Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Can you ever open that sealed door in Ramuh's dungeon?

Commentary as I'm going through the game:

Are all these monsters going to be like a quarter mile away from my spot? Running to them has like entire minutes of nothing happening

This dialogue is so incredibly pointless. "There's a pebble in my shoe" "So take it out" "yeah..."

Oh my fucking god, those fries look amazing, I want them

Firstly, apologies if this discussion has already been had earlier in the thread and/or in the many threads leading up to release. I am aware of the loose details of what Versus 13 was about without knowing the finer points and equally did not follow the development of XV in great detail. I will spoiler my thoughts below, it is early game stuff (mainly Chapter 1) and Kingsglaive comments really.

I'm just after starting Chapter 3, about 10 hours in and currently enjoying the game though feel no sense of urgency with the events transpiring over the first few chapters. I watched Kingsglaive after Chapter 1 (following advice from this thread) and also enjoyed it for what it was, CGI is gorgeous, action is great, story a bit so-so.

Anyway, whilst watching Kingsglaive I couldn't help but feel that Noctis should have been Nix in the story and the events of Kingsglaive should've been the opening of the game (some reworking of elements for sure and merging of roles in places). I was puzzled by how the car was broken down or out of fuel so close to Insomnia at the start of the game. Had the gang just escaped the attack right before this opening I could understand the car breaking down - wouldn't have to be with Lunafreya or anything, just trying to escape the carnage of the main attack.

We could've had a heavily scripted but action packed high octane opening with Noctis engaging in battles similar in scope to Nix's endeavours, mini boss battle, summoning, warping between shops and so on. After Regis is killed Noctis loses some of his powers (sort of God of War like stripping the powers and rebuilding over the course of the game). In a similar manner the gang could've had their abilities stripped and over the course of the game learn to draw their strength from Noctis as he grows in power also.

Having maybe spent time with Regis as Noctis ourselves could've helped to develop the relationship between the characters and allow us as the player an emotional response to Regis being killed. Have Noctis present at the treaty signing when all hell breaks loose. As it is we're presented with an enemy we really have no connection with as a player and it's hard to get invested in the stakes when I can happily go about my business ignoring the story for now and collecting food for the diner - the gang don't really even talk about it all that much as they travel around. We're presented with Regis who is clever enough to see a Niflheim bluff and send his son away but not clever enough to actually have a plan in place to deal with the threat to his city.

Am I on my own with this or has anyone had similar thoughts in this manner? Was V13 planned to open differently based on information to hand or what else was cut that we know which would shape the opening part of the game better. I'm not sure I would have any investment in the story had I not watched the film

The dialogue between bros is awesome. They repeat a lot of stuff as you run around sure, but plenty of activities trigger unique moments that really bring the characters to life.

It's a shame as those who beeline for the main campaign will miss out. One specific scene that adds a tonne to a certain character's backstory is a hidden cutscene after you rest at a hotel, for example.

It's well designed in terms of rewards for exploring the world, and the delivery of it aligns with the nature of the road-trip backdrop, but it's all far too easy to miss.

So, I jsut left the dungeon adn game decided it was "too close to morning" and closed it... I am literally just waiting there till it's night again, cuz resting is guaranteed to respawn monsters >_> Did I mention "fuck this game" yet?

My HUD is extending beyond the borders of my screen :( and I don't have zoom our anything on.

Also my game feels...heavy and slow. I guess that's the 30fps, but sometimes the graphics look so so bad like I just started fishing the very time and the fish look like n64 era graphics.

Finally, there's something not smooth about the graphics for me but it looks so much better on YouTube when others are playing it.

Aside from that I just got to the ferry place (the first place you can fish) and I'm level 7. I'm still not confident with my grasp of the combat but I like it and I'm looking forward to getting better (although the heavy feeling and the jagged graphics make it hard to see what's going on the screen).

Any thoughts?? Maybe I should mention my primary gaming is done on a 1440p monitor and gtx 970 on my pc so maybe that's why I'm perceiving a downgrade.

VXIII did have Noctis in place of Nyx.

I enjoyed the movie too, but it definitely detracted from the game proper by taking out its rightful introduction sequence.

