FFXV could have done with another half year of dev to flesh out a lot of things
Then again, they should've gone back to the drawing board on many aspects, so I'm not sure time would have saved this games major flaws.
I just had a mission to find traps. I walked around for like 10 minutes, the other characters kept telling me to look at fucking nothing. I restarted the ps4 and I could see them, so maybe just reset?
Just had the Prompto motel scene. God I love Prompto. Need to see if alternate dialogue choices are on YouTube though.
On Chapter 3 too, I just can't get a handle on the combat. I'm level 12 with everyone but doing a level 12 quest is impossible for me. I really don't want to bump it down to easy but it's getting tempting. I don't normally play FF games, I'm more of a FPS person but thought this game looked interesting. I would love to play straight through the story with no side quests but I need to just to progress.
Petition to fire anyone who worked on Costlemark without objecting to the design.

Sorry, as a software engineer this sounds really funny to me. My team is depressed too, can we turn in lower quality/volume work for awhile until we feel better about ourselves?
Edit: I bet Konami don't give a fuck about your team depression. If you're sad you work in a separate room and communicate with your team through a morale interpreter!
So which one of these guys is a healer? I can't be spending money on Elixirs and Phoenix Down all the time. Is there even a healer? Money is so hard to come by without doing a million hunting quests.

Grab Ignis's "Regroup" technique and spam it every time you hit 2 segments on the tech bar. Also, you can combine a single healing item with any magic energy to create a healing magic flask that you can assign to any of your party members. It will (at least in chapter 3) only heal the member casting, but it's still an option.
So i'm in Chapter 2 (I keep doing hunts) and i've just met
Cor
and have my new mission. It occurs to me that I don't know why the Nilfheim want Luna and Noctis to marry, am I supposed to know this? Or is it a later reveal? Just checking that I haven't missed something.

Very difficult to play this game without side questing as you're going to be way under levelled and therefore need to be very good at dodging attacks or you're going to die a lot cause some of the boss fights in this game are no joke.
Eating to boost defence and attack will help a lot too. Try that it's quite important in this game meals.
I'm so surprised how much I'm loving this game. I thought the open world would be boring, but I'm really losing myself in it. Just reached Duscae and my jaw dropped seeing all this open land to explore. Feels so much more alive than the demo that I don't even mind going through it again. And I've been doing so many side quests, which seems like a bad idea based off the rest of the comments on this page. Fuck it, tho. I'm having fun.
Also surprised by how much I like the main gang. I laugh every time Prompto

I'm still early so I stopped reading at this point, but would you say it's better than VIII? Imo that has the best ending in the series, if this is anywhere close I will be so happy.

It's something the four guys chat about briefly in the car, but mostly it helps massively if you've watched Kingsglaive. Nilfheim suggests a peace treaty which (a part of it) requires Noctis to marry Luna.

I mean, the original team on FF Versus 13. What I heard was they really didn't have much of anything done until Tabata took over, the team was depressed and it was going nowhere.
So at the very least, FFXV came out whereas Versus 13 likely never would've. I also not sure if you're trying to knock the game but its great and the general reception has been overwhelmingly positive outside of Gaf so??? Even convinced some other non FF players to pick it up and they're loving it too, people that primarily play shooters, a guy who's a big souls game player. They did a great job with this game and I'm sure it'll be incredibly successful.

I tried to watch Kingsglaive last night and to be honest I got half way because I wasn't enjoying it. I did get far enough to see the terms of the peace treaty. I'm wondering what Nilfheim get out of it, as Luna isn't from there, she is from occupied Tenebrae. Will that be explained later? If it is then that's cool and I don't need to know anymore.
I really should just power through Kingsglaive though.

