So I'm on chapter 3, probably done way too many side quests and have a few questions....

1) Are random encounter enemies scaling to my level?
2) How does magic work? Is it just the elemancy tinkering?
3) Should I be leveling cooking? Where do I even go to cook?
4) My party keeps getting knocked out forcing me to use a lot of hi-potions, is this normal? Some of them seem to suck at not getting trapped in a swarm lol
5) What should I spend my AP on first?

I'm level 30ish

1. To my knowledge, yes. There's a point where stronger demons start spawning at night, and the random soldier ships get noticeably stronger. But in general, non-random-spawn enemies don't scale with you at all.
2. Pretty much. Use Elemancy to craft spells, then use them. I don't think there are a whole ton of different types of spells you can create, but I could be wrong on that (I've only made single element spells so far).
3. I don't think there's a pressing need to; as far as I can tell, it only gets you more recipes. You level Cooking by staying at campsites, instead of going to hotels.
4. Yeah, the party sucks. Grabbing Ignis' Regroup skill makes them suck slightly less.
5. ^ Ignis' Regroup skill, lol. Blink is surprisingly handy, since it actually lets you cancel animations (the tooltip doesn't mention that). A lot of people also swear by the air combat skills. Grabbing the "AP from driving" can also be kind of weirdly satisfying, if you like that sort of thing. I don't think there are any absolute "must have" skills, though. I've been grabbing most of the cheap ones and have been pretty satisfied with all of them.

Just my thoughts. I'm only like halfway through, so other people might have more to add.

The exploration stuff that gives AP for driving, chocobo riding and racing, fishing etc. is all highest priority next to Regroup imo. I've gained countless AP from that stuff and I'm still in Chapter 3.

Does anyone know what the point of platinum demo was? It doesn't have much to do with the game, right?

It's the dream adventure of Noctis when he suffered a grave injury as a kid.

Not relevant to the game, they're just using something an event in that world to contextualize a tech demo.

I'm so spoiled by trophies.

Really wish more of the post-game stuff were included in the list. ;^;

It's a roadtrip game, the epitome of journey > destination, and you don't want to experience the content because of a lack of an artificial reward at the end? :p

Is using dodge/phase (square) liberally generally a good idea in fights? I know you hold it during the dodge/parry popup, but what about during the rest of the fight, especially in a larger group? Not quite sure if I should spam that button to get behind, just run around, or hit X.

Not against enemies that take a lot of damage from you. But those HP-padded sponges, oh hell yes, you'll have to do your own phasing without prompts or glug up 20+ potions and god knows how much else.

In my 17 hours all i've learned is, when the enemy is a bitch, phase first, attack later.

My biggest problem with Costlemark is that the combat becomes a whole lot less fun when in tight corridors.

Also that one room.

So I just beat it...

So the end of the game was horrible.

yuck. I loved the first half too... it's a shame that it felt so rushed in the second half.

Is the post-game content worth doing? Or should I just sell this game to buy the last guardian?

I must be the only person here who had little to no trouble with costlemark. People complain about bombs all the time but magic destroys them and attacking them reduces their size so you have to switch between bombs so that they don't explode.

Or eat food that nulls elemental damage.

I'm having fun with this game so far. I'm in Chapter 8.

Oddly, despite having a good time....

1. The story is fucking terrible. Possibly the worst in any FF I've ever played (And that's about every single one). It makes absolutely no sense and half the time I have no idea why I'm doing the shit I'm doing....I assume it's going to get worse.

2. The combat is terrible every time you get in an area with walls or trees. Camera angles are just garbage.

And like I said.....somehow still having fun with it....

Chapter 13 question:

i read some story stuff is in papers you find but I haven't come across any. I just chased after Prompto. Are they later in this area?

There is an accessory.

That accessory lets Prompto take more pictures per day but does not increase the amount of pictures that you can save.