I love everything about this game so far. Honestly just can't stop playing and I'm still in a Chapter 3. Even mundane things like fetch quests and fishing are fun.

Fishing is item #2 on my list of stuff to practise tonight after fighting a bit. I found another fishing spot last night so i'm going to give it a whirl.

I enjoyed the movie too, but it definitely detracted from the game proper by taking out its rightful introduction sequence.

The strength of the first half is in the care-free bonding of the brothers and the ability to engage freely with the game's various systems. It's utterly unique to the FF series outside of the MMOs, and it's absolutely the games strongest aspect.

I think the opening sequence from V15 would have ruined this vibe, much in the same way the information regarding (early game spoilers)
the attack and the death of the king
contradicts it. All the more serious story parts should have been saved for the latter part of the game. Have the road trip begin entirely separate from these things, wait until a later point is reached before the (early game spoilers)
attack on the city
happens, after you've had ample time to explore the world and bond with your brothers.

Not only would this lend the serious story beats much more impact, but it would prevent the charming nature of the road trip part from being confused tonally.

The game begins with such a great atmosphere which would be ruined if you included serious story beats before hand.

Fuck this game for throwing the goddamn soldiers when you're fighting something else. I was fighting this frog thing in Duscae, level 34 against my level 13. I was going slowly getting the frog's HP down and all of a sudden some 8 soldiers level 16 jump in and fuck our shit.

Having enemies spawn right in your face when fighting other enemies is some massive bullshit. Screw your ugly ass face SQEX!

Try it at night, you can have daemons spawn on you too!

SNIP.

I'm assuming your playing on a TV. Sounds like you have overscan issues. Go into screen settings on your where you can chose 16:9 etc and you should have an option somewhere letting you tell the TV you want the screen size to match the exact signal being sent. It has different names on each TV so not sure what yours would say.

Is there any postgame guide or anything? Finished the game at lvl 49, not sure where to start now and what's the best way to level up quick.

Costlemark Tower can fuck right off. It's killing my appreciation for the combat.

I don't know if it's a known bug, but I had a Red Giant that persisted to use the force field for like 10 minutes. I managed to kill him after negating mp and using warp strikes. After killing Jabberwocky, I crashed the Regalia and had to do the whole thing over.

I managed to do something wrong on the block puzzle and ended up with 3 Red giants and a Nagarasakasakasaki or whatever. After 30 minutes of fighting and burning through my phoenix down, the Nagarasakasarakarasi bugged and persistd to do the water whirls for 15 minutes. The thing is invisible during that, so I had no way to fight, leave or anything. Had to restart again but I almost threw my PS4 out the window and went to sleep.

That dungeon can suck a big one imo. Tonight's the third time and last time ever.

Haha I had this happen to me. I was fighting 5 unicorn things, then 5 other monsters appear they look like dogs with towels on their head and use a spell that confuses you. I'm lick fuck! All hell brakes loose then the military robots comme in!!!! Like seriously. I made it out alive but damn thats annoying and it's happened like 10 times now.

I wanted to write up some stuff about the game. I had to actually take a break from it last week out of frustration and I've been having a tough time pinning down why. I'm hoping writing it out will help lol.

So like many others I wrote up some early impressions on that thread. What's interesting to me reading it back is, like the others, it's very positive takeaways from the early game sprinkled with some heavy eagerness to love the game.

I'm now much further through the game, around 40 hours and just a bit into Chapter 13. At this point I walked away just frustrated and disappointed. It'll come as no surprise to folk that it's due to the story and it's presentation. In a nutshell it suuuucks... so so bad.

For the first half of the game the open world nature led to a fragmented broken up story that was fine enough (read, not great). I can see in my impressions I was super hopeful from the the little I already saw but sadly it wasn't to be, but not just because of the open world. I'm not a big fan of open world as it's almost always the story that stuffers as you lose control on how to tell a closely knitted and cohesive story. It seems the dev team also found this and switched a linear narrative at the end.