I'm sure a lot more will be revealed in the game regarding Nilfheim's motivations, but from Kingsglaive it seems to me that
they wanted Regis, Noctis, and Luna, all together in one place so they could all be killed off together. The peace treaty and marriage was just a ploy to get everyone grouped up and to ensure Nilfheim had access.
Don't know if this is the same one, but I found one just like this at a roadside mart. There were smaller crates nearby, and I could jump up those onto the containers, then jump across containers to get the item. It was a random status ailment curative that didn't seem worth the hassle at all...
Just beat it. I have to give them credit. The ending was very, very good and helps to make up for a lot of sins in the story department (and lord, are there many).
I choked up a couple of times and really, you can never go wrong with the Main Theme of FF. It probably salvaged that final scene of Noctis and Luna, a relationship that the game never gave me any reason to care about. Also, the use of Somnus for most of the climax pieces was appropriate, even if I was a little disappointed by Shimomura's final boss theme. She tackled this type of piece better in KH2.
I'm not sure how I feel about the game at the moment. It's deeply flawed but it captivated me like nothing else I played this year. Hell, I beat it in four days, if that's any indication. Took a little over 31 hours. I think if the story/characters were allowed to breathe more and various quality of life issues were addressed, this game could have been incredible. As it is, it's simply good. But good is still better than I thought it was going to be, given the length of development.
So this game is like a reverse FFXIII. Start off open, then push the player into an inescapable pipe for the last third of the game. I thought Chapter 9 was going to be like an epic ~half-way-ish point after which there is still 30-40% of the main scenario & plenty of exploring to be done, but it reaaaaaaallly rushes through the story & world after that.
I think the quality of dialogue is surprisingly good (there's a lot of goofy & clumsy lines, but there are also plenty of good pieces of dialogue). Was expecting a lot more "mom's are tough" and "I'm a hero" level writing but I feel the dialogue often flows quite well, except for Prompto who's lines don't fit in a lot of situations. It's mostly the one-liner type things that feel a bit out-of-place and often sound dumb. I think dialogue itself isn't the problem with the writing/story, it's the abrupt editing. Scenes often start off ok but then they just end at odd places which constantly creates this "ok... what happened then?" and "that's it???" moments. They could've ended the scenes in more natural ways or extended them a bit to not end them so abruptly and even added some scenes to give more context & more screentime to certain characters. A lot of scenes are just too short and end when they are in the middle of something. What writing is there is pretty ok but in the end the scenes overall kind of lack that something when they aren't given the room to breathe.
Also, haven't gotten to the end yet (I think I'm at Chapter 13), but this story does really feel like it's a condensed version of something bigger that was originally planned. It just rushes through everything after Chapter 9. Characters like the Dragoon lady and Luna's brother have these story arcs that you can see are kind of complete (you have a clear beginning and then they end up as something else) but then they've been cut to max 20 minutes of screentime, which severely diminishes the quality of experience. Like the dragoon lady going from
an antagonist to suddenly being a hero of the people
. I feel there could've been a nice story there that shows the development from beginning to end, but we get the cliff notes version of everything. I guess undercooked is the term here. You have the beginning point A and a pretty nice ending Z but everything except points C and M from between A & Z are missing.
There was clearly a nice story & sidestories here but most everything just doesn't have enough room to breathe and stuff is just cut really short & rushed through past the slow-ish beginning of the game. Still enjoying it but yeah, chapters past 9 have left me wanting a bit more.
That might be ok for me, FFVIII was hardly perfect before the ending. It's still my favourite game with the GOAT final dungeon and ending in the series. I'll keep an open mind.
You can also use that stuff as catalysts in the elemancy tab, but my general rule of thumb is keep the really cheap stuff and sell the more expensive stuff.
Don't actually know if it can be used for anything else so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Here's my take on it after watching kingsglaive (kingsglaive spoilers):
niflheim doesn't give a shit if noctis and luna are married. The only reason they suggested this is to get luna into the capital so that Glauca can kidnap her and therefore lure the kingsglaive out of the city and wipe them out. This would make the invasion of insomnia a lot more likely to succeed.

Oh thanks, that's really helpful context for what's going on. I've spent 5 hours doing hunts so I think i'm going to push on through the story a bit. I'm ready to leave the desert I think.
Yep, I absolutely recommend reaching at least chapter 3 before exploring. Nothing gets locked, you just unlock more freedom and gameplay mechanics. Doesn't take long at all.
Some of these monsters in the hunts are no joke, even when I'm a handful of levels above the recommendation.
I'm way over-leveled for the main story, though. Hoarded close to 25k of xp and stayed at the hotel that gives the 2x xp boost. Now level 29 and just started Chapter 3.

Worth noting that some items from the treasures tab are used to upgrade weapons. My rule of thumb is to sell anything I have more than ten of. I'm pretty sure most is safe to sell, but I'm being cautious.
Basically, Prompto is my wife. He wants to talk constantly when I'm trying to focus on brooding, he needs emotional support for every feeling he has, he wants me to tell him how great his pictures are even though I don't give a shit, and he nags me to stop at every goddamn photo opportunity when I'm just trying to fucking get to my ultimate destination sometime today.
Edit: This is my wife, not all spouses (man or woman) in general. Please don't destroy me.

Turn on the stamina bar and you can press the sprint button again when stamina is almost empty to completely refill it. Infinite running
I actually noticed the other day that there is a visual cue as well on when to release and press the button again. Noctis pulls up ever so slightly. So if you don't want the stamina bar cluttering your screen, you can just watch for that.
The trophy is fairly easy to get although the only grinding that will be required is the fishing mini game for Noctis. All other trophies can be obtained by doing the side content and main quests. Only thing missable is one trophy requiring normal difficulty for final boss.
