Does anyone else feel like they just suck at this game so far? There's a lot I don't understand yet and I'm well into Chapter 3. I just plain suck at defending (holding Square does shit all when that prompt comes up), I can never seem to find warp points in battle to regen so my characters go into Danger mode 3-4x per battle, and my HP permanently goes down in dungeons until I rest at an inn/camp, leaving Noctis at like 150hp max health going into each battle, meaning he's one-shot repeatedly.

The whole thing's really frustrating. What am I doing wrong? I'm like level 16.

I'm with you there. I'm slowly getting better, but it feels good to be challenged when so many people were saying the combat is too easy

Hope to finish the game today but honestly feeling very mixed about the whole thing. There's good, even great parts but there's also really baffling, bad parts throughout. We'll see how I feel at the end.

If you give the bad parts of FFXIV a pass, you'll have to explain why FFXV's matter.

Some the Monster Force Five games prize output is based off how many of those chocobo sounding plank things you win, with it topping out at 99? Is there any point to go beyond that? And you only win one prize?

From my understanding, the rewards are based off the treasure collected (the square shaped icons). It really annoys me that you have to literally have all four characters die before you can cash out.

Hold square to dodge and avoid hits. If you dont get the warning to evade you can still get hit from attacks. I saw that moving in and out of battle works well. Attack combo then back out. Have your party get aggro. Come from behind and do extra damage.

I'm just annoyed and upset mainly bc I was pretty explicit in what I wanted to know and what type of answer I wanted. And not only did he not do that, he spoiled the fate of one of the other characters in the game... Like a big spoiler.. Srsly, wtf is wrong with people?

Yeah, I read the reply because of how you asked the question, thought for sure it'd be fine.

I know it's all out there already but people really need to be better about tagging their spoilers in here.

:/

Glad to see that Noctis is as bored by Iris's company as I am. This is hilarious

It really was. Not even just the questions, but those noises he makes when Iris makes a random comment. So good

Do you? i got a Sapphire Amulet after hitting circle to quit.

Which you can easily just run past, the aggro area is exceptionally small, and enemies can't follow you fast enough, even sprinting.
The point is that if we travel in car then they spawn in the middle of the road and the car just stops there, since we can't avoid taking it away from the Giants.

So this results in the party running away while leaving the car behind. We can actually stop as soon as we see them and I have tried a trick where I just reverse for a while and then continue and they disappear during manual driving.

Sometimes they can be head-scratchers, though

Maybe they genuinely thought the bush was looking good! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I swear I'm doing most of this. Holding square never seems to do anything. 1 out of 10 times it'll work and I'll get the prompt to then hit O and parry. Another 1 out of 10 times I'll get lucky with timing and do the little warp dodge maneuver. I can't seem to tell when enemies are attacking at all. Was easy with Gladio in the tutorial due to his heavily telegraphed swings.

My weapon set up is completely different than what I thought it would be lol. Some quick dagger action than a quick switch the guns and use the rolling shot backwards to get distance...soooo good

I feel like I might be having audio issues or something.

During cutscenes, voices are super low and I can barely hear the characters talk.

It's fine during regular gameplay though.

the square prompt means a mob is about to do a major move on you.....it doesn't always mean right away sadly. It takes time to get used to parrying and counter attacking. One mob/Rhino was about to charge me from like 50 feet away and I waited till just before he hit me to tap the button. Also if you are mid swing with a heavy weapon or any weapon for that matter you will not be able to defend. You can't just hold circle and swing away unconsciously all the time. Heavier the weapon the less likely you will be able to parry that attack due to timing Take your time with mobs, abuse the bro's skills, warp strike like a bat out of hell and make sure to regen your mp by going to warp points mid combat if you can.

hmm really hate the small text in this is my only complaint so far, other than that, just started chapter 3, but I enjoyed Xenoblade x more so than this so far...some things like quick travel already feels off to me, am i doing something wrong but why can i only quick travel to the last resting camp site? but not other locations...

I feel like switching to control type C and using the shoulder buttons to attack and defend really helps with the camera issues, since you can move the camera and attack at the same time.

Either there's hundreds of side quests in this game or a majority can be done in chapter 3? This is insane how many are available in this chapter.

Just to last rested site and car. From your car you can fast travel to any parkable location.

What is the very small bar/meter on the bottom middle of the screen? It's usually right below Noct's feet and usually has some symbols on top of it, like a shield or occasionally a sword. I have no idea what it means.

Is there a cap to how many AP points you get to spend? Are you able to unlock every skill in the Ascension grid? Is there a respec option if I mess up my build?

It doesn't look like it. There are just too many ways you can keep getting AP. Also, AP grid seems super small. Does it ever get bigger?

Totally, the combat makes no sense to me at all, its a messy, randomised button holding nightmare at the moment, which will make it all the more satisfying if I can nail it.

Could I enjoy this game if Xenoblade Chronicles X didn't click at all with me? I know they are fundamentally different games but there seems to be some similarities. For example the massive open world aspect and hunting quests. I prefer something more focused. The exploration and repetitive nature of the missions in XCX was too boring for me.
Plus I like JRPGs in general.

Checked and my tv doesn't have any settings that'll fix this.
No way to turn of overscan :/?

Did not like xenoblade, I like FF...if that matters to you in any way

Does anyone know what dictates whether the "Return to car" option is greyed out or not at any given time? It seems so random. I'm in the middle of the desert, nothing to do anywhere around me, and it won't let me return to my car. Why not?

Ok thanks, is there a Respec option available just in case?

Dont think it gets bigger, some of the skills cost like 99 AP points too. If anything there might be another grid that gets added later on but im not sure. Online alot of builds focus on only spending 200 points so I thought that might be an indicator of a cap.

Also anyone know where to find metal scrap in chapter 2?

Try control scheme B. Parry only works if you are not in the middle of an attack animation, try to hold down the attack button instead of mashing to get a better feel at it.
Warp strike/beat an enemy to the ground/warp to the next/repeat until out of mp, tilt the cam up to find a safe space, hard press the warp button to recover your mp.

My magic ascension grid is almost done. Adding 30 potency to every one you craft makes for some easy ways to make some powerful stuff, only having to draw from one spot to get filled up is great and earning ap Everytime you craft is great

Some cost 999. There is no respec afaik... The metal scrao is in one of the story related missions on chapter 2, forgot which.

I just got the game yesterday and I'm already 22 hours in. Chapter 7. Finished like 42 sidequests.

I think I need a life.
I probably won't log that much in 2 weeks. LOL Where some of you get/have the time... even at my youngest, unemployed, nothing-but-free-time best, I couldn't do that. More power to you. :)

If you like JRPGs I don't see why you wouldn't like this. If the open world bothers you, you can play on easy and just do main quests and a few sidequests.

That's another thing that annoys me, why the hell can't I free move the camera while paused in wait mode? There's no way to target those recovery points in wait mode.

Riding your chocobo around levels it up. You get - stamina and speed and stuff when it levels

You can also camp and give it the greens that raise stamina for an extra boost

I lost the second race until my chocobo was level 3
oh, since you're racing vs party members I assumed their chocobos had the same level as mine so it didn't matter.
I guess I know what to do now.

This game looks like ass to me, so much of it is so unbelievably ugly it's almost hard to believe it's on PS4. LoD is straight out of Skyrim.

Same here. I feel like I'm missing something with the combat. There doesn't seem like much to it other than hold circle and hope you can dodge something now and again.
