Umm my screen is getting reddish things.. dunno what that is, summon or something?

I think there's a tower beaming red light causing it.

Well, that ending certainly lived up to the hype. Okay I'm not done with this game by a long shot but thoughts.... I loved it. I have nitpicks not problems, it's so good to see this series hit me again. Fantastic game, I'll need more time to see where I would compare it but right now it's pretty high.

Was messing around with toggling HDR on and off to see the differences. Man with HDR on, characters actually look like they have skin color :p

And I'm 12 hours in and just met Iris....need to stop doing sidequests T_T

It got to the point where Glad said "We been making Iris wait long enough" lol

CHAPTER 14 SPOILERS:

Am I the only one who thinks getting pasted by all the enemies in Insomnia really isn't that much fun?

I'm having fun with the game but it's clear the title is PLENTY of issues.
First, there's not a plot. the one we see in the game is just a pretext to make you wander around the world, throwing in from time to time some situations like
imperials got your car, take it back by doing a stealth section in the base.

There's not really so much going on, and the meat is not too tast. The game is full of contradictions too, like
your goal is to retrieve the royal weapons, like Cor says before disappearing into the voig. But soon the goal is forgot and you need to retrieve summon...why? I mean ok, you need their power, but I find extremely stupid the way the game guides you on doing those tasks. Again, just a reason to travel around.

Sides and hunts are simply awful, the worst example of fetch quests. Go here, kill that, go back to retrieve your reward. The game also proposes you the same quest again and again, with the dude with the broke car needing a repair kit. They are here just to artificially increase the game's lenght, and in the worst manner in my opinion. They are not fun to do, except a couple of them until now, they are here just to create a checklist.

The overworld feels very empty. There's pretty much nothing if not stuff to kill and some loot around. It feels like the overworld is here just to be filled with those awful fetch, giving the player something to do before proceeding toward the next main mission.

As I wrote I'm having fun on doing the main plot, even if is full of non-sense things and fade out scenes
like, the chancellor saves your party from the Titan location and...not even a cutscene with the group questioning him on his actions? Why? It's just stupid, if someone would save me AFTER pushing me on a fight like that, if I know that dude is the chancellor of the country which assaulted mine and killed my father, at least I would make SOME questions. Instead, nothing.

Dunno, this is not by far the best FF nor the worst, but it feels like they rushed the hell out of it. It doesn't even seem a triple A game (I mean, when you choose to fast travel to Regalia, the game literally spawns all the characters mid-air near the car), too many bugs, some of them are also game-breaking (so save manually, often and on different slots), the fighting system is still a mess in my opinion when you face a group of enemies...dunno.

I'll ask this super spoiler ending question now. Just want a yes or no because some ass-hole spoiled it to me.
Again ENDING spoiler.
I read that Luna dies. Will it affect my enjoyment of the ending? Yes or No?

Just play the game. It won't affect how you feel about the ending. If it has any effect, it will be a positive one, imo.

We have no way of knowing that, since preferences are so different.

Personally, it actually enhanced my enjoyment of the ending.

I have a lot of feelings about this game after finishing the story... going to sleep on it and see how I feel in the morning.

Finished Chapter 9

I actually liked the fight with Leviathan. I love the scale of the battle. One of things that always fascinates me in video games is this ability to depict and overcome impossibly large things. That's why I always was impressed by SOTC adn stuff. Now, this battle was a set peice rail shooter, not a full on proper fight unfortunately, but it was fairly exciting anyway...

Also, hey, a CGI you guys all want so much!!!

just got to chapter 2 (5 hours); still enjoying it but I see where the story complaints come in a bit. The added scene was poorly placed. Its also weird to be able to still fuck around at this point...the game should railroad you a bit to keep the sense of urgency IMO. I DO however like Noctis' reaction to the events
he mad. I expected emo stuff ...but perhaps thats coming....
.

gameplay wise, still have fun wandering aimlessly, which may not be for everyone. The combat hasn't fully clicked but I haven't lost a fight yet. I am crazy broke and that sucks. I might just beeline story missions until I hit a new zone to keep things fresh (and perhaps challenging lol).

still the game is obviously very flawed and I'm not even that far in. BUT I am having fun...which is all that matters to me.

Too bad work is getting in the way....fucking Amazon's shenanigans man. Could be much farther.

I'm about 12 hours in and part way through Chapter 3, I like it so far but a few things are starting to drag it down.

