I cannot, for the LIFE of me, understand why Tabata and co. stuck with HOLDING buttons to attack.
I love the game so far. Still beginning of Chapter 2. The game is more than the sum of its parts for sure.
But the combat... Like, why? I love the warping... It feels good. I try ignoring holding a button for combos but for some weapons I just think that flat-out does not work. Idk. There's one 2-handed weapon in particular where it RANDOMLY has Noctis stay in a charging animation for like 5 seconds and I have like no control. In Duscae I remember Noctis having abilities he could use and he would scroll through it like a menu. Is that completely gone? I thought that was cool.
I also don't like how almost constantly I link up with party members and I'm just like "oh, okay cool, not sure what I did to trigger that but cool thank you." I feel like I don't have that much control over what goes on in battles, which is annoying. I know most of this is probably my fault, though some of it most likely isn't.
I still need to figure out how to properly roll and dodge, still need to get comfortable with the lock-on, and I guess I need to accept the automation of the battle system.
Again, scenes from outside the main group's pov are fine. The content of those scenes being poorly placed or written is another thing entirely.
Yep and I can bet that joke doesn't exist in Japanese version because it just wouldn't sound the same cause the joke expression regarding "skipping leg day" is sort of exclusive to English.LOool noctis' joke about.titan not missing leg day
The humor between the four is something im thankful they got right.
Is the Amazon road trip DLC stuff any good? Just got codes for them.
So I reached Altissia and it was beautiful. But as happy as I was with its finished state I couldn't help but be saddened too. Passing those gates was the first time I realized how close they were to actually pulling this off.
Minor open world map spoilers ahead
But from there all it would take was a few more Lestallum likes spread around and some more attention to the quests and main story implementation. All they needed was another explorable area that side of the world to truly blow some minds. If they'd cut down the size of the main map and spread it between Altissia and Tenabrae too would have been ideal.
Essentially hitting Altissia made me realize that 1 or 2 more years would have truly made this one for the history books, but at the same time it gives me hope that an FFXVI without a troubled development process may deliver an FF to rival the oldies. I just wish this had been the one to do it.
Still loving it though 10 chapters in.

Just watched a youtube vid explaining the combos and I'm super stoked that the whole "release button, then press for finisher" feature is still in from duscae. That ability to stop and control a powerful finishing strike really makes it feel like a good mix of proper action and slower strategic planning/movement.
There's honestly no excuse for putting such important content in Brotherhood and Kingsglaive, but I'm glad it at least exists and that I watched both before playing. They seem absolutely essential, and I can't believe they didn't at the very least bundle them with every copy.
Ermmm, getting something to eat and the game has just cut to a black screen and hasn't budged. Oh no :/
Even watching that stuff doesn't help. It only helps for chapter 1 and for one story moment in the later chapter. Brotherhood has no impact on the story at all. That one is a true companion piece cause you don't need it unless you want to get a few references here and there. The story is just not told well, doesn't matter if KG existed or not.
Final chapter...I'm getting wrecked by normal mobs. I'm level 49. Is that too low?
Chapter 13being a corridor extravaganza had to be a cognizant meta joke by the dev team

Enjoy! So this is gonna be my first FF ever. Just finished watching Kingsglaive, which was surprisingly good, and just finished installing the game. Wish me luck!
When you sleep at any rest point, you will get the option. Can anybody tell me how toget back to the open world after chapter 8-9 my gf was talking during the god chicks explanation

Can't wait for chapter 13. Can't be half as bad as y'all claim.

That's been the impressions I'm hearing from some friends who did watch it.
And the thing is, the opening wasn't inherently flawed or anything. They really just needed a well written opening hour or so that was story heavy and introduced each character plainly. No need for very fancy stuff, just 5-10 minutes per bro + Noctis and Regis.
No switch constantly between hard and soft lock on
Might wanna lower your expectations abit for the rest of the game.
So you're saying it's fine even if it's not consistently done the same way? So if it's not consistent then it wasn't a design decision to tell it from the same perspective, either that or they fucked up repeatedly.
What you were initially arguing was that they were going for 'atmospheric' storytelling from the gang's perspective. However the game repeatedly relies on cutscenes that aren't from the perspective of the lead four.
We're not getting the same information as Noctis or his friends. We're given a lot more and usually earlier than the main characters. A lot of the gaps in the storytelling aren't some brilliant design decision but rather the script being a godawful mess.
This happens during status effects like poison is green glow. I don't remember the effect for blue glow.Anyone know why my Ignis is glowing like this? I can't figure out why, it doesn't have anything to do with his equipment.
It excels both of them in my opinion. Tons of secret bosses and cool dungeons.FFX and FXII had amazing post game content. I hope FFXV delivers on that too.

Just sleep at any rest point like inn or motel and you get the option to call umbra.Does anyone know how to get back to the open world.
Oh you innocent child...
It's not BAAAAAAAAD. But it is bad.
You can make fire that heals you >.> try throwing a potion into the magic creation mixIs there curative magic? It feels weird relying on potions. I'm still trying to get used to the regenative health too.
At camping spots you can choose "training mode"Is there any way to just practice combat with a dummy? I want to experiment, but that's kind of hard with the normal mobs in the early game.
It's not that it's bad...it just tries something different. I actually enjoyed it.
Use a potion when crafting magic for curative effects. Applies to all types of consumables. Is there curative magic? It feels weird relying on potions. I'm still trying to get used to the regenative health too.
I wonder how this thread will be turn out once a majority start to reach the end

It's absolutely fine. They chose to deliver most of the exposition via exploration and interactions on a party level to aid in the sense of camaraderie, and some of it via outside perspectives. There's nothing wrong with this design choice by default.
