So... got the $30 newegg deal on the XBO version... and it was 'delivered'... except I was here when the mail arrived and it didn't. So one of my neighbors got my game and I'll probably never see it, and Newegg (which are normally awesome) aren't giving me any option or recourse because it's a video game instead of a piece of hardware... so I guess I just wasted $30 -_-

Anyone find a good cash exploit yet? Not necessarily exploit, but you know what I mean.

Best I think I've found so far is to get the caviar in the Colosseum for 240k medals and sell it for 50k gil, but I haven't really tried to find anything better yet.

The reward for 99 treasure chests in Justice Monsters Five at Altissia can be sold for 500,000 gil. Takes roughly an hour to get.

It's been a few days and I'm curious if people's impressions have changed favorable, or worse?

Still on the fence here.

Generally, the plot suffers due to things being unexplained, too many things happening off-screen, and seemingly important characters getting little to no screen time.

Outside of that, there are some nitpicks that can be easily patched for QOL updates (for example the press x to pick up is obviously due to localization efforts. In japan, they don't have the "jumping instead of activating" issue).

Everything else I find to be damn great :)

Chapter 9. Still don't know how I feel about this game. I go from thinking it's decent to being really frustrated or kind of bored. Yesterday I was thinking I wanted to go for the Platinum, now I'm considering rushing towards the end and shelving it. There are just so many issues that get in the way of having fun that have been discussed here. It really feels like a studios first time at making an open world. Idk. I just hope the game sells well enough that XVI won't take forever to come out.
It's a good thing we're in the middle of flood of quality gaming right now.

That's not just chapter 3 sidequests, that's just when almost all of the sidequests open up. If you're going to do them all before moving on, you're gonna be there a loooong time :p

I wouldn't mind, tbqh. I really like how this area opened up, it's so much more beautiful and pleasant to explore, plus having chocobos helps out a lot!

Any tips for growing more carrots for gil? Is it better to wait a while after planting them or just take them out after each night? Does the field eventually let you grow everywhere?

Get a bit farther in that chapter and witness one of the worst setpieces in videogaming. Helped solidify a whole bunch of internal feelings for me.

I think ffxv fails in the major regard of plot and story telling. Thaf chapter 9 moment was just disappointing. Who the fuck
markets a character that much
for that pay off lmao it was pathetic.

I was having fun with the characters until chapter 10 where Gladio has soured on me. So right now I'm just enjoying the open world component. Can't wait to go back first chance that I get.

there's a major plothole in one chapter i came across last night. will hope it's resolved before it ends or i'm gonna be asking about it in Spoiler OT

Is getting armiger attacks story related? I have two weapons, but I don't see an option to go anime on these fools.

not a spoiler:
yes

Which are the 333 AP abilities worth investing in on the Ascension Grid? So far I have Air Dance and Impervious and I don't even see Impervious working.

Still on the fence here.

I feel like there's a framework for a great game here, but they failed to actually do much with it so far.

The UI is substandard, enviroments are too empy, there's not much variety.

The world just seems really weird and not believeable. Like there are more gas stations than actual NPCs.

So how do you heal other party members out of battle? It won't let me use potions on them and taking cover during doesn't seem to do it?

Ughh fuck whoever thought making Ignis give you a speech everytime you want to go out at night was a smart thing to do. So fucking annoying. Also is it just me or are the hunts where you have to kill 7+ mobs in a pack hard as fuck.

They'll heal themselves quickly. But if you're concerned about healing the max HP, you need elixirs for that, not potions.

I actually enjoyed my time with the game so far and I figured I would hate it, went in with the absolute lowest of expectations. The story is not coherent and told in the worst way possible. I was actually really digging the first half of the game but the second half kind of let me down. The driving wasn't so bad. All I would do is drive to each location once and then you could fast travel. What the game needed was a fastest route option where it would fast travel to the closest known location and then drive from there. The loading was really the killer with fast travel. Being a PC gamer with SSDs the loading was abysmal and really fucked the gameplay loop. Anything under 2m drive I just drove because my loading times for some areas were over a minute. Sometimes I would get a loading screen and then a second loading screen for a short time. Kind of a mess. A PC release with some tweaks could fix all that. The lack of anything as engaging as Triple Triad in terms of stuff to do in the world is a huge letdown. The hunts should have been less Kill 3 jacked versions of some scrub and more kill classic FF big bads. To me it doesn't feel like a FF game outside of the usual nostalgia hooks. There are some definite gameplay/story issues which are obviously tied to the games rocky development and the general trend the industry and genre are going but I actually like the game overall, still think it would have been a better spin off type series rather than a mainline FF. It is an 8/10 for me maybe a bit lower but I am feeling generous and rounding up.

