I love how Carbuncle just straight up almost isn't in this game at all.

Cheers for throwing him into your useless tutorial and nought anywhere else, Square :(

Wasn't it supposed to be a summon? I thought finishing the Platinum demo meant it would be. Maybe I'm mistaken.

That was my initial impression too, but from what I've heard he jumps in to save you in a pinch infrequently in Easy mode, and rarely enough to be a lottery win on Normal.

And that's it, supposedly.

Just got Ultima Weapon. Man it has way better damage than the upgraded Lance. Kinda sucks, because I like Lance moveset better but the sword seems OP damage wise.

Just realized I'm 5 hours into the game and I literally just got to Galdin Quay.

Yeah, this is gonna take a while. Loving every second though.

Am I playing the game wrong as I'm finding it very difficult. I'm at level 19 and in the middle of chapter 2, whenever the Magitek soldiers drop from their ships, whether they be the ones with guns or with swords, I've no option other than to run as they destroy me and my party in no time.

Am I supposed to be running from them at this stage if the game, or are there tactics/weapons/magic I should be using to make it easier?

I guess you could burn through curatives, sit back, wait for your technique metre to charge and chip away, but there's nothing wrong with running if it's too tough. There's really not any penalty for running out the red circle and ditching the fight, your team mates even get resurrected for free.

Stand near where they drop and throw a lightning spell at them once they're all down and bunched up. Insta-kills them all.

Also, try control type B if you haven't. It's unfortunate that it's not the default.

Leviathan. Just too long mess that you can barely control and then you get super powers and hold square and the camera can't keep up. No gameplay, no actual fighting, no skill involved. Complete shit show.

Yeah this was absolutely the worst part of the game for me. I had no idea wtf was going on –– I was just following prompts as they appeared. Completely took away from the preceding and following events.

Early on I used Gravisphere and mowed them down with a greatsword. Other than that, exploit their weaknesses (as you should with every enemy).

Just hold circle and square.

Apparently according to people in this thread that's enough to get you through everything.

But more seriously, you should try to do some quests to get AP and get abilities for your teams (techniques) and noctis. To make the fights a bit easier.

Or just avoid them until you level up.

You're a bit early in the game to have to grind, just go through until you reach chapter 3.

Huh, I liked it a lot. You can move anywhere you want, still lock on like normal, square still attacks, hold for a powerful homing barrage. To me it was like a playable cutscene, and felt close enough to the normal controls that it wasn't that confounding. Didn't have much trouble with camera, just relocked each time boss appeared. Great spectacle I thought.

OMG thank goodness for summons.

Noct and buddies were dead dead dead at the Chap 7
Quezcoatle (close enough) fight and I don't even know when my last save was and I was panicking but homeboy showed up and one-shotted that poor bird. Whew.

Just inserted the disc to start. I'm a bit late to the party but I have been on complete media blackout since the TGS trailer in 2014, only catching small glimpses here and there. Never tried any of the demos either. I really hope it's good.

Edit: Normal or Hard?

This was probably the most disappointing part of the game so far for me (on chapter 10 right now). It was just plain ugly to look at.

Man chapters really fly by once you get to Altissia.

Stopped early in Chapter 13 last night so I'll see what all the hate is about after work. :D

oh thank god you can beat Adamantoise in 20-30 minutes easily with the right setup. Was not looking forward to hours on that thing.

I've fished that thing both before (right before, lol) and after the quest. Probably has nothing to do with triggers, it's just one of the fish in there naturally.

I'm just going to avoid that spot in general.

There is no hard, only normal and easy. Definitely go for normal, easy is no challenge whatsoever, and normal can pose a challenge if you don't overlevel.

I blame S-E's promotional material that I ended up singing that Fast Lane Eminem song over the battle theme last night.

I also find myself playing Braver a lot when I drive the Regalia, even though I usually skip it during the more dubstep part :(

Yeah, it doesn't make sense. I assume the idea is that they go back to Wiz when you're not riding them, but if that's the case, then it should charge you daily for the rest of the game, not just during the rental period.

But I guess this would be pretty bad from a gameplay perspective.

Should be free post-game. I wish there was a quest where Wiz gives them to you permanently for doing something.

I really enjoyed the story revelations and change of pace/gameplay in chapters 10-12, NeoGAF had me worried but it's actually really okay.

Aranea FTW!
.

So I beat the game last night.

End game questions

Obviously spoilers

So Noct died fighting back the dark and OG Lucis. Got that.

After the first set of credits roll he's at a fire talking to his bro's. Does this take place before or after he kicked the bucket?

After the second set of credits roll it shows him on his wedding day with Lunafreya where they share a sweet moment. Are they both dead in King heaven or alive?

I'm mainly confused if this fucker is dead. I was sad as shit watching the ending.

I think it's implied
that they're together in the afterlife.

I did question it myself when I first saw it.
Thought it could be some weird thing where killing him took him out of the time line and everything happened as if Ardyn hadn't been influencing anything.
But no, I don't believe that to be the case. Especially with how
much of a big deal they make out of Notcis' death with the camp scene etc.

The only time I've seen Carbuncle outside if the tutorial is on one of Prompto's photos. He took a photo of Ignis near the diner at Hammerhead, and Carbuncle was just sat on the floor.