Driving around in the car I don't enjoy, 5 minute drives to just sit and watch the scenery aren't fun.

The camera in battles is making things much more difficult than it needs to be, half the time I can't see anything because the camera has planted itself behind scenery or all the characters and enemies are in a big jumbled mess of animations I can't tell what is happening. I feel I'm just mashing circle and hoping for the best. I also don't seem to be able to use R1 to lock-on correctly it's very frustrating.

None of the characters have stood out for me so far. I guess you get stuck with the same 4 characters for the entire game so I hope that changes.

Wow I got to Lestallum just yesterday, one of the most beautiful towns I've visited in an RPG ever.

Btw I must say the game works opposite of what should do to impress players: starts very slow and improves on that while usually games start very strong and gets weaker by hours. Impressed but confused by this choice.

Story still sort of lacking, luckily the bros keep things lively for now.

Basically not giving a fuck about anything and back riding chocobos a moment later? XD it's a funny guy I give you that! (XD)

The open world structure collides with the storytelling unfortunately, but this we knew. Hopefully the linear part corrects this.

Alright I legit dropped a tear. I loved it. The wait was totally worth it for me. I can't believe after everything this team was able to do this and make a great game I'm very proud like I helped made it. That ending was brilliant I'm still shook
Haha.... I know man. The ending has an emotional impact that takes some time to set in. Haven't played any other game since FFXV.

The linear part fixes this issue for sure and doesn't detract from the story but it feels way too short.

Well, you can't deny this is the most "Final Fantasy" a game in the franchise has felt in ages.

"Oh shit, that giant Meteor is about to fall and end the world! Let's go to the Gold Saucer and play some more Virtual Snowboarding."

:p

Open world to make the game feel like a road trip feels like a huge backfire to me.

The traditional world map or XII/Xenoblade style segmented areas does a much better job of making it feel like you're really traveling a world.

It doesn't really feel like a proper "trip" unless you start doing the story missions in order and plow through them.

Yeah, but if you've already explored that area it's like "oh cool backtracking".

I really thinking rushing through the first 9 chapters/even whole game is the best way to play. Feels more like a trip. Unlock stuff to make exploration and sidequests easier. There's a reason old FF games would usually heavily limit how much freedom you really had on the world map until the end.

I'm curious how they'll approach FF7 with feedback from this game. The open world aspect in XV has its positives and negatives but I think many can agree it was a detriment to the main narrative of the game. It's still has it funs parts however, but I agree that being able to drive all around Cleigne and Duscae before you even move past Chapter 3 can take a bit of the road trip aspect of the story away.

This is definitely the FF closer to the idea I have of FF as a whole. It so closely resemble a modern version of FFI, II and III. That's where they should've started from for a reboot and I'm glad they did this with FFXV. Now let's see where the game goes from here, I'm barely at chapter 3 so hopefully there's still much more to see.

That it's being split over multiple games makes it even more of a question mark.

I expect Midgar to be huge and a lot more open at the very least.

Not at all for me. I dont care whatsoever if it disconnects me from the main narrative. Its a game, its not real life and it doesnt all need to fit together perfectly. In fact, i prefer the fact i can stall the main quest and faff around doing slice of life stuff, taking everything at my own pace. If they lost that aspect it would be detrimental for me.

I'm only 7 hours into the game. Still chapter 1.

I like the music and the characters are fun.

Still don't know what to think about the battlesystem. It's quite a mess. And the graphics can get really ugly sometimes.

And what about magic? I expected real magic spells, not this draw power and make magic shit. It's really disappointing.

Power through to chapter 3 at least so you unlock faster travel.

Nobody should be messing around in the first two chapters.

I'm not saying that it isn't fun or an engaging aspect of the game. Driving around the world and finding new outposts and enemies has been one of my favorite parts of FFXV. What I'm saying is that from a storytelling perspective it can hurt overall nature of the plot when there's this sense of urgency in the cutscenes and dialogue but a lack of it the open world. As you said, there's no reason why I shouldn't take my time in the open world if they've given me the option but it comes at the cost of telling a story efficiently.

Am I doing something wrong when locking on to enemies because I just can't seem to get the hang of it, is there a technique to it? I've even gone into the options screen to check that it is in fact R1 I'm supposed to be pressing. It's like it just doesn't make any difference if I'm locked on or not.