It was extremely annoying towards the end of the game to delete images before I could save new ones. I always had to search for several minutes for images that I thought I could part with. Very hard decisions. :/

Where's your soul man!

:(

Or are the type that just doesn't like tragic endings? If the bros didn't click for you then I can understand where you're coming from.

I liked the bros. The storytelling was just shit.
A missed opportunity for sure, but still better than XIII though.

OK cool, thanks! How far am I from the end? Trying to decide if I want to stay up later tonight and beat it if I'm close.

The chapter is very long. I'd say you're only about 2/5 of the way in.

You can beat the rest of the game in a
few hours or so if you rush.

Oh man, the
group photo
at the end of Episode 8. So good.

I still don't get why some people say the story is confusing. So far it's been pretty straightforward. Unless it falls off a cliff on the second half it should be good.
It's totally gonna fall off a cliff on the second half, is it.

29hrs in, lvl 38, Chapter 6. This game's characters and world have their hooks in me. It's going to be a rough week both because of exams and not being able to play.

Wow really? Hmm.. And how long are the last chapters? Short?

Yes. It kind of does. Lol

Yeah kinda. I mean it's not terrible but there are numerous times where I was just like "uhhhhhhhhh.....what?"

Costlemark help please!
I've gone down three times and just killed the 3 iron giants and the 2 nagas, a new cube opened up and all the old ones are still available. Do I take the new one?

Oh I got regroup, that seemed pretty obvious

Thanks for the answers
One of the best tips i had was that you need to watch the colour of your damage numbers when you hit an enemy. Purple means an enemy has good defense against that weapon, white is neutral and yellow means it weak. So if your heavy sword produces purple numbers try switching to daggers or something.

I'm really glad I cancelled my Ultimate Collector's Edition a couple months ago. All I've read on GAF has convinced me that I wouldn't like the game. I've been skeptical about the game ever since its reveal and the first gameplay footage was released. I'm not a fan of open world games or action RPGs and story is the most important part of Final Fantasy to me. I may buy it in a year or two when the price is lower and hopefully a complete edition with all the DLC is out. I had a free PSN download code for the game offered to me a few days ago, but I didn't redeem it because I don't like being indebted to anyone, but I may end up using it and just getting the game for free.

Towards the end? Had to do it last night on Chapter 3 :C

Already married.

That level 99 hunt I needed to do for the trophy made me question why I play video games

Its long, not hard. Really sucks that you can't limit break warp strikes. Was doing 9999 almost every first strike, but thats still like 500+ hits to kill it. It was tedious and kinda pointless, didn't even come close to killing the party. Prompto died once, but Prompto always dies at least once.

I think this game is worth the price of 0$. You might even end up liking it.

I wasn't planning to get this anytime soon, but it's very tempting with Best Buy's B2G1 sale... What is the consensus on which is the best version (performance wise) between PS4 and XB1?

I also wonder when specifically they plan to "fix" that questionable chapter. I was talking to a buddy of mine and he said up until reaching that specific segment, it (FFXV) was a must buy. After having to trudge through it, he said to wait for a price drop. That chapter must be awful for him to say that (he's an avid FF fan).

So what the heck does Prompto's Star Shell technique do? I couldn't tell if it actually weakened a daemon. Does it actually agro an enemy towards Prompto? If so, that's kinda funny because he's the last person that needs more enemies on him.

ps4 is the better version.

chapter 13 sucks. it's better if you don't play through it in one sitting.

the game is still fun.

Damn, chapter 9. Intense. I really liked the set piece battle and cg.
I didn't care that I didn't observe Ignis lose his vision. I don't get what the empire is up to - like I get Ardyn has his own agenda, but how incompetent is everyone else? How can the bros hop right on a train in imperial territory? Doesn't anyone recognize them?

I really have enjoyed the story up until chapter 13.
No one is incompetent. There's a reason Ardyn is getting away with the things he is.

Push on. I think this game has some rough spots that need to be surmounted to enjoy the full extent of it right now...
