Finished the game last night at close to 40 hours. I really enjoyed the whole game with the exception of Chapter 13 and 14, which were pretty much a consistent garbage fire. But the ending was really swell. Gonna spend some time with the post-game content before moving on to The Last Guardian.

The cutscene on the boat to Altissa made me realize that everything in this plot is being treated like a MacGuffin.

The summons.
The ring.
The crystal.
The royal arms.
Heck, Luna might count.

Why are Noctis and co. chasing them? Well, why not? They all do good stuff, or something.

If you're doing the sealed dungeons, make sure to start with the Steyliff Grove one.

Have fun

Something I failed to mention in my previous post is how much I'm enjoying the dungeons in this game. They really nailed the feeling of exploring a dangerous, desolate place (specially with the character banter, sound design and a few scripted sequences going on to enhance the atmosphere) and are just pretty well made.

I didn't really having a problem staying alive. It's my team that kept dying. It's a battle that really make the lack of commands actions apparent.

I'm not to that fight yet, but I've run into the same problem in a boss fight. Kinda annoying that they sit in front of a massive aoe with nothing you can really do unless you have tech bar available

Yep. Terrible terrible narrative.

I think it is. Also, I just got to chapter xv. Why am I fighting super high level monsters.

I had the same question. I ended up running from everything until I got to the throne building gate.

This is awesome. Hot damn!

The basic premise is to reclaim the throne. To do that Noctis needs power. And he will acquire power wherever it is. You can go after more than one thing in a game.
And you do use all of these items at the end of the game to defeat Ardyn and Ifrit. It is also explained (and shown) why Noctis needs all of this power throughout the game.

Hell in XIV, you are constantly in a roller coaster back and forth between keeping the Primals at bay and fight the empire and restore Eorzea. It all serves the same end goal in bringing peace to the world but they constantly rubber band between those three things at a moments notice.

Heck in XIII, the group was running, but also fighting, but also trying to figure out their focus, while also... Actually I am not sure what the groups goal was for most of that game...

Point is, characters in stories can have multiple goals. There doesn't have to be a single solution to fix everything.

My internet sucks so I haven't downloaded the 9gb day one patch.

I've gotten to chapter 2 and i'm really enjoying the game so far. Combat is great, the pacing has been good so far but i've heard complaints in that regard overall.

Have I missed anything by not waiting for the patch to install?

Does it really last 5hours though.

It's not really the item I would be doing it for.

I'm not sure exactly how long it took me because I put my PS4 in suspend mode halfway through, but it was probably like 2.5 to 3 hours for me. I also enjoyed those hours, though.

This is probably kind of a hard question to answer but about how many Rare coins would I need to go from level 49 to 99?
Iirc
I needed 24 rare coins (3 sets lv96 expericast - total 15 spells)
50 debased coins(2 sets of lv99 expericast - total 18 spells)
To get 1million XP (3 million after hotel)

3million xp took me from lv62 to lv99 with 900k xp leftover
So that should be enough to go from 49 to 99 too

So imma guess u will need at around 48 rare coins if u don't use debased coins

I feel so bad for developers that painstakingly detail little things in games only for players to run right past them. Just did the
Greyshire Grotto
story dungeon at level 45 and it's really nice looking.

I'm honestly kind of loving the depressing/melancholic feel of chapter
10
. The complete shift in tone of the music & voice acting (which honestly has been excellent in English so far aside from a few side characters like Altissian secretary) works really well to get the emotional response they want out of you.

The game definitely has issues with the way the story is told & presented, but then it does certain things like this almost perfectly.

I only wish
the train wasn't on a timer (or so it seemed). I love trains. But I agree, loved the feel of the chapter post chapter 9.

Just did the quest to investigate the earthquakes, missed who it told me I could collect the Adamantoise hunt from.

Who has the quest and what hunt level is it please?

So, is the optional dungeon that's only accessible
while flying
worth actually doing?

I remember Kotaku mentioning it took Jason like 5hours to complete. I'm not sure I have the endurance for that much
platforming in a non-platforming game
. I mean I know it gives a nice item, but, 5 hours....?