-I can't find a reliable way of permanently locking in to a target without letting go of the lock on button. Is there a way to hard lock?

I'm really frustrated with the locking system too. I don't mind chaotic, AOE melee combat, but the fact that it teases me with sometimes locking on to the enemy I want to single out is maddening. I'm using control type B, and I've basically accepted that I can only temporarily lock an enemy by holding R1, but since that's really inconvenient I only really use the lock for identifying warp attack targets and let it go immediately after the attack animation begins. I've been in one combat scenario where the game, over 15 minutes, continually dropped 1 Gigantoad, a half dozen Bison things, and two dozen magitek soldiers on me at varying intervals until I eventually ran out of the overlapping combat circles because I couldn't survive any longer. The Gigantoad was twice as high level as the other enemies, and I would have loved to focus all DPS on it, but there was literally no way I could find to do that effectively. As it stands, I have to admit that (as much as I'm enjoying FFXV) there seems to be an obvious ceiling to my strategic efforts that is at a much lower bar than similar games like XCX. Ultimately even the camera doesn't seem to be a foolproof method for changing your target for soft-lock, because at least half the time I'll rotate the camera 180 degrees and then immediately jump backwards when I attempt to attack again.

Edit: At this point the floating dustbusters that drop two dozen magitek riflemen who all fire on a single party member simultaneously are the worst for this. It seems like no matter how much I try to focus attacks on individual enemies to single them out and defeat them quickly I inevitably end up jumping between every single one while they fire relentlessly on me like a 19th century musket line. The best method I've found is to find the nearby warp points to allow you to jump out of combat, target an enemy, and jump back in repeatedly.

Hold R1 to lock on, press R3 to keep it locked.

In which control scheme?

Learning to switch on the fly between soft and hard lock on helps greatly
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x543f3t_glorious-airdance_videogames

I've heard this statement multiple times, and I don't understand how its helpful if you can't figure out how to hard lock to begin with. Can you specify how to hard lock in each control scheme for those of us who are control ignorant? The control interface/help does not specify this at all, and I played through the tutorial twice hoping to figure it out.

The in-game documentation for the game systems is a complete joke, as far as I can tell. The details for how to interact with most of the systems are expressed in one-time message boxes that you have no way of reviewing a second time. What's the difference between black and grey health bars, for example - I figured this out by searching GAF (potion vs elixir), but for a couple hours I couldn't find any explanation for why Prompto (fucking Prompto)'s health was not regenerating in between fights. I forgot what the specific penalty for using Royal Arms was after I saw the cutscene/message where it was mentioned, and I had to google the weapon name to find a link to a wiki where the health decrease was mentioned. Say what you will about Nintendo, every time I got confused by the similarly complex systems in Xenoblade Chronicles X (the most obvious comparison I can think of) I could simply check the digital game manual to find an answer quickly. I can't even replay a cutscene in FFXV or search a compendium of knowledge on different subjects that have been explained to me already. I'm enjoying the game so far, but the in-game system/mechanics explanations are astoundingly shitty/non-existent.

But hey, I can browse the archive of all the pictures Prompto has taken or my food recipes at any given time?

I play with the type a controls and hard lock on is R1 + R3.

Absolutely agreed.

Like I said earlier, engaging in grocery trip simulator via sidequests really just takes away from the narrative pacing, which is already bad enough without being further mucked up.

Ultimately I think that open-world stuff is more fun than the slog of a main story, but I still feel like the wide freedom you get early on ruins any sense of pacing to the narrative.

Still in chapter 6. I've put more than 40 hours in, have done some of Castlemark Tower, and now everyone in the party has over 500k EXP stored up. It seems like the cap is high enough to allow 7 figures, so I'm wondering if i might keep doing shit until everyone in the party has 1 million stored up. I tried resting Galdin Quay for the 2x bonus to see how far 1 million exp would take the party, and it's currently enough to carry them from level 36-38 to level ~76.

Just got into chapter 3. Plenty stuff to nitpick, but game's still pretty fun. Still trying to wrap myself around the combat and trying to go at it efficiently.

Great game. Reminds me of FF12 so much with the "regal plot" and open world etc.

Didn't know I wanted to play this kind of Final Fantasy until I played it again.

Question:

- is there no monster encyclopedia in this game ?!? Cannot find information about the monsters I killed.

Chapter 2 BTW in 4 hours - I am just pushing through main quest to unlock stuffs.
