FINAL FANTASY XV - Niflheim Base Battle Footage

Because I've not played two of those games [and it's been ages since I played Final Fantasy VII and I did not complete much of it], would you mind sharing how this feature was implemented in those and other games - as in how did you as a player go about fueling your vehicle??
In Xenoblade Chronicles X, you get a Skell (a mech). It runs on "fuel."

The "fuel" can recharge when you're not in it, when you're in it in certain weather conditions, when you defeat enemies, and when you buy "fuel" in town.

It's nothing special. It's just a slight mechanic that's there.

In Mad Max you had to find gas cans scattered about the wasteland or stop at a stronghold that you got the Oil Well upgrade for.

Ahh! Thanks!

I'm weird I guess, I want to pull into a gas station with Noctis and Co. and actually have to get out of the car, swipe a card/pay inside and then fill up the tank with some kind of small, but fun QTE maybe.

Actually that might get old really quick lol!

Ahh! So not a realistic use of fueling your vehicle then I guess.

This part had me rolling lol prompto failing hard

Hopefully when you get out of the car to put gas in it, all the other guys will get out also and stretch, or maybe go inside the convenience store to use the restroom or to get some supplies for the trip. That just seems really cool and it fits in perfectly with the realism they are trying for with the world.

I feel like it will be that way since it was similar to that in the demo. They were all looking at different things, even at the Chocobo Post as well.

Don't see why it wouldn't, Duscae already had those things. I think it'll end up like any place like a gas station, store, restaurant, the party will go their own way and when leaving Noctis will call them (like he did in Duscae).

It's a nice detail that I really appreciated from Duscae.

I've gone trough the code of the Uncovered FFXV website and I've found some interesting bits in the Javascript file (http://www.finalfantasyxv.com/uncovered/js/main.js)

There are PC retail/Steam Store links suggesting a PC release is under way.

More pages are being prepared for the website, including a Trailer, Schedule, FAQ, Livestream, What/About and Travel pages. Now only the Home page seems live.

PC version seems to be happening, not that unexpected really.

I see you updated that these have now been deleted. ..... sloppy copy & paste work, or are they hiding a secret?

Look for some Kingsglaive references while you're at it :P

Holy crap... If they have a feature akin to FFIX's Active Time Events, I'd do wonders for characterization. It's the feature I've wanted the most to make a comeback in FF.

Active Time Events were legitimately heartwarming. Such a nice change of pace. Though, I think voice acted cutscenes will make those a bit less relaxing if they're in FFXV.

Hopefully they have something fun to flesh them out. There's the dart thing which hopefully is a minigame. What I would love to see are events in inns/hotels after checking in for the night.

Characterization seems like a big deal in this game. It sounds like the combos you gain with party members will be tied to some sort of affinity system. Basically P4 social links.

It would seem that "On Tour" missions would tie into that, and are somewhat like ATE's in a way.

They also added that face to face cam thing, which seems like a Mass Effect/Witcher style conversation cam. Maybe we'll get to choose dialogue for those?

pls waifu social links

Embrace the Latin! Muhahaha!!!

But seriously... I'm sure we'll be calling them Gladio and other nicknames like Noctis does by the end of the game.
Other Guy 1 and Other Guy 2 for me.

If they go that route, hopefully they make them worthwhile. Most games that use "affinity" these days don't do anything meaningful with it. It's in your best interest to make everyone your friend no matter what. Boring. So, so boring.

The On Tour stuff was pretty bad, and seemed like busywork. ATE's were just relaxing. Going to Dali and seeing Garnet try to fit in is different from going out to see the stars with Ignis, which sounds like a good time on paper, but there was busywork involved.

I also think having voice acted cutscenes that you can't advance at your own pace definitely makes it less relaxing. The biggest reason why Persona's SLs are successful is because you can advance those at your own pace since it's like a visual novel.

That's sadly something that could be said of all the quest design in Duscae... There were literally fetch quests that unlocked, told you exactly where to go to pick up an item, and end the instant you pick up the item... I really hope they were so simplistic due to time constraints...

At the very least Tabata has played Witcher 3 and should see why that is terrible...

So is the Assassin's Creed hooded man out of the picture now or...? We heard nothing about him during this past ATR.

EDIT: I never asked for this :P

The hooded man is clearly the main villain of the story and they want to keep him in the shadows as much as possible.

He will be someone's brother. Either Luna's or Noctis'.

Wait, you can't equip other weapons at will...?

We don't know yet, since Duscae you had to equip first, then go in a fight, maybe it will be the same thing this time around, but at least you'll be able to switch at will your weapons equipped to the dpad., though.

After Saturday's ATR I doubt any character we've seen so far has been straight up removed from the game. He probably wasn't presented with the rest of the Niflheim villains because they keep him shrouded him in secrecy.

There's also the possibility he isn't from Niflheim at all given the Wolf emblem on his shoulder guard.

The guy reminds me so much of the Gundam Char Clones in terms of design. I wouldn't be surprised if his actual character went through a similar arc.

God, these names...

Gotta be honest, I still am not a fan of the Latin names either. They've become EASIER to swallow over the years, but still sound like Nomura has this big Latin fetish(same with KH's Terra/Aqua/Ventus shit). What, did he listen to One-Winged Angel and run up to Uematsu and ask him what this wondrous language was? Did he nudge Uematsu to make Liberi Fatali in Latin as well? Noctis is probably the easiest to swallow(though I prefer just Noct), with Ignis in a close second. Gladiolus and Prompto... urgh.

Yeah, I don't think they are going to reveal EVERY character in this game. I mean, right now, we know Cid is a character, and fought along side Regis back in the day, but we still have yet to see him. Will we see him in March or will we have to wait until the game's released? It could go either way, quite frankly. I think, regarding info regarding characters, we probably know all we SHOULD know regarding the heroes and villains. Most are still shrouded in mystery, which is good. This mystery should be solved via the game itself. For instance, they talk about Gentiana as being somewhat mysterious... and for the time being(until the game's released), lets keep it that way.

It's not that they're Latin names that's the problem.

Noctis is pretty good actually (aside from the heavy-handed symbolism). Ignis or whatever it is, is fine.

The other names are just problematic because of how overwrought and unwieldy they are.

There are plenty of other Latin names they could have chosen.

Regarding the names, I agree they are not the most clever. As you said, Noctis and Ignis are fine. Prompto and Gladiolus are... Eh... Not bad, not great either.

My main issue is with Ignis' full name. "Ignis Stupeo Scientia". It's like too "in your face". And "Stupeo" sounds too much like "stupid" to the point of being very goofy, regardless of its true meaning...

"Argentum" and "Amicitia" are also related to their characters' features, but the latin words are more obscure, so I guess they are alright. "Scientia" however, is too direct. Like "get it? Scientia? Because he's the smart one?"

Gotta blame the English language on a lot of that though. Latin gets borrowed in plenty of languages but what does or doesn't sound too direct is pretty language dependant. Not liking the sound of the names is something else to be fair, I do feel like Noctis and Ignis flow the best, but when it comes to their meaning these names don't sound like anything in my native language for example and I feel like they work a whole lot better because of that. I imagine the same goes for Japanese.

Now if you're already familiar with Latin that's another story, and I am. They're very on the nose in regard to their true meaning. But most people aren't.

I feel like names like Cloud or Lightning (or hell, the XIII cast in general) are worse in comparison. At least Latin's a dead language.