So, I just finished the dungeon in 5 hours. (gameplay and dungeon spoilers)
The dungeon is really well designed: the platforming on display is really high quality, and could match what I have played in a platformer like Jak & Daxyer the Precursor Legacy quite well. However, as you mention correctly, this game is not a platformer, and you notice it. The only reason it took me 5 hours was because of the countless times I had to redo parts of the dungeon because I fell off a ledge due to the poor (for platforming) controls. It gets really frustrating, and that is a shame, since the levels are beautifully made. All in all, I would say it was worth the extreme effort for me, but just barely (talking gameplay and item and level design payoff combined). I am a very patient person, and even I had trouble keeping cool after falling for the millionth time from a ledge that is way too small for the accuracy afforded by the game. If you are not very patient, then I would not recommend the dungeon: it gets on your nerves many times.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it was. It stopped me while I was in the middle of listening to a radio broadcast lol

Just killed Zu in about 10 seconds while being 3 levels under level. The meal at that outpost is crazy, +400 attack and infinite sprint. Hit it with a unicast, then an armitage which made it vulnerable, and wiped it out before the armitage even finished.

The difficulty fluctuations in the game can be crazy.

Takka, the bartender at Hammerhead. It is a level
99
hunt (though easily doable at lower levels,
IF THE FREAKING GAME DOES NOT GLITCH YOU OUT OF THE BATTLE DAMMIT!
.

I got glitched out a Sir Tonberry battle last night after about 15 minutes when I had the last one all but killed, very frustrating. Won't even try that again until I'm over leveled.

Is it just me or does the difficulty really spike in the end? My bros are getting hammered constantly. Never had this problem throughout the whole game.

Heh, that's nothing. I have fought the Adamantoise three times now, and each time I got knocked out of the battle after a full hour of chiseling away at it. The third time I even had its hp so low that I could no longer see it; I would have died within the minute the game hadn't thrown me out of the battle circle. I still get pissed thinking about it right now. Hope they fix this bug as soon as possible, I don't want to miss defeating it because something as ridiculous as this bug.

Is there a good list of which outposts have which hunts? I'm interested in doing some of the unique higher level ones before I jump into sealed dungeons, but it is kind of annoying hopping around outposts.

Are you talking about Chapter 14? If so, (chapter 14 spoilers!)
The area before you reach citadel has some monsters that you do not have to fight. They are there more as postgame content, I think, than as actual monsters to fight in chapter 14. As you can see, some are level 70+, which does not line up in any way with the recommended level of the quest (45).

Sorry about double post.

Yep. Just read a post asking how many rare coins they need to get to lvl 99. Is this a mechanic introduced later? Would like to learn more

It is a spell you can craft (called expericast or something like that) for which you need a significant amount of rare or debased coins. Using that spell multiple times in a battle against a strong enemy will grant you enormous amounts of experience (like, multiple 100k).

You can craft it immediately
But it's best to wait until ch8 when you unlock 3x exp hotel and 2x exp food

Adding debased/rare coins/banknotes to a spell creates the expericast effect
The more you add. The stronger the expericast is(up to lv99)

And the effect stacks when you cast it on a monster

Also stacks with exp food

So a monster that normally gives 2000xp can net you 200k-300k XP instead
Which you then triple in a hotel

I'm reaching about 70 hours in and going strong. Still missing two of the Royal arms, just need to complete the dungeons. I'm having to much fun just exploring and doing sidequests. Kinda wish there was a way to explore in
World of Ruin
, oh well. Looking forward to future updates and additions. Gonna start a new game once that happens.

Yeah, it'd be awesome to roam around in the
world of Ruin
, it an incredible atmosphere of danger surrounding it. Maybe they can add it later on in a patch (or, you know, maybe it will be part of some DLC expansion).

Uh... went back to the secret dungeon location and
I semi-crashed my car but it still let me park. It's damaged and I can't fly out of here now... what the hell do I do?? Lol

Maybe it's the fact that the
CGI
in Chapter 9 was incredibly touching, but i find Luna to be a compelling figure, with an interesting personality and a tragic story.
The problem is not within the character herself, but the
lack of screetime and the premature death.

I hope they can improve on these aspect a lot with the future updates, because i think she's kind of a more dramatic version of Yuna, and i like it.

Which one?

Well, it's a spoiler for that game. D
ragons Dogma. Last chapter is also the world in perpetual nightime state, with the same green hue and the ashes floating, and full of demons everywhere.

Anyways, loving
Old Noctis
, not loving that the ending is gonna be
Kingsglaive 2.0 again.

I agree with you, Luna is a very powerful figure and the explanation of her role in chapter
9
was really nice. Shame she has
limited screen time, because of this she does not really develop too much as an individual separate from her duty and destiny.
