Do you accumulate XP and it gets distributed to your characters when you are at an in or camp? Can you lose all of the XP you have gained if you die?

I'm laughing at them putting this level 5 quest item right outside a level 57 dungeon. I screamed when that samurai thing just swiped through me and I was one-shotted to the bottom of the mines. Just terrifying.

lol just like the old FF's where you can explore then can encounter something that your party cannot handle.

or ffxii's "noob killing" dinosaur right in the first area, if anyone remembers that.

Yeah it's bad. I can't excuse the narrative in this game.

While I find things like this disappointing, I'm really enjoying the narrative so far.

What point are you at? I'm early c5. Did you have these issues from the beginning of the game to where I am, or did they develop later?

I ask because I'm curious how my opinion will change as I progress. Perhaps you and I have different tastes, or perhaps I'll begin to feel the flaws more later in the game.

I'm on chapter 13 and have had issues with the narrative direction of the overall plot since the beginning.

I'm having a blast but this is so disappointing because the world lore and plot seem like they are so good but some of these events just give you a solid case of blue balls with wanting more. I know the obvious answer is they probably just ran out of time but they need to find a healthy balance in the future and put in some of XIII's cinematic approach.

That being said.. I'm greatly enjoying the freedom that the story gives you. Gameplay is so solid for me.

If you pay attention to combos you'll notice there are specific points you can freely break to enter defense state. You need to learn these and decide if you have time to commit to an attack or defend.

When the square appears, always hold square until you either get hit or it disappears (enemies can be killed/interrupted by party members while on their way to attack you).

It's a weird battle system, but imo it's a fluid and highly enjoyable one. I can understand it being divisive though, it definitely plays with certain rules/standards we might be used to.

Hopefully it will click with you at some point.

what i would advise is to spar with gladio and ignis. really get a feel for noctis's animtions.

Ok, cool. I'm hopeful that I'll continue to enjoy it as I progress then. It seems we have different tastes here.

I'm sorry you're not enjoying it as much as I am.

Except that part isn't nonsense as it's clearly explained
the chancellor has his own ideas and his actions in aiding the group show he has his own agenda.

I mean, you can dislike the story but this part is very clearly explained and shown.
Nah, theres a reason we're all making fun of it. This plot is thinly connected and it's full of contrivances and warps around as it needs.
It's nonsensical- he has no reason to help them and take their
car__
without you trying you best to make it work in some contrived way. It adds nothing to the story besides gameplay time.

Then we hunt after something becaude we're offhad told to. It feels like they ahd these ideas and were awful at connecting them?

Fuck it, going to go farm for the item I need to get Ultima Weapon, even though I'm only on Chapter 4 or so. Engine Blade III is already pretty damn great on it's own, especially if you equip the Kings weapons for the stat boosts.

When do i get to come back to the first area after
getting on the ferry
in chapter one

Going back won't be an issue, so to speak.

If anyone ever has an issue where link strikes never happen, just fully restart the console. Seemed to fix it up for me.

I have only fished at a few spots so far, but it can be pretty fun and a bit stressful when catching some of the rarer fish.

It works pretty well. The mechanics are easy to understand but they are more on the shallow side in terms of depth so don't expect much of a challenge (of course I'm still early in the game so who knows, maybe you start catching Leviathans or something). All in all I'd say it's a rather nice way to pass the time.

Thanks, guys. I have always loved fishing in games when done right, so it's good to hear that it can be a fun thing to do on the side. One more thing to look forward to.

He didn't
take their car, the empire did. He was acting under his own agend separately.

This much is very clear, not only does an early cutscene show him telling the emperor that there are benefits to keeping Noctis alive, but the previous few quests show him offering the group help that seemingly opposes the intent of the rest of the empire (the attacking troops).

It's not nonsensical at all, this part at least.

How do I use Techs above level 1? I've unlocked a few with the ascension tree but it seems only the level 1 set are available in combat?

