So, I just watched the first Brotherhood episode, but I'm really wanting to dive into the game, am I missing much if I watch the rest (and Kingsglaive) intermittently while playing the first 10 hours or so?

That's a good way to do it actually. I suggest watching Kingsglaive right after completing Chapter 1, since that's kinda when the film takes place.

Brotherhood is weird in that some events happen concurrently with the game, but don't happen in the game so I'm not sure how to take it in canon (like the reveal happens differently in Brotherhood if I recall right). That said the bigger focus is on characters backstory. You probably won't miss out too much in the grand scope of things.

Kingsglaive is much more important.

Are those random imperial soldiers based on your level, the chapter you are or just random level? I keep getting lvl 47 enemies from the ships ;(

I thought it was based on chapter.

I did a load of quests in Chapter 3 but they were always 16. Now on Chapter 4, they seem to be 18.

That said, they do sometimes drop a random level 50 odd mech. -.-

Ehhh. More on Chapter 10
Yeah Gladio is being really unlikable this chapter and that's due to Iggy going blind offscreen so there's no context and Gladio bitching the whole way as if Noctis made him go blind.

Oh god everything in Duscae is killing me. I guess the game really expects you to go straight to Lestallum instead of exploring first.

Though I did run into a Cactuar and got 6000 exp for killing it so that should help.

So I did side-quests for three hours so I could just plow through the main story after. And I've gone from 2k gil to over 40k and from 100xp waiting to over 37k lmao.

The story is becoming a bigger and bigger mess every chapter.

Also on paper the open world first half and linear second half sounded good to me but in reality I'm not enjoying it at all. Just feels like 2 completely different games put together.

Is there a list of where all the "Tours" are somewhere? Like which camps you should rest at? I've only found two so far. Not even sure how many there are in the game.

Chapter 8 already. It's weird how little side content I am doing outside of few select chapters. Most feel like they are best suited for linear progression with some mild side tracking.

I got the Immortal Photobomb trophy but i looked and inspected every single pic I had when the trophy popped and I didn't see
Gentiana
in any of them. Weird.

Blaster? Always had it in the old games too lol.

I'm fully aware of that.

However

a) Wasn't always Insta Kill, it could miss, or do something else. Like I remember X and VIII it could petrify instead.
b) Noctis dying means game over unless you act quick enough, unlike other games. The only exception being XIII but Coeurls weren't in that game as far as I remember. Much larger punishment.
c) Phoenix Downs can be quite dear if you aren't doing a lot of the side content, in comparison to other FInal Fantasy games as most other games were more kind with gil. (Besides XII which had the same money system as XV)

I dunno, I think they're rather strong enemies in general for their level. Especially when you consider there's a level 34 hunt to kill 5 of them. Yeah, good luck doing that at level 34! :p

Which stage are you at?

I can't for the life of me get that damn horn.
That is where I am. I saved right by Duplicorns in bounty, put difficulty on Easy, and have broken their horns at least 30 times. Going fucking crazy. Reload, repeat and fail, load to do again.

I GOT ONE! WOOOOO

Just played chapters 10, 11, and some of 12. Easily the best the game has been so far. The whole game should have been like this. Also the storytelling is suddenly consistent, the set pieces good, level design solid... Everything has been bumped up a notch in quality.

I suspect this section is something they were just able to pull from versus 13 without having to change everything. The seams just don't show here like they do in the rest of the game.

that puzzling face
Anyone else getting a camera bug mid gameplay where it stops rotating?

I had it happen earlier today. Couldn't rotate the camera until I got into another battle and an enemy did a strong attack which forced the camera to budge.

Had that in
Ch8

Needless to say, considering it was
one big dungeon with lots of daemons, that wasn't funt

YIKES!! Eehh... Camping under the stars doesn't sound do bad...

I feel like the idea here is you'd only want to use it after farming up a few truckloads, in which case you'd be swimming either in hunt rewards or drop sales anyway.

Is there any way to see all of the combat tips/rules/etc that the game glosses over briefly once? I feel like I only half-paid attention to a lot of the tutorials in the beginning, and now at level 15 I'm getting destroyed by the massive groups of level 16 soldiers/mechs that drop constantly. Prompto is dead within seconds every time, and even when he's up his health never seems to rise beyond around the halfway point between battles. There's so much going on when the battles are that large that I can tell what's happening any given second, and suddenly 3/4 of the team is in danger. I'm looking for some decent explanation of all the systems in play, basically.

I really liked those chapters as well.

I have had this for a few days now......

Still not sure I want to open it. I haven't played a Final Fantasy game since FF8.

I watched Kingsglaive and liked it, I watched the anime and loved it. I would love to dive into something that feels like a part of that world, but I want it to be meaningful and emotional.

Should I open it up or wait for a sale?

I know Kotaku said "if this isn't a final fantasy game then I dont know what is" but do others here feel that way too? Is this a final fantasy game worth having?

So I'm just starting out with the car... I thought they were supposed to talk during the drives?

Just a question early game.. chapter 2 or 3 can't remember. No story spoilers but I just wanna be careful so I'll spoiler tag it even though its mostly about the combat system.
I'm level 20-21 and just met Iris, I'm supposed to go to the tomb behind the water fall but there are a few enemies in front of it, I think they were crabs. THey're only level 18 and I believe I have the best equipment I can find but they completely destroy me. Am I missing something and doing something wrong? My entire party dies before we can kill even 1 of them. =\

I'd say there's enough interesting things going on that it's worth a play.
Don't expect all story all the time though.

I skipped the tutorial. Got ten times better when I went back and did it in full. Also, I prioritized strength way too much early on. I started stacking defensive/vitality items on team and it helped. Finally, I thought Wait would suck for combat mode, but it is fantastic. It only kicks in when you stand still, and gives you easy use of libra to get your enemies weaknesses understood. Oh...and magic is damn strong. I didn't use it at all at first. Once I got familiar with it, I did much better.

Need some help. In Chapter 2
when you're in the second tomb if you finish that quest will the chapter turn over and tally all your EXP? I have quite a bit saved up and would rather use it at the hotel than just regular.

In other news I'm truly running out of normal sidequests now

Got the "Weaving a Tapestry" silver Trophy for 80 sidequests and am currenlty in chapter 8

Also reached hunter rank 6 and currently at 10 royals arms found, I'm guessing the rest of them will be through story...

Also damn
Costlemark Tower
had some really hard parts even for me at lv70 ....

I dont agree.

I love how angry everyone is after the events of chapter 9. THIS is the weight of the stroy Ive wanted so badly the whole game. LOVING it! Loved chapter 11 too!!! Im on 12 now, REALLY liking this turn of events!

Tomb question:
As far as those locked doors go that I find at the end near the arms, how do I get in? Is it a post game thing?

Struggle with hunts even if they're level 19 and I'm 24

Those mindflayer type enemies, yeesh. Must remember to equip anti-confusion gear next time

Is Gladiolus a bit overpowered?

He seems to be able to survive basically anything. Helps my retreats a lot when he's singlehandedly fighting a crowd of enemies lol

It's okay if there's no story ALL the time as long as there is some sort of underlying emotional/sentimental drive to everything.
