WTF chapter 9/10

People said story is half cocked, but I say this whole boss fight is even less than half cocked. Fucking terrible aside from the music.

16 hours in and still in Chapter 3... there's so much to do and the best part, the combat is fun!!!

Gone 5 days without sleeping exp is 16000. Trying to boost it up before sleeping at the double exp hotel.

Cactuar's are hard to find though.

It's isn't though. Always in the same location at day.

These are probably both really stupid questions with really simple answers.

a) is there an online manual for the game anywhere?
b) how do you use potions to recover HP in combat? I tried going through the Gear menu to equip them on the Down button on the D-pad but they're not listed in there, and if I go to the Items menu it just has Check and Order, neither of which seems to let me actually use them.

Press R2 in battle to open the item menu.

On PS4 if you press R2 during combat it brings up potions, elixirs etc.

So just finished Chapter 4 and at the start of Chapter 5 . About 11 hours in.

Wow chapter 4's set piece was one of the best ever. And the beginning of chapter 5 was fab! The story is really not that big of an issue for me anymore at the moment!

There is something very special about this game.
seeing the lightning striking in duscae and going on the ramuh quest has me so excited. Feels like something not from this generation and just so classic FF
. Also before going to
titan i triggered a scene seeing luna in tenebrae as i chose not to sleep in a caravan with ardyn and then listened to people listening to the radio
. Was that an optional scene? If so i'm worried as to how many of these types of optional scenes i missed!

Anyway this is already my game of the generation. Enjoying it more and more!

I played this for a few hours last night. I can't shake the feeling that this is really good! Some quirks but it is highly enjoyable.

The game is frustrating me now. I really think there is something fundimental I'm missing about the combat, I just can't seem to get it despite doing all the tutorials. The fights are just chaotic and I can barely target anything or tell what is happening.

Is there any other way to restore max health other than Elixers as I don't have the gill for that yet I'm finding I constantly have to use them through dungeons.

Just got this game for £35, but can't play it until tonight when my son has gone to bed. Really looking forward to it, haven't played a FF since 12.

Chapter 9 is the
worst part of the game from a quality standpoint. It seems like they were struggling with how to handle that whole area from a technical standpoint and they just left it in there. It's great from a story perspective but the game dips in quality at that point.

Anyone else never refuse a fight against those imperial giant mechs?
It feels so satisfying to topple them over or see them explode.

I saw someone giving away an Amazon DLC code earlier -- anyone with a Japanese DLC account want to swap? My PSN account is NA and I'd love to have that code instead of the Japanese one that I've got. Will gladly give you the Square-Enix members points as well.

So far one change I would make to how the game controls:

Merge the touch pad menu into the pause menu, on the option button.

Place item/chocobo menu on the touch pad

Make R2 a modifier button that when held down swaps to a different 4 dpad buttons - so you can have access to 8 different weapons at once.

Also take interact off the jump button. That shit is crazy.

Can I add to that a little bit?

Remove map from R3 and put it on the touchpad too. Right side only, like Bloodborne that had two different shortcuts depending on where you pressed the touchpad.

Then R3 becomes hard lock-on, without having to press R1 first.

The North American version uses the same button (X?) for interact and jump!?

I always knew I was an O-for-accept partisan and this confirms it. The Japanese version does all the interacting with O and jump is X.

Every time I have to press X twice, the first time he jumps the second he interacts. A bit annoying.

Just spent 8 hours on this game today. Haven't done that since the Witcher 3.

I really love traversing the world.

The motel at the pitstop between Hammerhead and Galdin Quay.

I slept there and didn't get any scene. Maybe it's random?

Just hold X and walk up to whatever you want to interact with. You'll jump initially but afterwards it'll interact with whatever you walk up to, without the need to press it a hundred more times to get it "just right"

This is really a very unique game. It's hard to draw comparisons to other titles.

Witcher 3 is actually a good comparison, both games are about controlling the pace of combat, neither play well as action game.Being aggressive, cooling down abit to restore (sign bar/MP here) , before diving back in again.

Unrelated note, just got spoiled that theres a
demonwall
in the game! Is this in an endgame dungeon? probably my favorite enemy.

Your best bet is to keep your finger ready on the block button. Parrying is actually quite easy in this game. You can hold the block button while the "Block" icon appears and Noct will automatically parry the attack given you press the attack button when the "Parry" icon appears. Just be sure that Noct is not in the animation of attacking with his weapon while you're holding block because it'll override the parry window. Parrying will set up the enemies for a link strikes if your party members are nearby, which does massive amounts of damage and will sometimes break defensive components on their body. Also, be aware that you can roll out of the way to get yourself out of a sticky situation with an aggressive enemy by double tapping the block button and pointing the left thumbstick in the direction where you wish to roll. Doesn't use any MP, so roll away!

I highly suggest you invest in a skill that Ignis has called "Regroup". It will teleport all party members to Ignis and heal them all by a generous amount. Very useful to get yourself and party members out of the danger status given that Ignis is not in the same status himself.

Other than that, practice makes perfect. Train with Gladiolus at camp to get the feeling of the combat down, anticipating attacks and knowing when to hit the block button

Man, I advise everyone to track down the Dissidia cds. Best selection of FF songs in the game.

For those looking for the location, I found them at the Old Lestallum Outpost near Hulldagh Pike in Duscae

Did I miss something or is the only thing you get out of Daurel Caverns
the moogle charm. Is there really no tomb or locked door hidden in it?

When I realized the Duscae/Cleigne/Leide map was all there was to the open world I was disappointed. But now that I'm driving around (just got to Lestallum), crap the world is big. I don't know how it compares to other big open world games. But having such long sight lines really ups the sense of scale for me. Also, so many cool things tucked away in out of the way places. Exploring has been more fun than I expected (chocobo riding is great, too).

Story wise, I'm still on the fence, but I'm engaged so far, and it does feel like a journey, way more so than XIII at the same point...

Not sure if anyone would remember but is there any mandatory exp tallying/rest between the end of chapter 8 and
reaching Altissia
?

I seemed to have accrued like 100k exp and would like to use the 3x multiplier hotel but if they're going to force me to tally at 1x then I'll just go rest at the 2x one.