Backside attacks on enemies and depending if one of the bros are nearby, it happens naturally you can't trigger it. Although, there's a friendship charm that increases such odds.

It happens if you pull off a successful counter and a team meter is close enough.

The charm allows links to activate at greater distance.

I'm in chapter
5
and right now there's a scene in the
past and gentiana is speaking to young Noctis in wheelchair
and the whole time the eyes are closed while speaking.

Is this a fucking glitch lol.

Just reply with a yes or no please.

Err if he has the power to
take Noct alive in the airship of the sworn enemy and drop him off, he can leave the car.

Wait, this doesn't fix the initial issue everyone has with it-- the
car being taken by the empire
is stupid and the whole section is contrived just to continue it. It's not something that should be there in any well written story. No one writing the story should've agreed to that basically.

Whoever designed costlemark tower needs to be fired.

yah i had horror stories with that dungeon.

1st time through i got trolled by the button on the floor, sending me to the exit after completing 2 "elevators" . then completed the dungeon, found a hunt going back there again.. . all elevators were active (i guess you were supposed to do them in a certain order) since the first time they were only active one at a time. then was realizing i was endlessly fighting 3 red giants and 2 snake monsters.

after 7 cycles of doing that, i noticed something was wrong, and found out that button "resets" the elevators so they are only active one at a time. then i was able to get thru, there are multiple paths and this time i paid attention to where on the map to go cuz i know i will come back here for the locked door, the path to the boss has a "[" or "c" shape

finally got that hunt done after being so lost, had over 150k of xp, since i was killing cycles of red giants.. . cashed that in at the quay, so being so lost wasn't all bad lol

I know this isn't my first time saying it, but it'd be tremendously nifty if some of the DLC added a few more cutscenes to the main game itself as well.

Niftier still if patches did it instead, but I'm trying to manage my somewhat unreasonable expectations.

How does the game decide when to analyse an enemy and when not ?

While you're locked on, Iggy will sometimes decide to scan using his ability. I think it's random but I might be wrong.

In wait mode you can trigger it yourself.

If it's true that you can't activate it manually in active battle mode then it's definitely an oversight in the design. They really should add it in.

I'm in chapter 5 and really loving the game. So curious to know about what happens in chapters
9
and
13
, as they are discussed a lot it seems. Hope to reach them soon and not be spoiled!

LMAO this
Jared
thing at the end of CH 5. This emotional moment is so unearned and unmoving.

And then the story is moved along by
a text-box on a loading screen?
Are you kidding me.

I could overlook it towards the beginning, but it's just getting more and more apparent.

I don't think so. It was the same for me. At least
her
eyes were closed for the most part.

Man it was great-- I was talking about it with a gaffer and he just lost it, he dazed off for 10s midcutscene and missed the entire reason they're sad.
They don't set this up at all and the emotional value isn't earned at all.

I don't know why you're having trouble here:

The group defeat Titan while the empire close in to use the opportunity to capture them.

Titan leaves after being defeated and the surrounding area begins to collapse. The group are stuck between this and the empire forces.

The chancellor swoops in and offers them an escape, acting seemingly on his own agenda and in opposition to the current object of the empire troops.

They quickly escape, but don't have time to take the car.

The empire find the car and impound it.

To me this is very easy to understand and not a moment in the story that fails to convey what's happening clearly, especially as it's been set up since the start that
the chancellor has either his own agenda (his constant aiding of the group) or the empire is baiting some kind of trap (the chancellor's insistence to the emperor that Noctis has more value alive)..

Not as bad as the text box on screen creating the next story push.

"shit the game is out next month and we forgot to put a cutscene here", " a text box will do".

Ughhhhhh.

Yeah it's bad. I can't excuse the narrative in this game.

I also love that the empire/Ardyn very politely seems to drop them off at the chocobo ranch, so they can do their dumb scouting mission to find the car, then lets them go AGAIN after they blow up their base to get the car back
