Chapter 3 is gonna take me so long to move on from, nearly 8 hours played (total) and I've just only scratched the surface of all there's to do in the new zone.

I spent nearly 3 hours just on Chapter 1...

Lol I spent like 6-7 for Ch. 1, game is addicting as hell

I think the biggest issue I have with this game so far-- and it's not even really the game itself but rather the nature of development, but I think where we've been seeing the same environments for years, that they've really lost any impact or sense of wonder. It doesn't help that the world itself isn't particularly creative, but I think I would be into the world a lot more had I not already been exposed to it so much by this point through media, the Duscae demo, etc.

I did find Leide to be pretty bland, but Duscae IS very nice, it's just that I've seen so much of this place for years. I'm hoping that at some point I can find a better sense of wonder but I'm not holding my breath.

I like the game just fine, but there's just been no real "magic" to it and I think it's mostly because of what I just outlined there. The opening region IS incredibly bland though.

For me, Duscae was far away enough that it feels fresh. More importantly, getting to explore past the demo borders just feels amazing.

And while Liede I explored in the demo, there was plenty I missed (mainly due to not wanting to do too much before the actual game). I don't think Liede is super bland but Duscae is miles better.

Is there any trick to getting a Cactuar to spawn? I tried going to the spot NW of Hammerhead a few times but haven't seen anything.

I don't think it's spoiler to say this, but Gentiana's certainly different from what I was expecting. Her character really took me by surprise.

I haven't done it myself, but I think there is a hunt in Hammerhead for it, he should spawn if you do it (I assume that you are trying to upgrade the autocrossbow)

Wow, I know they changed the way Noctis's English VA performed, but its A LOT better now. I really appreciate that they listened to the feedback to that extent.

Thanks for showing this. Way too scared to look for videos on Youtube, since spoilers are presumably everywhere.

Nah, i just record fighting regular goons is dangerous out there. For some reason i cant upload clips to youtube anyways.

Combat feels great the constant switching of hard and soft lock on is what confuses ppl

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
BUMP!

I just found out that there are 50% XP boost food.

How do these work? Can I use them just before camping and get 50% XP bonus on the massive XP gains that I've got? Can I do that with quest rewards as well, I mean, me taking the buff just as I turn in a bunch of quests?

Question about hunts. Am I supposed to keep roaming the area where it tells me they will be at and they just spawn? Or am I supposed to stick around a town and listen for someone to give me a clue as to where exactly they are at?

Generally they will show up in their exact marker. Before running off to the marker, look at the hunt details and see if it shows up at night, day time, or anytime.

For me, I'm enjoying the game a bit more after the end of the first chapter. That opening really does not have a hook sadly and its easy to spend too much time in it for no reason. I would recommend new players use it to get used to the controls and move on asap. Also the opening of the second chapter really got me because I had Aerith theme playing in the car before and having that qued up made it more emotional than it might have been other wise haha.

Still not sold on the combat though. Like others said its a bit too chaotic but not in the best way. I know its their first stab at going for a character action game style combat, but it leaves a lot to be desired if you are a fan of Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden and what not like I am. Not enjoying getting hit from all directions and barely if at all able to notice them since the enemies are not telegraphing in a significant way.

That aside I'm looking forward to the rest of the game and realizing I need to move on in some spots faster than hanging around.

Though I am worried about missing accessories and weapons lol. Already found the Bioblaster, is there anything to miss in chapter 2/3?

I can agree to that. I get that the nature of the world and the theme of fantasy based on reality just kind of leads to the game not having wildly creative locales like previous titles. I just hit Duscae and I can tell immediately how much better it is visually so I mean I'm not bored with it, but there is this unshakable sense of "been there done that." I want to play a lot more first before totally writing it off, but going from Leide which I do find very bland to an extremely familiar place just isn't doing it for me.

That being said, it's way better and there's more fantastical sights and I actually personally have no problem with how the story is handled so far. I get that the aim was to make the player feel in the dark just like the characters, it's a lot like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and I mean a lot-- it's practically the same thing with the characters being on the run, tracked, hearing secondhand information through radio broadcasts and being on a journey to find a way to prevail despite incredibly overwhelming odds.

It actually works with the open world aspect and I dig it. Could it be handled better? Sure, and I can think of a number of ways I would have at least opened the game, but I have no major qualm with the story presentation so far. And if the conclusion is satisfying, all the merrier.

Yeah I am.

I don't seem to have an hunt for one at Hammerhead, I'm only rank 2 for hunting though.

Finally got Air dance.

