How are shields supposed to work?

Also, how do summons work? The prompt for Ramuh seems completely random, and it's just a one hit kill move for the most part.
They are half random but are more likely to show up based on the following conditions.

Ramuh shows up the longer the battle goes on.
Titan shows up the longer your team mates are in danger zone but he cannot be summoned in dungeons and indoor areas,
Leviathan shows up the longer Noctis is in the danger zone but you need to be near a large body of water.
Shiva is a combination of the above three.

As you can see, Ramuh is the one that is most likely to appear since you want your team and yourself to be out of the danger zone ASAP.

What about the rest of summons?

Ironically for me, it has been mostly Leviathan while Titan never showed up.

There's only 4 summons you can use. There's another 2 but they are story related only.

I mostly get Ramuh and Shiva. Only summoned leviathan once and it was to test the trigger condition, which sorta worked I guess but I only tested it once. Titan didn't show up even once for me since I always use a potion on downed mates.

Wait really? Didn't know that.
So Ifrit has no summon animation at all then? Lame.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
So how would you guys rank the summons

After 20 hours, I'm still loving the game... As for those complaining about magic friendly fire... I don't get it. It basically does no damage to your own team and it's more just annoying to hear prompto cry than it is a truly a threat to yourself.

It actually keeps you from using their tech

Uhm...there are some pretty fat late game spoilers on this page. Especially the gifs by piggychan. Are you guys alright with that? o_O

Not just that, but sometimes the game will consume tech points right before the friendly fire startles one of the party members.

That part of the game in the gif was in E3 trailer(Sony conference).

Well, Stopcast f'ed my party up pretty good. Doubly so, since if I was using magic in the first place, I was already boned.

Does Justice Monsters Five just go on forever? I'm not even paying attention to it, just kinda spamming x and I'm still going strong apparently.

So eh the game is coming today in the mail for my xbox one..said it a few pages back, first FF game i will ever play. I am more the guy who likes more modern rpg's with you know big open world, go anywhere do anything. So this will the game for me right?

Not i don't like JRPG's there just to me at least..from i did play in the past so lame.

Just finished. Good lord, what an ending. I loved it. And I loved this game, despite it's many flaws. I still wish we could have seen what Versus could have been, but I'm happy I got to experience this at all.

As someone who avoided every.single. bit of information about this game other than the first few Versus XIII screenshots way back when I thought it would be interesting to check out the trailers now after finishing the game. What an amazing trailer, this looked awesome. I suppose we got most of that, more or less. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcUSXub_ypU

A bit how I feel too. I absolutely love it but the story is quite literally the biggest mess because of they way it was told. I don't want to be an optimist since FFXV didn't meet my expectations on story but hopefully SE fixes it in the coming patches like they said.

Does anyone else love that Summons are these massive celestial beings, specifically the scale of them on this game.

Ever since I played my first FF, summons were always one of my favourite aspects of the game. It really feels like this is the size/level of power they were always meant to invoke, but couldn't due to software limitations.

Personally I feel they do suit a more, turn based, secluded battle scenario. I think due to the open world nature of this game, you see a lot less of them in FFXV. Where as I miss being able to summon them on command.

EDIT: switched a word.

These are some of the most impressive summons in the series' history imo

It baffles my mind why there are so few and they hid them behind obtuse summon methods

Summons are more than amazing but the story of them just lead me to not care about them unless I really need them. It sucks so much that
you can't summon Bahamut or Ifrit though
Those animations are gorgeous though.... funny when Titan clips through a mountain lol.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
I did Chapter 13 expecting a total shit show after reading this thread. Y'all are being way too dramatic. It's not even that bad. Shit, I thought it was pretty fun. Didn't feel that long either.

If you're calling this bad, you guys have never played an ACTUAL bad game.

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol

Seriously. People are treating Ch. 13 like it's the worst thing ever and I'm sitting here thinking "Dudes I was playing and enjoying Simple 2000 games back in 2005. This is nothing."

Final Fantasy XV: "Better than a Simple 2000 release!"

Does he have varied movesets/attacks?
No, he doesn't. It becomes tougher in the last ~20%, cause he attacks more, but with the same moveset of 2/3 moves . I could only use a summon after 5 minutes
Shiva
so now I guess you can use max 1 per battle. Is this confirmed or was I unlucky?

Chapter 6 and at lvl 40 and I have still yet to
set sail. They kept throwing things in the way until...

...eventually I said to hell with it and went back to finishing side-quests when it said "You won't be able to go back for a while."

Hope I'm not too op.

Ramuh seems to do two attacks, as well. One where he lifts Noctis up seems to be more powerful, and then he hangs around in the sky afterwards.

He's probably the most impressive visual in the game. It's always surprising when it cuts back and shows the outside of a dungeon or something.

I guess the weird pattern for the summon sign showing up coupled with the fuzzy button press and hold masks the load time.

This Liege of the Lake sidequest is so fucking annoying. Don't want to do it but it's a forced prompt at the camp site next to the lake, and I can't fish in that lake because the fish still seems to be in there.

I was level 47 when I finished the game and I had no problems with anything, so yeah you're probably going to be OP.

It's the same attack. He does the second when when you are indoor like dungeons, because it wouldn't make since for him to catch you there.

Immersion and all haha.

that puzzling face

I've fished that thing both before (right before, lol) and after the quest. Probably has nothing to do with triggers, it's just one of the fish in there naturally.

Oh boy, I think I got spoiled the ending a bit. That's what happens when you look shit on other forums. Seems like everyone's talking about some Versus leaks, and of course some people don't have care.

Oh well. I'm started to get used to this lol

I appreciate that the Summons are totally random, it really ties with the lore of them being deities that move according to their wills.

But i would appreciate some control over it.

My ideal system woud be a compromise: let me choose a fixed summon from the equip menu, add a bar in the UI that when filled i can activate the summoning (which refills slowly, so you can use it like once a day), then keep the long time required for the action, and then have a 50% chance of the summon actually coming. This way you have some control and choice over the system, while keeping the sense of unpredictability of their nature.

Is the Behemoth mission broken in I'm Chapter 3?

I am trying to leave the area but I get stuck in the wall.

You mean the wall where you jumped down from?
There's another exit behind the spot where Deadeye was resting.