I was hoping that this linear narrative would give me what I love Final Fantasy for, a deep focus on story, and to be fair they tried. However as mentioned it's just a mess. Over the weekend I realized I could sum it up with two words - "But why?". From Chapter
9
onwards (and a little bit before) there's too many plot beats where I asked this question. The story failings range from stuff happening off screen, some not being adequately explained, some only mentioned in load screens and some seemingly not told to you at all. Sometimes I've had to stop playing when something was mentioned like I already should know it, to try and remember if I should've.

It sucks more as I like the story ideas and what they're trying to do. In the few moments when they get it right, it's more bittersweet as the payoffs are not as powerful as they should've been due to significant execution failings before and after. It's really soured the whole experience for me personally.

Anyhoo apologies for the long post and rant. I needed to vent my frustrations somehow lol as it's put me in a proper funk (way more than it should have, so silly). I'm going to jump back in tonight (through the infamous Chapter 13 onwards) and hope that the reportedly good ending can make it better but I've never had to walk away and take a break from a FF like this before (or even many games). It's all just so frustrating... I really hope FFXVI focuses way more on simply telling a good story with excellent gameplay.

No spoiler pls but have a question, when you finish the game does the game throw you back in the world? And they you can continue doing your stuff? Or do you load a pre ending save ?

How much i wasn't trilled by the overall level design in general in the game, I did some dungeon but none of them really hit me, they were pretty average i guess... until that
volcano
dungeon.... holy shit i can't believe this is side content, so much work was probably there, this was amazing. Tell me there are other cool dungeon like these ?

Yeah this happens a lot more than in Duscae demo.

I kind of liked it there but they need to tune it down a bit on this version.

I find the close camera to be better. It has the downside of having to deal with offscreen crap far more often, but at least what's on screen is much easier to react to. I tried the default camera distance and found it gets a bit too far when there's more enemies, so I'm sticking with the closer one.

It definitely is a bit too narrow, they should have widened the space a bit more. Otherwise it is a pretty fun dungeon imo.

I've taken all the moving blocks in that room (they've all got checkpoints on the map ) but I always end up in the big room where 3 red giants and that snake thing with tons of flans spawn. I'm stuck because I've burnt through all my restoration items and magic and haven't even gotten to the boss. Doesn't help I never got the option to summon during any of those big fights.

Done two of the 'sealed' dungeons now. Found the first and third ones alright, not been to the second yet. I'll gradually work down them. But I'm in the level 92-96 range for my party so I'm expecting the later ones to be tough.

In addition to the above:

You can return to the open world any time you reach a lodgings (inn, shack, bed, etc...). Even during the super linear chapters later on.

I haven't done the last one but the hardest of the 7 is Steyliffe. Have fun with that.

Yeah, I had a summon once on 2 giants and a Naga. At the 3 giants and a Naga Ramuh stayed away like he was allergic to helping people in a pinch. The fight took me 45 minutes ultimately ending in having no chance.

Also, there is a way to do the block puzzles right. I'm gonna look into it because that room with the spawns is too ridiculous. Giants highly resistant to everything and burning through 6 ethers while not being able to Death the Giants burned me out pretty good.

I think the most disappointing thing about this game is the way summons were still handled in the end.

I will probably never see
Titan, Leviathan or Shiva
due to the way summons are handled. I really hope they patch a simple item in that lets you force summon the gods. This absolutely bummed that the original concept of summoning that was in Duscae was for the most part the best they could come up with.

Tragic victim of fan death
So I beat Chapter 9 yesterday and the story turned from bad to one of the worst things I've ever seen in a video game. This is not an exaggeration. FFXV made me appreciate how bad a story in a video game is and that is in large part to context. I think gamers, myself included, often times complain about there's too much explanation or too much plot or too much they're telling us, etc etc. The list goes on. However, this is a much better alternative to what XV has done which is not tell us anything. There is minimal amount of context, things that are explained better in the chapter intro loading screen, and the amount of information relegated to random newspaper headlines or radio transmissions. Who the fuck thought this was okay?

