Think I'd rather have had Nyx as the main character than Noctis..

Ah well, can;t be bothered to watch Brotherhood, time to start

So just finished watching Kingsglaive and FFXV Brotherhood. Enjoyed them way more than I expected, especially Kingsglaive after all the poor reception and impressions. Game is installed, patch has downloaded and everything's ready.

Starting it up now!

Dude yes!!!!!!!!! Enjoy! Doing it right!

So I'm 2 1/2 hours in and haven't even really touched the story yet. Literally still on chapter one and pretty much just left hammerhead. This is gonna be a long ass game for me.

Wtf how you dragging your heels that much? There isnt even much to do at that point lol

Halfway through Kingsglaive. Thoughts:

-Nyx is cool as fuck
-CG/animation is mindblowing, some nice cinematography at times
-story is doing a great job at world building, I feel like I have a much better grasp of everything now
-Luna is likeable, I like that her relationship toward Noctis isn't one-note and she and Regis have excellent chemistry in their scenes
-editing sucks
-voice performances really work except Libertus
-solid fanservice, music, usage of Somnus
-tons of little familiar details between it and the game like the ringtone
-story is well directed, has good pacing with only a bit too much exposition after the intr
-Crowe
was utterly wasted

Enjoyable. Does its job. Hope it stays that way but it could go anywhere.

Okay, I'm going to be sincere. I'm a huge FFXV fanboy and I usually turn a blind eye on this game's criticism like Cindy, the transmedia universe and all of that. But I'm highly disappointed by the story presentation.

The story IS good. The characters ARE good. The introduction has so much potential. And it's not like the game doesn't explain what is happening, is that the game brushes off any weight these events have on the characters. Okay, we don't see the Insomnia downfall, that's part of Kingsglaive and I'm fine with it, but why is Lunafreya introduced in a non dialogue cutscene after the game spends 5 hours talking about her? Why isn't her relationship with Noctis explained before we move into other things? Why is this Niflheim general attacking me like its personal when he hasn't even appeared in any FFXV related media before?

There's not a lack of cutscenes, there's a lack of presentation in the cutscenes. When Cor
gives his speech at Noctis in the first tomb
, it could have been a bigger moment, but it feels flat and shallow. And it's not because of the characters, it's because every scene in the game so far it's like they wrote an outline of an hypothetical final scene and then forgot to work on them.

I just finished Chapter 2 and so far, I think it's the FF experience I'm enjoying the most since FFIX, but I'm really annoyed because I kept trusting that the storytelling complaints were just going to be exaggerated. Cor's involvement into the chapter 2 events needed an character arc, not a phone call. The world of Eos needed a narrator type of video introduction and not an optional prologue in the tutorial. And let me not even start on the whole deal with Chapter 0, which still makes absolutely no sense to me.

Everything else is great tho, 8,7/10.

I don't really understand the combat. I'm mostly holding circle and occasionally getting knocked over by an attack I couldn't see coming.

Did you do the tutorial...? its long and slow as hell but it shows pretty much everything...its a lot to absorb in one shot though...use warp, use the L1 d-pad to give a command to the 3 others etc etc...

Still unsure on that lock system though...I am all over the place with it.

I don't know what to think about that game. I feel like I really do like it, because of the atmosphere, the "boyband" and all those little details. But I also dislike major things.

I mean the combat looks good and feels good, but sometimes I am not sure if this is what I really want. It feels difficult to get used to it.

I played Lightning returns and it was horrible. Also because of those very bad sidequests and to be honest it feels like this again. I actually woukd prefer a more linear approach and a bigger focus on quality and story.

Ignis: "You've grown stronger, Noct."
Noctis: "Must be thanks to my balanced diet."
Ignis: "You mean the one that excludes vegetables?"
Noctis: "Yep, that's the one."

Oh man I'm already enjoying the banter more than I was expecting to.

Wow, the graphics are amazing! And I'm not playing on a Pro, just a regular PS4. You sure the frame pacing isn't fixed? Seems buttery smooth so far. And I would be lying if I said I didn't tear up a tiny bit when stand by me played.

