IX didn't grab you it may be an uphill battle unfortunately :( Hope you find something to like though.

Uh, another reason to avoid buying a PS4, that's cool. There's nothing left for me at this point, all the other titles are either not exclusive or not interesting for me, thanks for the money saved SE!

They need to add some flashy effect to when you change weapon, as it is now it looks very dull and random.

Also, can we please get a DF version of the footage please?

The way combat works for starters it's more like an action game.
The four main characters is a major turnoff to and I feel like the developers are more interested in making cool characters then intresting characters, they feel very one dimensional.

Well I think you might be pleased to hear that your assumptions are wrong. They're not dressed that way to look "cool", it's very much relevant to the story and their relationships.

Yeah, because stealth sections, robots and Magitek Armors are a first on Final Fantasy with this game.

Get real.

Nope but a gameplay video based on sneaking, teleporting and slashing big mechs reminds me of Raiden more than in Final Fantasy.

When was the last time you dodged missiles, teleported into the back of a soldier, slashed him 5 times and teleported again while playing a FF game? The game may be good but I watched this trailer thinking "what the fuck am I watching?" the whole time.

Honestly, stealth is a logical next step for RPGs without random encounter. Even Persona 5 is doing it.

It's a way of making that Player/Enemy advantage more in line with player agency. You get to decide the difference between being surrounded and an ambush.

It's an ARPG. What else would you expect?

Reactions are fine, everyone should have their own opinion, but some of the replies come off as they didn't know this game existed until now. We've known about this game since 2006.

This is actually pretty funny because I remember people going "omg stealth?!!" But In a completely different way than reactions in here. Different fan base I guess more willing for change. Even tho it's not really change because everything I've seen looks like ff to me

That kind of shit was in older games as FMV cutscenes, now they've made it playable.

This is the only thing that "worried" me in today's ATR. I'm curious how much optimization that needs to be done to improve performance on consoles.

I think their language might make you think it is worse than it is. I mean I don't have an inside track but it could be as simple as them identifying memory leaks that lead to performance drops in locations or under situations or optimizing the poly count or density of certain things...my only real worry will be if they don't show optimized/beta/near final PS4 footage at March Event.

I would want 1080p/30fps (not necessarily locked but the lowest dips should be 1-2 like The Division beta) and some sort of shadowing on grass because no shadows just looks so fucking barren and exacerbates the problem of not having a lot of things to look at. Dragon Age Inquisition did a really good job of this without tanking performance. That said if 900p/30fps was the difference between a messy frame rate and a stable one I'd take it but I feel like someone should tell Tabata to think more of the resolution + frame rate from the earlier points of development next time.

possible dp

It's strange that people think it's close from reveal, I never imagine the game could be something like this, especially from story line POV from the first trailer...

It doesn't looks like a FF to me, more like an inferior KH with weak infiltration options... I'm not sure I'm digging the all Broforce on the road story stuff too, we'll see how It ends but I'm pessimistic about the game as a all.

Than you probably need to follow it closer no offense to you of course. But this is falling in line with what people who were excited years ago wanted

I'm not trying to say that her works are repetitive, nor am I trying to say I always recognize them

But I can remember there being a bunch of times I've gone "this sounds like something Shimomura would come up with", checked online and lo and behold, she's behind it.

Legend of Mana is actually one of those times lol. Love the song you linked (diddle's organ).

I don't know what trailers you were watching but what you describe is what they've always sold Versus as.

I saw nothing I would really want to see in a Final Fantasy game here.

The Fira and the Dragoon were cool I suppose.

Perhaps future teases will be better.

Agreed. Good news is that in the Progress Report one of the notes was that they requested VFX for it.

The combat definitely looks better than what I've seen from the demo.

It does. It still looks sort of finicky to me, I dunno. Especially when the air stuff comes into play. The air combat on the big enemies looked surprisingly solid, but it looks weird when he starts doing air moves on the shorter knight/soldier enemies.

I'm sure it's fun to play though. I'm just stoked to be getting a more action based FF tbh. Can't do most turn based systems anymore.

Care to explain Dragon Quest? Which continues to be so popular because it holds true to what people love the franchise for?

Yes, Final Fantasy is the IP where they mess around and try new things and such but where has it gotten them since FFX?

It's par for the course. Optimzation isn't easy, and is usually being done up until release day. We've had almost a year since Duscae, so I'm sure things are notably better, not worse.

When was the last time Dragon Quest has been a big hit in America on console's? Has it even done better than FF?

By my count, it's gotten them a whole bunch of really cool games, and my favorite game in the series (XII).

If anything, I wish SE would fuck with FF even more.

Square Enix still makes many other games that still have and embrace some aspects of turn base combat. so go ahead and please play all of them, feel good about it and move on. I know you love the old style more but it is not what the vast majority of JRPG and S-E want for this game. maybe next time we will se something like my favorite and beloved FF9 and that would be awesome too but this game is as awesome as any next gen FF9 can be.

Hmm fair point. Hadn't really thought of DQ, but to be the traditional nature is almost the point of it. Looking forward to XI. and...well...I mean I don't think it's like XII or XIII sold badly (maybe not series highs but to be honest I don't have much of a clue about their sales). They've screwed up for sure...because if we imagine a parallel Earth-2 where SE had a perfect engine in Crystal Tools and then it's next gen evolution in Luminous we would have had an increased number of titles with probably greater breadth in depth than we do at the moment from SE and with more of the traditional titles.

I think Kitase said it's not like turn based is dead, or ATB, or whatever evolution like XII's ADB...but they worked on it for so long they just don't have a screaming rush to get back to working on it. Don't get me wrong, I would like something....somewhat approaching the older more classic titles, but I can still play those, either for "free" or whenever SE re-releases them. Although my worry at this point is that SE would just be attempting to recapture past glories rather than doing something that was fresh and new.

I want whatever Ito has been working away on.

So now they have to make games thinking of what american consumers want? Then just make all the games be like Halo.
I don't see the Japanese market buying very many consoles. Should they just move everything to handheld or mobile?

Edit and let me replace "west" with "everywhere not Japan"