To get into specific detail about Chapter 9 everything below here is end of chapter spoiler territory and beginning of Chapter 10.
First off the chapter pretty much starts with Cor whining to Noctis about how he wasn't able to protect Noctis. Yet… Noctis is off to Altissia knowing there's going to be a fight with the empire but he doesn't tag along?.... Like… Lulz? Did someone look through the script. If you're actually sorry why the fuck wouldn't you got to Altissia and you know… actually protect your fucking king? Also the entirety of the chapter is absolute trash. Then we get to the Altissia and shit just gets worse. Immigration process is bad, meeting the prime minister or the president or whatever the fuck role that old lady was bad, then everything gets even worse. Apparently I'm playing FFX but the characters in the game are assholes cuz everyone seems to know what the fuck is going on how this world works but doesn't seem to explain anything at all. Rites and rituals and Oracles? Eh, things happen and apparently Noctis needs it for stuff. Archaean, Hydroaen, etc etc? Terminology being through around? Sure. Relationship with the empire? Just a random expose via a dialogue choice. Oh yeah, there's also the fact that the emperor who is doing everything is really evil, Iedolas, but the game tries to paint the picture that the Empire was something different 10 years ago (maybe not so evil)? Like… This shit is all over the place and NOTHING is explained. There is literally no foundation to care. There is no foundation for anything outside of liking the brotherhood of the 4 main characters.

Then comes to the part I legit said out loud "Am I supposed to fucking care?" Luna gives a speech to the masses (and for fucks sake Square Enix, do some audio mixing and put on better music) which is absolute shit. The dialogue is supposed to be like Harvey Dent levels of speech in The Dark Knight except is absolutely fails because 1.) there is no context for the starscourge (which by the way they still haven't fucking explained minus the prologue lore tutorial) 2.) there is no build up to who Luna is and why we should care about her at all 3.) there is no fucking reason for us to care that Noctis cares about Luna cuz the relationship wasn't there in the game (saying they're betrothed and having Noctis make comments about him liking Luna doesn't count). Then comes the ultimate shitty payoff. Luna gets killed off by Ardyn. You have two problem characters in the same scene and shit goes off and I was like "uhh.. Kay? Lulz? I guess this happened." Ardyn has shown up consistently but nothing is ever explained about him at all. He does his own thing and I guess the emperor is fine with that? Like.. What IS his relationship with his empire. Literally no info. Not even a little bit. But he keeps showing up. Then we have Luna who we are supposed to care about who only made minimal appearances with also little to no info. Ardyn kills Luna and we're supposed to feel bad but we don't cuz who the fuck cares about a random nobody dying. I actually feel bad for the voice actress for the older Luna cuz as it stands now the younger Luna got more lines than older one did LMAO! Shit happens again except Ignis is now blind? Yo. SE, I get you didn't have enough time to do everything which is why you cut stuff out and relegated to DLC like Gladio randomly leaving (which I'm pretty sure was supposed to be a quest with everyone entirely rather than a solo adventure) and Ignis doing something and getting blinded. I'm sure the Prompto stuff is stuff that got cut too. However, if you're cutting that important stuff cuz you can't make it into a gameplay segment due to time constraints then you have to FUCKING SHOW US. Which brings me to a theory. I think the game before it became XV had important storypoints and setpieces already done. Certain things like the entirety of Altissia was probably something they definitely wanted to carry over. That being said it seems like they tried to fit other random plot stuff around it and build this horrible narrative. There was that 4chan rumor back that confirmed everything was true. One of the things was that the story kept changing even towards the end. I firmly believe this was true. There is a staggering lack of cutscenes, lines, story elements, etc. I can see this being one of the reasons why cutscenes simply don't exist. Just.. UGH. Oh yeah, in the beginning of chapter 10 the loading screen tells us that Cor told us there's a royal tomb in Nifelheim. LMAO. Thanks for telling us that in a loading screen?....

Altissia must've been the oldest part of the game and something that carried over from Versus cuz everything looked like absolute crap. The visuals are PS3 levels and everything between a half-baked city and a shitty boss fight tells me that they had no idea what the fuck they wanted to do. They had a cool idea and panicked on how to fit it into the story. Just floating around spamming attack with your Armiger missiles and not being able to dies is not fun. I literally had something on my attack button while I played Granblue Fantasy. Like… holy shit is this bad.

Fuck everything about this game. This is a BAD game. Narratively.