Finally to start this adventure after so long...

My worry after watching Kingsglaive is that the banter and joking around is going to feel completely out of place with what's going on elsewhere.. Of course I don't know how soon into the game they learn about events though..

Ok, finished Brotherhood. Kinda of liked it more than Kingslaive, even if I had problems with it too (why Insomnia looked like a regular japanese town?)

Anyways, now I'm ready to start playing.... I just need my carrier to find where my copy is lol

It's the PS4 Pro HQ mode the one with big framepacing problems. OG PS4 and Pro Lite mode barely have framepacing issues.

Had the best moment so far. It's nighttime, a storm started, and I walked back to the entrance to the Crown City. Random I know but it was so cool, the atmosphere was amazing. People sneezing everywhere and complaining about being sleepy lmao. Plus I found
an entrance to a level 45 dungeon. Can't wait to explore it (in 30+ hours)!

Amen brother.

I share very similar thoughts. Quoting myself from earlier in the thread:

-Cutscenes so far lack 'punch'? Example: Reuniting with
Iris
was not emotional at all. Glad should be relieved as fuck to see her, and they should be bombarding her with questions about Insomnia, yet...none of that happens.

It's annoying because everything else is great imo. Like 10/10 for me.

Get better writers SE :p

I may never finish chapter 3. Almost 19 hours played now, still done no actual main story content since getting to chapter 3 about 10 hours in.

It's 5:21 pm and UPS still hasn't delivered my copy yet :(
I feel you sir Amazon was supposed to ship on Friday, then delayed that to Monday. I get the tracking info fi ally last night and Amazon is saying the shipment is on its way and Canada Post is saying they haven't Recieved it yet.... FML.

So the 2nd day...at 6.3 hours now. Going at a pace of 3 hours a day so far.

I have heard so much about the story on here. So I will start with what I thought of it as I finally finished chapter 1, 2 and I'm on 3 now. So a few events here and there happened.

I found the cutscenes emotional in the last chapter. I felt the
seeing Insomnia from the clifftop was done well, the Cor scene felt natural, not forced, not overly melodramatic. The Luna intro scene was gorgeous...no words needed to be said. Her showing the ring to Aranea and the way she looked at her said it all.

Now it's not perfect, and I wish we had 10 times the amount of cutscenes we do...but the emotional gravitas did hit me. Maybe it's also because I actually genuinely care for these characters as they are fantastic! And that has made a hell of a difference in how the story is being received by me now.

Anyway now to the bad...I'm already feeling open world fatigue. It has crept in...and it usually leads me to stop playing the game. But this is a FF so I will carry on. My strategy is to literally follow sub quests/lore based pointer quests and of course do the main quest. There is no point for me to keep doing these boring hunts. I hate it.

The feeling of driving into
duscae
with archylte steppe from FFXIII playing was incredible though. Fab. And fisherman's horizon is always on in my car too.

The photo mode is amazing. Prompto is the best bro anyway...but his photo skills is such a unique thing bout this game. Really makes the roadtrip aspect come alive!!

The battle system....okay I know I said I found it meh yesterday, but boy has it grown on me today. Something has clicked and I am enjoying it much much more.

The world continues to be the best bit too...despite the open world gameplay mechanics boring me to tears...its design and what it means is grand, epic and charming.

So the game continues to be good. But I just realised what feels missing here as it did in MGSV. The game does not feel like an event...not yet anyway. There is no grand narrative nor polished, well directed cutscenes that make it feel like a blockbuster title like FF's used to be. And that is horrifyingly disappointing.

You know it's bad when Star Ocean 4 and Lightning Returns have better directed cutscenes than you do (purely direction...the content of XV's scenes is admittedly light years ahead of those games).

Okay, that fucking DING DONG every time you shop makes my dog bark like crazy. She jumps up and runs to the door yipping her head off.

It's like the game is trolling her.
