This has probably been asked a ton, but why can I sometimes fastravel for a cost of 10gil, and other times I need to travel in real time? I'd like to fast travel more, but it's almost never an option =/

There needs to be a law passed that southern accents are just now allowed in video games. It feels borderline offensive when Cindy says purrty like she watched Deliverance one too many times.

Well, you do have a purty mouth. So...

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Even though I still have Sun and Moon I couldn't resist this---like three hours left to install everything though.

Haven't really paid much attention to this game so I'm basically going in blind. I really enjoy Final Fantasy X and XII, how much will I enjoy this then?

Okay, I'm only a few hours in but so far I'm really impressed by how they've managed to salvage that clunky, unresponsive, almost unplayable mess of a battle system from the Platinum Demo. The combat is surprisingly fun and addicting. I'm having a blast just going around doing hunts and jumping into random battles.

And I guess that you're not actually able to manually take photos with Prompto's camera? He just does it on his own?

Pretty sure he has a technique that does exactly that, where he uses up a tech bar to take a photo; look for it in the skill tree. May not be exactly what you're looking for, but it's probably your closest bet.

The best get out of jail free card I've found is Ignis' regroup skill. Costs 2 bars but it heals all party members' hp by about 25-30% and pulls everyone out of danger mode immediately. You can even use it to "evade" big attacks because the animation is long and invincible. As long as you invest in the tech tree skills that give you tech bar for when Noctis attacks/takes damage, you'll almost always have it ready to go.

This has probably been asked a ton, but why can I sometimes fastravel for a cost of 10gil, and other times I need to travel in real time? I'd like to fast travel more, but it's almost never an option =/
If you try to fast travel by quest often it won't give you the option, even though selecting the same location using travel by parking spot will have fast travel. It's dumb and not implemented well.

It's quite good but it's also very inconsistent. While Pokemon is a pretty consistent experience, FFXV can be all over the place. The combat can be very fun but the leveling kinda breaks some moments. If you loved monster Hunts in XII, this is a pretty great game. If you like the Story of X, it's quite a bit problematic in its presentation and plotting and the localization falls short of XII's standard.

I actively despise this game right now. Please, I'm begging you - explain to me why I'm fucking retarded and can't seem to understand this combat system. Please. Because I'm this close to throwing my $300 UCE into a closet and never touching it again.

I haven't been this mad playing a game in ages, and I'm four hours in.

I posted yesterday:

I'm level 13/12/12/12.

I just took the "Red in Tooth and Claw" Hunt from the Chocobo farmer. It's the first quest I've embarked on in Ch. 3.

There are 9 things I have to kill across the street. I've attempted 10 times and have only defeated one on one occasion.

I did wait mode. Beyond not having a fucking clue as to what the botton prompts are doing - I realize they're weak against ice and javelins. Orange icons. So I equip a x3 blizzard spell and Drain Lance.

No matter how much fighting I do, I die in like 3 hits. And with nine fucking enemies bouncing over the screen, I can't avoid getting hit. I try holding square. I get fucked.

I try one at a time. I get fucked.

I try sneaking around. I get fucked.

I'm burning through Hi Potions. I'm trying to warp - but a warp just gets me in between five enemies and I get fucked.

Half the times I hit square when prompted to dodge/parry, I get hit anyway.

Seriously, everyone just keeps saying "take your time," or "go one at at time."

HOW? I attack one, and they all INSTANTLY come and shove my shit in.

I want to enjoy the game... but this is infuriating.

I'm begging for help here.

Yeah don't feel bad I was like level 20 or so when I did that one and I remember it being unusually hard for some reason. Some of those hunt mobs are way stronger than the regular versions.

Yeah it's in the exploration tree, called Snapshot. You equip it as his technique and then activate it during battle and he'll take a snap. You can upgrade it with the node next to it and sometimes you'll gain AP when he does it.

Tap square to roll away in the direction you want.

Safest way to create space in large swarms of enemies.

Relying on the block button with large swarms will quickly deplete your mp,& so you enter stasis and die.

Also use warp points fequently, get a hit then roll away until you get a chance to spread the enemies out.

Hope that works for you.

…

Go to a camp site and select training. This will give you the chance to practice in one on one with a very easy enemy that telegraphs everything massively. Keep doing the training fights as they start to get slightly harder.

With the dog like creatures try not to be in the centre of the pack (same for the soldiers), warp strike in get a few hits down (targeted warp), warp out (untargeted warp). rinse and repeat keeping an eye on MP, when you are use to their movements just use timings of dodge and attack. If there are warp points use them.

If you see block prompt come up, hold block, don't move and get ready to hit attack when the prompt appears.