Game changer, clearly. Game is virtually nothing alike anymore, gameplay wise, with this ability.

Still in chapter 3.

Game is fantastic.

Hm maybe I'm wrong, but I was convinced I read that somewhere. Anyway, if you just want the cactuar needle:
The easiest way to find the Cactuar Needle is to talk to the Tipster in the Meldacio Hunter Headquarters. The outpost is located north of Lestallum City. He will then give you the locations of nearby treasures. The treasure near the Risorath Basin will be a Cactuar Needle.

Ongoing!

I don't mean to say it's a dumb question, but uh, okay, this seemed really obvious to me. Why would they punish you like that? Haha

I don't know, but I hope it never gets old. I don't think it will. Warp striking feels so goooooood
Nope it was definitely a dumb question. Thanks anyway tho :)

On the last chapter but I'm going to go back and do some of the extra stuff before hitting that up and get a few more levels. Would like to be lvl 60 by then. I need to find these hidden dungeons though. There a list or mapping of them?

Possobile without spoilers, but do Royal Arms never not hurt you?

I want to use them, but the hit I take to my HP is stupid. I find it hard to use them because shop items are better and they don't hurt you.

What I'm asking essentially is what are the point of royal arms?

Walking through Galdin Quay at night...

Prompto:
This place is so... romantic!
Gladio:
And you get to enjoy it with us.
Noctis:
All three of us...
Ignis:
You, are a lucky man.

Nowhere close to knowing this (only on Ch. 3), but they feel like late-game stuff, because by then you'd presumably have the HP, skills, accessories, etc. to help mitigate the cost as much as possible. But yea, currently I'm staying far away from them.

My gf has been watching my "FFXV saga" on and off, and I can tell that she's secretly into it. She'd never admit it as every FF I've played around her had her frequently rolling her eyes especially XIII, but she caught the second half of Kingsglaive and started asking questions. Then she watched the entirety of Brotherhood and kept saying "that was a great episode." Especially the Prompto one, which IMO had fucking amazing character development.

I hit a scene earlier where Cid was reminiscing about
Regis, calling him Reggie
, and I heard her go "aww..." lol. So I think on that front and it could be anecdotal as fuck, but I think they've definitely made something here far more accessible, hence the "for fans and first-timers" thing when you start it.

She also commented on how cool she thinks Nyx and Noctis are, she likes Luna a lot, and I think she may be legitimately in love with Prompto. But I'll let it slide.

Kingsglaive/slight character spoilers:

Are Libertus or Galahd in the game?

Oh I gotta say, that scene definitely worked for me. Wish I could look up FFXV videos on YouTube without risking a death by spoilers because I really want to give it another watch

Cool she's into it by the way. I do feel like XV's cast is way more accessible to newcomers compared to something like X or XIII, anime characters or not. They're all easy to grasp and people might shit on the boyband look and the dressing all black, but I feel like those character designs alone are far more accessible than what you'd get in those games, especially X. That game does NOT have an approachable aesthetic.

You know, I'm pretty far in to the game, but I'm still confused by hard lock. Just recently switched to controller type C after over 20 hrs. I seemed to get it before by clicking R3 after locking on with L1 but can't seem to get it now! Anybody know?

I know a lot of people complain about the pacing of the story early on and how the invasion of Insomnia was handled but all of it REALLY worked for me. The scene with Cid at the start of chapter 2 was the icing on the cake.

L1 + R1.

It's a fantastic scene. I'm gonna have problems with this game when all is said and done, but I really feel as though they've did an admirable job at trying to make this one and the series itself more relevant to the modern age. I can't say that I'd want another one with more "earthly" environments like this but that's a personal taste.

Thing is, if you say redid the opening areas of FFVIII, the plains outside Balamb Garden, the seaside town... it wouldn't be too much different. But then VIII had crazy shit like Esthar, Lunatic Pandora, the castle, etc. I just wish this game were a little more batshit with its art direction but that's my only quibble.

Um I found an item but it's placed on top of a container and I have no clue how to get up there lmao. There's nothing to climb up nearby. Weird.

How should I go about my ascension? Any tips on what I should focus on?

Ignis' technique Regroup for starters. The exploration grid has stuff that give you AP for camping and long drives are another option. Blink is also essential, as is Airstride and Airslip. I'm not that far in, but those stood out to me.

Really debating on picking this up. How big is the game world?

You shouldn't be disappointed with the size, that's what she said etc etc

The scope is massive.

BTW they fuckin need to do a patch where the world exploration music plays nonstop or at least provide an option.
