The four mains are so damn likeable. I was so apprehensive about their characters, but I needn't have worried - they come across as a genuinely tight-knit group of friends, and there are so many little moments between them that are easily missed.

Also, Square-Enix is clearly targeting a certain section of the fanbase, judging by exchanges like this:

Prompto: Wow, this place is so romantic!
Gladio: And you get to experience it with us.
Ignis: All three of us.
Noctis: You're one lucky guy.

Not that I'm complaining XD

At this point, I don't really care if the story turns out to be underwhelming, since I'm having a blast just riding around and exploring the world. This definitely isn't the FF I'm used to, but dare I say it, it makes for a nice change.

I do have some issues, although I'll leave those for a time when I'm not feeling completely enamoured with the game.

I am having a hard time deciding between Physical or Digital for this. I have some reward certs that would make it cheap at gamestop.

but my pro is silent while playing digital games.

I always go digital. Nothing beats the silence like you said. And I imagine like me you are going to want to be immersed with as little distractions as possible.

Personally didn't like anything in FF13 apart from the combat. But the battle system was THAT GOOD that I finished it based on how much fun the battles were. Which is crazy because pre release "what? You only control one character!?! " then first few fights basically are auto play. It was amazing how incredible the system became after a few hours.

I agree one of the reasons why I stuck with FF13 as well.I felt the combat was just too fun to put the game down.

lol indeed at the dungeons in this game...or dungeon in my case as I only went in one so far!
the mine

I went in expecting something out of Elder Scrolls or Dragon Age (so kind of easy) and ended up in a old school gaming style dungeon in terms of complexity and
where I was totally outta my league after a bit
and had to escape

I own a digital copy as well I am picking up my physical tomorrow. I got my physical pretty much for free so I did not mine double dipping with the digital.

HOLY CRAP! You actually CAN buy a device which lets you play all previous OSTs by walking. That shit is insane.
FFXV Soundtrack is amazing, but walking thorugh Lestallum while Spira Unpplugged is playing is something else.

Ended up cancelling my Amazon order and buying it on PSN.

I guess I should watch the movie and series while I wait for the unlock.

Uh oh

Amazon is showing Tuesday, but I bring up the tracking number in UPS and they say Wednesday. I took a day off. Gonna be bummed if it doesn't work out.

Yeah, this would piss me off beyond belief. I don't have a tracking number, still says shipping today and arriving tomorrow.

Yeah, there was no livestream. There was some miscommunication over a 'live feed' which someone in the chain took to mean streaming to the internet but it was more camera feeds from inside the theatre being fed to the hall outside the cinema.

Bits and pieces of the launch are popping up on twitter/fb but I don't think there's been any start-to-end capture that I'm aware of.

We did show stuff like this: https://www.facebook.com/PCMagSEA/posts/984709824967115

A brief rundown of what I talked about:
Footage of the recording of Main Theme of FF, XV version
My personal involvement/my company's involvement in the music of FFXV
Brief introduction of SoundtRec and Video Game Orchestra
Our working relationship with Square Enix
Talking about the music of Final Fantasy and its importance to the franchise' identity
Talking about the music of FFXV, shoutouts out the wazoo to all the people involved
Some examples of dynamic switching systems for music
Talking about how series staples were honored vs the new systems e.g. how the SNES bassline for battle themes evolved into the 'alert' state before entering combat
Talking about the car radio

I nearly cried while talking about the music of the franchise as a whole, lol

Just curious, are you at liberty to say what level of involvement you had in the OST yet? Like I know you were working on it but I've not really got any idea to what degree. Sorry if it sounds like I'm prying, just rather interested since FF OST's are some of my favorite, if not all time favorite pieces.

So... say someone has only played FFXIV and WoFF besides owning several FF games... What should they know going in?
(asking for a friend)

Niiiiice! I'll have to get one myself, I have long disliked strategy guides in general (not so much the concept of a strategy guide so much as just the poor quality of them for a long time running), but I grabbed the Piggyback guide for Dark Souls 1 when I was a struggling new player to the franchise way back in 2011 and it made me adore Piggyback guides in general... I imagine this one is probably laid out and written quite superbly given my positive experience with their Dark Souls and Bloodborne guides. Granted, both of those guides now feature a lot of outdated information due to game patches, but I don't see FFXV shifting too much in terms of radical changes -- maybe content additions (especially with season pass content) but not quite in the existing game's overall form.

Got one yesterday for ~$13 with amazon's code HOLIDAYBOOK. Not sure if it's still working.

WHOOP WHOOP

strategy guide came in already! Now all that's left is FedEx tomorrow for the game!!

Final Fantasy has always had weak dungeons, so it's really cool that the dungeons in this game are quite complex and a challenge.

So what's the verdict on the "openness" and size of the map? The map images I have seen are massive, are they accurate? Is it fully open world, like The Witcher 3, where you can explore the whole thing? Are there invisible walls that keep you contained to a smaller area?

I won't get the game until tomorrow at best but the reviews got me pumped so I just watched Kingsglaive. Based on what I had heard I was expecting a fairly mediocre but pretty movie but I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. As predicted, it is stunning visually and the fight scenes are incredible but I quite liked the story and characters too. I thought it was a very touching drama and a really good film overall. The english voice cast was really solid as well.

The only thing that might be puzzling to non FF fans is the completely random and unexplained appearance of mothefuckin
Ultros
in the middle of the film. It was hilarious but made no sense at all within the film.

One question: at the beginning of the film, they talk about Noctis being sick as a child but they don't really expand on that, is that adressed somewhere else aside from FFXV proper?

Preload is about to finish in less than an hour! To anyone who has played the game on the Pro already: which mode would you suggest I play on? 60fps or the one with graphical features/enhancements?

Have fun, GAF!

Not sure if anyone knows, but the FFXV demo is available on the PS Store for US. 🙂

OK, so.

The demo in the US PSN is Platinum Demo, and only the last bit of it is in the actual game. The rest is a tech demo from existing assets.

Judgment Demo from the JP PSN is Chapter 1 of the final game, but in Japanese only.

Barely 2 hours in and a glitch has already made me sick of the driving.

I set the car to auto drive to a quest location and the sun started setting along the way.

We happened to be near a camping spot on the side of the road and Prompto asked if we should rest for the night - I chose yes in response to the prompt. Despite that Ignis drives past the rest spot anyways, night falls, and now all of the car controls (u-turn, navigation, get off, etc.) are all grayed out and all I can do is let him finish the drive. What happens next is Ignis drives ALL the way to the destination, THEN does a U-turn and starts heading back. At this point I'm like "ok, I guess he's heading back towards the rest point", but instead he drives ALL the way back to the town where we started the drive from.

The entire time the car controls were grayed out and all I could do was literally wait and watch while the stupid auto pathing drove us an entire round trip. Even if Conan was joking, the driving has been an absolute waste of my time so far.

How come Amazon support just can't give you a straight answer sometimes. I know its a preorder! I just want to know if its still shipping today or not.

OK, i broke down and sold a few things to afford to pick it up now instead of after the holidays. Pre-ordered on PSN and downloading now.

... Might skip class tomorrow to play, we'll see.