If you can aim for the backs do but not always possible with fast enemies. Use ally commands often as the meter builds quickly and you will usually be given a prompt to trigger at the end.

I haven't mastered how to use summons yet, the prompt appears for me at times but pressing it doesn't always work. Armiger I haven't fully got a hang of yet either though it is fun.

I wouldn't bother about weaknesses and strengths or magic until you get to grips with your timings and the warp basics.

what's the deal with the screen size? for some reason on the tutorial I can adjust the screen to fit in the command prompts and they get cut off but for some reason I can't find the option to change it?

I don't. It's an older hdtv unfortunately. Plus some people claimed scanning did nothing. I would hope SE at least acknowledge what seems to be a problem for a lot of people.

I really don't mean to be rude here but if it did nothing for them I can assure you that's on their TV, XV isn't doing something weird or anything.

Don't get me wrong, I hope SE patches in a solution for you guys, it's not unheard of, but surely you've been facing this problem with a lot of modern games? It's not like XV places the HUD completely up to the edges of the image either. I imagine you must have been pretty lucky if other games all used your PS4 OS's settings

Don't even bother normal attacking much when they're all alive. Just keep holding square/or just moving away from them to create space and make sure you abuse parrying + skills to do damage without leaving yourself open.

Question about hunts. Am I supposed to keep roaming the area where it tells me they will be at and they just spawn? Or am I supposed to stick around a town and listen for someone to give me a clue as to where exactly they are at?

god I fucking hate AI teammates. Getting hit by a fucking behemoth without dodging shit seems like such a good idea...just solod a level 15 behemoth at level 11 since my teammates are worthless other than popping link techniques

Sometimes you have to hold the Block/Evade a little after pressing.

I've had times where it just wasn't responding even though I was definitely holding the button and even parrys wouldn't come out sometimes.

I also had Blink at the time and that helped a lot.

I was level 12 at the time and just used Fira and the Drain Spear.

I don't think there is one yet. I have the same problem. The last half of the command prompts are cut off so I end up making educated guesses to what they want me to do. Frustrating.

I beat it at level 15, use Armiger and use their techs don't try to go in crazy with Noctis. Prompto's piercer works well, and I used Ignis' Mark ability as well.

Going mainly through the story today. I'm level 23 in chapter 3 lol. Guess I just enjoy the combat and hunts so much I kinda got carried away. Got a nice stock of hi-elixirs, those things almost make me feel like I'm cheating :)

Almost got my ass handed to me driving at night to the town. Iron giant, magitek soldiers dropping down by the dozen, crazy.

Sounds like you're underleveled for the hunt.

What would help is using your techniques from your party to assist you in dealing damage to hunts. Additionally, giving you and your party accessories is a huge help. Maybe spend some points in the Ascension Grid if you haven't.

Are you never able to parry while in the air? I feel like lacking that ability really hurts the viability of aerial combat, which is a shame cause it feels good to perform consecutive airsteps otherwise.

I'm in Chapter 8 and having a lot of fun with the game so far. It feels very messy and disjointed at times, and there are some parts I definitely don't like. But at the same time I appreciate a lot about it, like how unique the combat system is. I can't think of any other game that plays quite like this one.

Theres skill a tree that gives you mp for every hit connected plus special swords that reduce the penalty, you stay up for good awhile

Theres a skill that allows you to air dodge at the most but no parry attack follow up

Have you been leveling up (ascension) and buying new armor and weapons?

I'm not, but now I have a reason to be :D

Hahaha! Good to know.

Does the game punish you for attempting higher than your level hunts ?

Already did two hunts underleveled, got pitiful amounts of experience.Or is it based on the amount of time you take to complete a fight ?

I got way more experience for quest spoiler
helping a cat -_-

Hunts are more for challenge and for items/gil. MQ and SQ are more for EXP

Played all day before work. I love it. My only complaint is battles feel overly chaotic, especially when my party is suddenly decimated while I'm doing just fine. I don't really feel like I'm in control.

This is one reason I switched to Wait mode. Being able to pause and survey battle has helped me a ton on multiple occasions.

I'll look out for that next then. Currently I have about 230ish AP, so I'm getting there lol

Hopefully it doesn't cost too much...

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
I just found out that there are 50% XP boost food.

How do these work? Can I use them just before camping and get 50% XP bonus on the massive XP gains that I've got? Can I do that with quest rewards as well, I mean, me taking the buff just as I turn in a bunch of quests?

I'm in Chapter 2, and I was doing a side quest searching for something, and I just couldn't find it, but I was also getting attacked by Magitek troopers every 30 seconds. When I finally rested, I went from lvl 5 to 13. LOL

Um, yeah, I think I'm overleveled now.
