About to start the game this week, do I need to watch the movie before or just jump into the game without it?

IMO the movie is a must see to not feel lost in terms of the story. It does a much better job of introducing the world, backstory and some of the character than game itself.

Having seen it I'm enjoying the story of the game so far. Had I not seen it I think I would have way too many questions right now

Does anyone know how long it takes Cid to complete his weapon upgrade quests? It's telling me to "pass the time"

I've already waited a full day and I'd like to have my upgraded lance before chapter 3 (getting as much done as possible before the games opens up)

Why would we know that, team hasn't talk about frame pacing at all during the development.

Sorry!!! Just saw a lot of people mention that a December patch is coming, figured someone might know something or what the patch might have in it. Right now the biggest issue for me is the frame pacing.

Huh? He gave them to me immediately.

It is random from what I can tell. Sometimes it takes him a lot of days in-game and then one day when we wake up, Noctis gets a call from him to pick up the weapon.

Huh? He gave them to me immediately.
He does that only the first time, I think.

Same here. I feel like I'm missing something with the combat. There doesn't seem like much to it other than hold circle and hope you can dodge something now and again.

Well, to be fair, we could say that 99% of the combat in past FFs boiled could just be auto-battled.

Anyone compile a list of combat tips & tricks yet? It just feels so janky and chaotic (not in a fun way). It may be because the tutorials were awful, but I feel like I just go in and mash some random shit and that's it. When I try to plan stuff and be controlled the camera is flopping all over, getting attacked from things off camera, parry timing seems to dramatically vary, etc.

So far it seems like the combat is promising, just hasn't clicked with me yet. Characters and visuals are underwhelming thus far. Only like 2 hours in though.

Do you only need to eat one dish from each food place to get new recipes? It seems like it. Eating a second dish doesn't seem to do anything.

Played almost 4 hours (high detail Pro mode) and so far, and it feels as if it's kind of a more fun ... Dragon Age Inquisition.
It looks really really good, animations are great, soundtrack is good too if sometimes a little out of place. The environment design is amazing, enemy design as well.
But many other parts are very questionable (like Cindy's design, ugh...), side quests are boring AF, the pacing is terrible, voice acting is mostly cringe-worthy, in fact the voice cast often sounds off and don't fit the mood/scenes/characters (Dino lol), writing is serviceable at best and even the main story missions are filled with fetch quests ... Oh did I say fetch quests? Fetch quests. BTW, I wouldn't mind if the game was 10 hours, just stop filling the main campaign with unfun crap.

That being said, it's still entertaining and it looks so freaking great. I will continue playing at least for the visuals. :|

7 hours in and just bear chapter 1 :lol I'm having loads of fun just running around picking up random items and peppers.

Probably asked a million times but what items can I sell?! I have like 6k from hunts..

Just got a totally optional scene by staying at a hotel with Prompto that really fleshed out his character. It was really touching and well performed.

Why is this shit hidden and optional? It's so good yet so obscure to find.

Not digging English voices. Is Japanese better and lip synced?
Japanese voices are better imo, but there's some unsubtitled dialog and the english subtitles are a transliteration of the english version which is sometimes plenty different from what's being said in English.

They're used in crafting. Spells and weapon upgrades. I'd recommend keeping 1-2 of each at least, but selling them is essential in order to gain Gil at times.

I feel like I am not getting the combat at all. Every time the Square button pops up to block it seems to miss each time. I assume I can't be in a weapon animation to block? Does the other controller presets help with this matter at all?

Also does anyone have the location on the map where I can buy the FFXI OSTs in Duscae?

Thanks!

I saw this question earlier but didn't see if there was an answer:

On the Ascension grid, the "Strength Level", "Spirit Level", "Health Level" and "Vitality Level" abilities all "enhance stat X of each party member by the number of levels gained". Does this mean SO FAR or will the bonus be applied every time I level up in the future? Kinda scared of unlocking these abilities too early and fucking myself in the long run.

FINAL FANTASY XV released on November 29, 2016 was a big betraying the fans' expectations
I felt that the remark by Mr. Tabata Edda did not reach the quality which can be released to the world with many contradictions with the product version.
Therefore we strongly hope to restart FINAL FANTASY versus XIII which is the predecessor of FINAL FANTASY XV.
More specifically, Tetsuya Nomura of the former director and Kazunari Nojima of the story draft will be appointed again, making works that are faithful to the versusu XIII system and stories.
And I strongly hope not to involve BD 2 staff, including Mr. Tabata who was involved in XV, and Saori Saeki Lead Scenario Designer.
Please sign if you do not mind.

Could I enjoy this game if Xenoblade Chronicles X didn't click at all with me? I know they are fundamentally different games but there seems to be some similarities. For example the massive open world aspect and hunting quests. I prefer something more focused. The exploration and repetitive nature of the missions in XCX was too boring for me.
Plus I like JRPGs in general.

As someone who didn't like Xenoblade Chronicles X very much, I would say yes. That game would put me to sleep every single time, in the literal sense of the sentence. The characters are so generic and the battle is freaking boring.

FF XV, on the other hand, is providing me with plenty of enjoyable moments.

Pretty sure it's cumulative, as unlocking it gives you an immediate boost.

It should read "increase your hp by everyone's levels added together"

Combat feels very intuitive to me. The only issue being the camera is sometimes not very good. Setting the battle camera to zoomed out helped this slightly.

The trick with combat is to combo for a few hits, then either defend or warp to a new position and repeat. Keep mobile.

Keep an eye on enemies and don't be put off by holding block for a few seconds if you're surrounded. You can then let it auto dodge while you use the time to take stock then choose a new position target and move.

And remember weapons have alt-attacks bound to attack+direction of the left analog. Some have backflips and lunges which can be used for positioning etc...

Relax, it's not as hectic as it seems with all the moving parts. Once you realize you can take it relatively slowly timing team moves, using warp points when you need a breather/to recharge, and making sure you to keep close to another team mate for links, etc... become a lot easier.

This game looks like ass to me, so much of it is so unbelievably ugly it's almost hard to believe it's on PS4. LoD is straight out of Skyrim.

Same here. I feel like I'm missing something with the combat. There doesn't seem like much to it other than hold circle and hope you can dodge something now and again.

There are different attacks you can do by pushing a direction and circle, as well as hitting circle, leaving a delay and then circle again. You're missing out on a bunch of specific combos and moves by solely holding circle. Once you start plugging away a the ascension grid then the combat opens up to a lot more variety.

My favorite kind of Final Fantasy quest: going to the store to buy some guy a tomato.

Finally a Final Fantasy for those of us who really enjoyed the opening hours of Trails in the Sky FC.

Anyone got tips for what to spend AP on? So far I got Regroup, travel AP boosts, and a hamdful of combat upgrades.

I got the most value out of boosting my bros. Can't tell you the exact skills because I'm not in front of my PS4.

Remember that parry timing isn't much of a factor. All you have to do when you see the square button prompt on the screen is to hold the button down until the enemy hits. The game isn't clear on that, and a lot of people understandably think you need to push square right as the enemy connects with you. I did, and only realized I needed to hold square (as indicated by the small downward arrow on the button prompt) like 25 or 30 hours in!

Yeah im at the point where a large open world is a negative... I much prefer a smaller, denser world instead of running for hours doing fetch quests... even Witcher 3

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
That's another thing that annoys me, why the hell can't I free move the camera while paused in wait mode? There's no way to target those recovery points in wait mode.

This for me as well. Did no one playtest that? I just have to keep inching out of wait mode until I can get the thing in frame, but its a very obvious oversight on how auto-targeting in Wait mode can disrupt warp-points.