So there's HP and Max HP. HP is the white bar, and Max is the bar behind that.

HP heals super fast out of combat and can be restored by Potions in combat.

Max HP is what goes down when you end up in the "Danger" state and regenerates really slowly out of combat and can be healed with Elixirs either in or out of combat.

The entire team HP recovers automatically after each battle pretty quickly. I think you're trying to recover the True HP bar that doesn't regen inside dungeons? You need to use Elixirs for those to recover.

He only shows up in the tutorial and easy mode, I'm afraid.

I meant the Carbuncle Surprise campaign SE ran before the game released, not the Platinum Demo.

I won a Cindy regalia skin (tacky AF) but I have yet to get the code or instructions on how to get it.

24 hours in, still enjoying it.

Playing post-game stuff.

Still loving this game. Such a wonderful experience.

I'm about 10 hours in playtime, on Chapter 3, and am still excited about the game and continuing on.

For comparison, I stopped playing Final Fantasy XIII at about the same time invested because I was bored to death.

I'm on chapter 12 right now. Still think the game is a constant mix of highs and lows, but the lows seem to be winning out. I don't think in the end I like the game all that much even if has its moments.

The game is crazy fun and has a really good foundation for the series if they ever wanna revisit something like this in the future.

I can't wait till I'm done with college finals to get back to it.

First couple of hours I thought it would be one of the best in the series but approaching 30 hours I think its a mixed bag and middle of the road. Story and characters are important to me in a FF and that's not this game's strength.

Took a bit to get used to the realities of the game compared to my expectations. My opinion has since solidified (though, I haven't completed chapter 15 yet, but I'm back on the open world getting geared up).

I'm like this the first time I play any Final Fantasy.

Then, inevitably (and this is certainly no exception) there's a point where it really clicks and I just plain love it and can't wait to finish it all up so I can play it all again.

I'm 13 hours in, Ch.4 I'm liking it.

The fun is that the most hated aspects for some I don't mind, like yeah story is slow and there's no much stuff going on but I don't really mind, and I love the open world of this game. I tend to like realistic open worlds though.

Combat is the only mixed bag for me. Sometimes its awesome and sometimes it makes me want to kick my PS4.

I'm about 40 hours in, about level 57, and running around during Chapter 8 (debating rushing the end to come back and do sidequests though).

Still love it. It's a lot of fun running around and doing all of the things you can do. Combat is fantastic (shitty duscae bushes + camera aside), and I like the party banter.

It does have its faults, but overall I'm still really enjoying it.

Thanks for the impressions, folks!

Though mostly positive, some people are not enjoying it as much as they hoped. It seems pretty clear the narrative and they way it rolls out is the biggest gripe for most people.

Where the fuck are these goddamn motherfucking headlights oh my god

It's near one of the switches you need to turn on before the boss.

From the beginning, head to the two ladders you can knock down and take the first one up. Once you reach a crossroads, head towards the gelatins and you'll notice a railing on one side with 4 tunnels underneath. Take the 3rd tunnel and it's down there.

On the topic of the DLC "episodes", by the end of the game it is glaringly obvious where each of the DLC pieces are going to take place for each character.

Gladiolus: When he disappears during the main story
Ignis: The story of how he lost his vision
Prompto: What happened after he fell off the train

All 3 should have been in the full game. They're sliced out chunks of the main story, not extra content. :/

The narrative is straight up garbage. One of the worst you'll ever see. I'm having a blast with the game though because the gameplay is terrific.

Finally got around to playing this on my own PS4 over the weekend after spending time at PSX.

I'm like a master at this game or something. I am killing it! :p

That's fair to say, but keep in mind some people also set some possibly unrealistic expectations over the years, too. You really need to play it for yourself. As far as the narrative goes, it's probably the roughest part and it's pretty uneven, but not everyone is hating it (one person's "hate it! but there was a couple of good parts" is another person's "Love it! Except for this moment or two that fell flat".)

Also keep in mind that for the most part, people are going to be talking about the things that annoyed them because you don't typically go to a forum to tell everyone that you're feeling OK about things :p

You gotta play it for yourself. It's really the only way. Everyone gets something different out of it.
