That's fair to say, but keep in mind some people also set some possibly unrealistic expectations over the years, too. You really need to play it for yourself. As far as the narrative goes, it's probably the roughest part and it's pretty uneven, but not everyone is hating it.

Also keep in mind that for the most part, people are going to be talking about the things that annoyed them because you don't typically go to a forum to tell everyone that you're feeling OK about things :p

You gotta play it for yourself. It's really the only way. Everyone gets something different out of it.

Yeah. I found the plot itself to be great, but the way it's told is very rough. It's extremely clear a lots of cuts were made, and the fact that
cool-looking characters just vanish into thin air is not a good thing.

Finished chapter 9. Not sure what to say or how I feel about it... Visually incredible at least.

It was hard to hear some of the dialogue, does anyone know what
Ardyn said to Luna and vice versa? I couldn't hear that whole convo very well.

Yeah. I liked the story overall, but just like Kingsglaive (and VIII, I've noticed, so I'm blaming Nojima for this even if it may not be totally true), the problem isn't WHAT happened, it's like there's all this backstory that informs why these things happen that just doesn't get translated onto the main work. You have to like dig through to understand why that crazy thing that just happened actually makes sense.

I can forgive stuff like scenes getting cut. Or weird scene transitions. What bothered me the most is actually
the characters that are so wasted, like the Niflheim Generals (Loqi, whats-his-name that gets captured and escapes two seconds later, Verstael...). They all completely vanish with zero explanation, and it's lame that they are probably saving them for DLC (If at all).

Is there any more outfits in the game? Kinda weird that you start out with a couple and they even have stat differences, but I have yet to see any more.

This is my first FF and I bought it purely because the open world looked nice. All I've done so far is a couple of story missions (am about to board the boat that Dino sorted for me) and a few hunts, I'm at level 14. Not quite sure what I'm doing when battling the monsters, but there's something about the game which keeps me going, I think it's a combination of the world, atmosphere, music and the whole road-trip thing, but I'm loving it thus far.

i'm expecting DLC. i got the Regalia suit from UCE. it's fucking amazing (in looks and the stats are ridiculous).

Well, just finished the game. The Ending is really nice but I need to sleep on it before I can make a serious judgment. Combat is super fun but the side quest variety is non existant, the narrative is trash for most of the game and the story is condensed in like 5-6 hours which compose the last chapters so...yeah...not really a fan of how it has been dealth with considering Kingsglaive made me hope for such an epic story and adventure.

You get two more after you finish the game.

Garrisons seem easy after you figure them out. The game does a shit job explaining how they play. They remind me more of a puzzle than an pure stealth game.

The best way I can describe my overall impression of XV is that I think it's a great game that had the potential to be the best Final Fantasy of all-time both in story and gameplay, but it doesn't quite live up to that potential.

Except for this moment or two that fell flat".)

Formouth spoilers:
I got the stealth stuff done no problem, even the waves of enemies at the end weren't a big deal but the last two bots burnt through some of my items.

While I didn't expect such a thing even after the 10 years wait, I kind of agree with you. I think it's great, and it's definitely my most enjoyable Final Fantasy since X, but the narrative prevents it from reaching full masterpiece level.

I'm still trying to find the right groove for combat. Is anyone playing exclusively in Wait mode? I've been trying both active and wait, and neither has really clicked for me, but wait gives me a more tactical feeling of control over the chaos.

I'm having a hell of time lining up warp points in wait mode, for whatever reason. They seem to be easier for me to spot and lock on while playing active.

I'm still early in the game, but I wish there were AI settings for the Noctus-bro's.

I thought I was going to like Wait mode, but I found that by the time I knew the game well enough to have a real plan, it was easier (and much smoother) to just stick to active.

If anyone hasn't unlocked Promptos finishing attack, DONT.

It is the loudest, most annoying low quality sounding thing in every battle. God I hate it

I may stream one day. Though, I am not a super talkative person when streaming. When I do, I mostly just respond to questions asked...

Just for the record, I was totally making fun of the people who say "hold circle to win". I love the combat. :p

I know. I was joking too. I love KH games combat and pretty much every FF battle system (exceptions being XII and XIII; tried real hard to like both but couldn't get behind them).

For most FF/KH games there's a primary button that deals offense. It's the systems that surround the combat system that give it depth and variety.

I tried Wait Mode and it was fine but I couldn't get over the half second of pausing at the end of a battle because you stop moving. Also Libra is useful but it takes far too long to scan difficult enemies, you can almost just test all three elements yourself in the time it takes to scan a toughie.

Ultimately stuck with Active Mode.

XII definitely takes the right mindset. Personally, I LOVED the gambits and made a game out of micromanaging them and laying off the controller as much as possible. But, that's not for everyone.

XIII takes a different mindset, too. You have to pretend you're more like the leader issuing out basic commands rather than controlling the game itself. It's actually really fun once you get the hang of it.

I need to finally play the KH games, but I'm waiting for HD remakes or something.

I love wait mode. I like the ability to dictate when I want to take a breather, scan for weakness, and plan my next move, especially against mobs of 7 enemies at once, (or 4 then a drop ship of magitek soldiers). If switching between locked on targets was more polished I'd like it even more but I always find myself attacking one enemy then all of a sudden attacking another in the fracas. I don't know how you active players stay focused on a certain enemy without the pauses.

I've been up for 30 hours, 20 hours on the game with some of that time afk. I continued from chapter 6 all the way to finishing chapter 13, i'm tired as fuck.

I'll say this, chapters 1 to 7 had some moments of quality. But the way they structured chapters 8 to 12 really got everything clicking it for me.

Chapter 13 can die in a hole.

You know, as much as I hate chapter 13 as well, I really really enjoy the boss fight near its end. Probably the most exhilarating and challenging boss outside of the penultimate final boss in the game.

I wish you guys would spoiler tag Chapter 13 impressions. We're not all there yet. Anyway, I'll be back after I complete it cuz now I'm expecting it to be garbage or whatever.

Alright. HOLY SHIT.

I got a PS4 Pro today. Jesus Christ guys. It's night and day on my 65" 4K/HDR Samsung. Like, WOW. On Lite or High, it's just plain fucking beautiful now. Game honestly seemed borderline ugly at times on my OG PS4 - you could see the jaggies/aliasing creeping everywhere and the general lack of color. The game is practically luminescent now.

Fucking wow.

I do not get the chapter 13 hate. I really think that's ridiculously short-sighted to think that way, just because it's not what you'd expect. Especially when:

-It starts you off with a whole new school of seriously overpowered magic
-It's basically the Draklor Laboratories dungeon. Its not THAT long.
-It makes perfect sense thematically to have you start a stretch of game stripped of all your shit and friends.
-And you get all your shit back before the end of the dungeon anyway.

And you even get to keep that new school of magic and Royal Arms as prizes...

Games are allowed to try something new from time to time. If they listened to you all, we'd have three games to choose from and everything out there would fit into one of those molds.
