Just downloaded it. Is anyone else finding the awesome bar all messed up? It's not giving me the same pages like in 3.6 when I type something in. Like in 3.6, I type in "ne" in the address bar to bring up GAF, in 4 I type in "ne" and get a load of random pages :/

Going back to 3.6.
I think it might prioritize by how often the letters "NE" occur in an example like that. Which seems really weird.

I really don't see why I should go back to Firefox after my switch to Chrome. I really dont think firefox does anything better the way I use the browser.

Just installed it.

Ok, what the fuck is wrong with the fonts? I can't read it this way.

Welp, FF has been disappointing me for a long time. I'm gonna try Chrome.

Still uses so much memory...

Unless your on a box that's 5 years old or earlier does this really matter? Fuck baseline today is 2 gigs and most people have 4 now even in laptops. So this ram issue for all browsers isn't a big deal. Memory leaks are the thing we still need to watch for in all browsers though.

BTW Nice to see it coming. I thought from what I read in the previous beta thread it might get pushed back with another RC release filling the gap!

Finally with this release all the major browsers have had big updates so no matter what you choose as long as you're up to date you should get an extremely fast modern experience!

That's what I said earlier. It's like they applied anti aliasing to everything, even thought it didn't need it.

You can thank Microsoft for that.

Because Firefox is hardware accelerated it's using their new DirectWrite API for the text.

It's the same for IE9 and Chrome (if you turn on hardware acceleration)

That really sucks.

Also, I tried Chrome and it won't import my bookmarks from Firefox.

WTF????

Did they swap the order of "Open Link in a New Tab/Open Link in a New Window" when you right click on a link? I find myself opening a new window instead of a new tab all the time now. Changing stuff like that when you have 8 years of muscle memory is infuriating.

I always just middle click to open a new tab.

What exactly does hardware acceleration do for me? If I turn it off, it fixes the font problem.

It makes your browser awesome. It uses your graphics card to do most of the heavy lifting and lets your browser use the full power of your computer.

I would honestly keep it on.

I switched to Chrome a few months ago. May go back or at least try it for a while due to the fact that Firefox has a superior AdBlock extension.

I'm at work right now and can't really try it but does this actually open quickly now? The biggest problem I had with Firefox was that it took forever to load initially compared to Chrome with just the most basic add-ons installed (the same add-ons I have installed in Chrome). Does this version fix that? Does Firefox instantly open when I click the icon like Chrome does?

The only reason I use Firefox anymore is because the Firebug addon is so much better than the Chrome version but I only use that at work so I can't imagine what this does better.

Just installed it, Firefox is having trouble with my second monitor. Didn't have time to look the problem, so I installed chrome instead.

Can't put the status bar anywhere, it just pops a white rectangle when you have your mouse on a link, or when loading a page...help? It's distracting.

Also, smart bookmarks bar addon doesn't work, hence the bookmark bar looks like shit (I want every bookmark to show just the icon while folders show icon & label).

Oh well :/

ClearType helped me with IE9.

Try tuning it properly.

I keep hearing concern about memory footprint.

How little RAM do you guys have that web surfing is a problem?
I'd like to know that as well. Unless you have less than 1GB I can't see it being a problem at all.

At home I dont give a shit because my pc has 12gb of ram but on my 6yr old work machine it does...

<3 the last RC, so I'm gonna assume the final version is good as well.

The browser seems to have come a long way, because I got sorta annoyed by it months ago that I went to Chrome. But since the last 2 or 3 beta versions, the browser works like a charm on my pc. Very little memory usage, fast, smooth, good UI, many extensions, quicker cold startup than before, ... I'm actually afraid of upgrading to the final version because I've got this fear that the exceptionally low memory usage is just some lucky freak coincidence, and reinstalling the browser will undo it, haha. :) I swear, the browser never goes over 250mb of ram usage, regardless of what I'm doing in it.

  • Chrome still faster on cold startup
  • Chrome tends to lock for a second when loading heavy sites, FF doesn't
  • Chrome has this annoying thing where the page goes unfocused when you scroll. So typing on a page, than scrolling, and then continuing typing is impossible as the cursor is gone. It also makes a combination of mouse scrolling and space bar scrolling impossible. FF doesn't have that problem.
  • Chrome has a few extensions that FF doesn't, but FF also has a few that Chrome doesn't. Shucks.
  • FF awesome bar is soooooo much better than the Chrome address bar, it's not even funny.

So I'm hopping from Chrome to FF again for the time being.

Going back to 3.6.

Mine is running great. Probably the feature I want most in Chrome. Digging 4 so far.

I only have 1 gig atm.
I don't really suffer too many problems except when downloading something. It freezes the browser for around 10 secs and then kicks in.

Might switch back to chrome.

Does this version fix the startup lag and random hiccups?
This? It always freezes for me in the beginning for few 5-10 seconds.

Also some guy on chat just said 3 tabs running and ff is using 2gb of ram?

I was a devout Firefox fan for the longest time, but then Chrome stole me away with it's quickness, and lightness.

I'll give Firefox 4 a shot to win me back.

I'm having a weird issue with it. When I change themes with my Conduit toolbar it moves the toolbar above the navigation bar. Besides that it's pretty good.

Does FF automatically update from RC's to the final version? It says my browser is up to date, while it's a RC version from a week or so ago.

RC2 is most likely the same as the final version.
