I like the names for the most part but the only one that still kind of irks me is Gladiolus. Just sort of a mouth full to say everytime. I'm glad Gladio sounds pretty good.

Based on Ignis reaction I'm seriously starting to believe the rumor of Ignis betraying the prince.

I think the whole Latin thing just sounds tacky. It's like Nomura, while writing ideas for names, had a Japanese-to-Latin dictionary on hand, or something akin to Google Translate.

For a game like Glory of Heracles, it makes sense for all the heroes to have Greek names. For FF, I don't mind them going with variety. Some could be based on Latin, some could be German, French, Japanese and such.

And the names don't have to always reflect who the character is, personality-wise. It would be like making an Edgy character named "Darken Von Ravenhart.", who is brooding and tormented, with a dark past. While in a few cases, it's neat to have characters with names that reflect who they are, sometimes(well, most), it just seems... unimaginative. Going out of your way to be "creative" kinda makes it even less creative. It's teetering on the edge of Dudley Do-Rght and DIck Dastardly levels of creativity, which was fine for, like, over 40 years ago.

I think the development team doesn't realize how stupid these names are because of the way the Japanese languages romanizes foreign names. For example, if I take two names, "Guradiorasu" and "Girugamesshu", one of the two is more of a mouthful than the other, but in romanized forms they don't look or sound too different.

I don't like it either. "Noct" also sounds bad to me. They should just really say the entire name. Noctis isn't exactly a mouthful to say.
sounds like knocktO to me, however I think that I'm used to the Japanese voices accent adding a "long "O", a homophone of "toe"" word to any English spoken word.

I'm gonna make a few wild guesses about the event reveals.

Tech demo of kid Noctis is actually the epilogue of the game and we experience the near death experience.

It will be free after the event.

There will be a couple thousand/limited stock collectors edition maybe around 10k of them.

The new trailer will be titled Dusk, mostly comprised of CG and cutscenes new yoko music.

They may change the Etro logo for the Sword logo instead.

Release date October 11th.

Sword logo? You mean of Regis holding Noctis and his sword? (I think that would make an amazing cover btw)

What sword logo? Highly doubt they'll change the logo of the game this late, and really hope they don't.

I'm really hoping for early September. Don't wanna get this game while I'm in school, I'll probably not end up playing it until winter break. :(

Do you mean prologue or epilogue? I would expect the young Noctis part to be at the start of the game but a flashback at the end of the game could work too.

I think you mean prologue.

I am with you on everything though. But I'm hoping for August/September

Yes, and Ignis Stupeo Scientia is a cool name because it makes sense since he's smart

fuck a meaning i'll go acapella

Hmm yeah i'll give you that lol
But idk, i like Gladio more than Glad.

Yeah, Noct, is closer to Noct-o, there aren't any singular 't' sounds in Japanese. I feel like in the English version they should call him Noctis because Nocto sounds a little strange in English imo

Probably prologue.. I was just copying what the source I have has said.

I don't think this covers the entire event though. There could be more, and all of what I said may be true.

Take with grain of salt tho, but it almost seems legit.

I don't like it either. "Noct" also sounds bad to me. They should just really say the entire name. Noctis isn't exactly a mouthful to say.

I'm more ok with Noct, but it was still hard to get used to. Doesn't stand good enough on it's own IMO to justify shortening it from Noctis which, as you said, isn't a mouthful.

Hmm yeah i'll give you that lol

I dunno, Glad reminds me of Vlad, so it just sounds like something more familiar and less forced to me.

I'm sure they won't change the logo at this point. Too late and the sword is not near as classy as the Amano goddess.

The logo change theory is a perfect example of a totally baseless rumor that has absolutely no basis in reality. They will not change the logo.

Makes me wonder what the point of that picture is then. I mean it is official. There has never been another logo for XV till that one appeared, but why would it.

But you guys are right I do like the current logo, looks like the best in the franchise.

The rumor also said that the game would have a season pass and airship dlc was free... lol personally didn't like the sound of DLC already in mind.

It's just a design they used for a wallpaper image. It's not meant to be the actual official logo.

Similarly the cover art for the collector edition of FFXII didn't mean that they changed the logo for FFXII:

And the opening credits for FFVII didn't reveal an official FF series logo out of nowhere:

I think the names of the characters are fine for the most part the only one that really sticks out to me is Ardyn. I know it is Latin, but it's more of a contemporary name than all of the other characters. These names are a HUGE improvement over Final Fantasy XIII though. Seriously Sazh, Lightning, Snow, Hope, Fang....really?

The only name that actually bothers me is Cindy because she's supposed to be called Cidney, another perfectly normal Western name, yet it was changed for undisclosed reasons.

The only reasoning I can come up with is SEO(search engine optimization), as a quick google search found a post on Urban Dictionary saying "Cidney" was slang for LSD. Who the hell would know that? It's decisions like that that feel condescending and out of touch with the Western audience. I doubt the decision came from a Westerner. Also, since the announcement of her character, the most popular results all relate to the FFXV character by that name.

Regarding the names, I agree they are not the most clever. As you said, Noctis and Ignis are fine. Prompto and Gladiolus are... Eh... Not bad, not great either.

My main issue is with Ignis' full name. "Ignis Stupeo Scientia". It's like too "in your face". And "Stupeo" sounds too much like "stupid" to the point of being very goofy, regardless of its true meaning...

"Argentum" and "Amicitia" are also related to their characters' features, but the latin words are more obscure, so I guess they are alright. "Scientia" however, is too direct. Like "get it? Scientia? Because he's the smart one?"

I'd say "Ignis Stupeo Scientia" sounds like Ignis Stupid Science. :p

I agree with this. That name change was very weird to me as well and it was never explained why they changed it.

The logo is perfect, no need to touch it at all. It's going to gain sense after we play the game, something similar to what happened with FFXIII (and others before that).

And I am okay with the names, the only one bugging me is Cindy when Cidney is so obviously more fitting but oh well.

Can't wait for FFXVI where John and Anna have to stop Marley, the leader of the evil empire.

There's already Edward, the Bard Prince, who eloped with Anna; Edgar the machine savvy king, Josef the Miner, his daughter Nelly, Princes Gordon and Scott of Kashuan and Richard Highwind, FF's first Dragoon. Normal names have always been a part of the series, but are best used in moderation. I mean, Maria(FFII) and Rosa(FFIV) are common Spanish names, and are also the names of two main heroines in the FF series. As long as we don't get a character named Ted. This isn't Suikoden(which actually get some slack regarding names considering how fuckin HUGE the casts are).

It should be Cidney.

And to that point, no one calls her Cindy. Most articles on her(the controversial boob related ones) call her Cidney, because it's obvious that's what she's supposed to be called. Her character, her design, everything about her makes it evident she's a female Cid. Calling her Cindy is an insult. It's like if you went to a Japanese restaurant, and they cook your sushi and give you a fork to eat it with because you're a foreigner.

Because I've not played two of those games [and it's been ages since I played Final Fantasy VIII and I did not complete much of it], would you mind sharing how this feature was implemented in those and other games - as in how did you as a player go about fueling your vehicle??
Not sure if your question was answered by someone else or not. There were cars in that game you could rent from nearby towns like the one closest to your home garden. I believe you could refill the gas in them. They were a very minor minor thing you could do in the game to travel faster through land.

Oh, cool. Thanks Trojita!
