First AAAA game in my opinion

I am talking about Death Stranding 2.

The game is very deep in any aspect, be it gameplay loop, story, lore - you name it.
It is very polished, after 40+ hours of play I am yet to experience any bug, what was last big title that polished? I cannot say.

Gameplay is very addictive which is what makes games great after all.
It looks so good.
UI is masterpiece.

Everything you discover in this game tells you that it was made by gamer to gamers, using virtually infinite budget.

Kojima is not only great game designer as it looks, but also know how to produce games from technical perspective what is also an art of its own.

As a bonus this game is exclusive on PS5 end uses proprietary engine, which adds some notion of specialness to this game, if you catch what I mean.

First genuine AAAA game, recommended by random guy in internet: me.

hahahahahaha

No.

Just no.

Such as bad take.

graphics and gameplay are great.

story is complete and utter gank, and it is told poorly.

Not having a bug makes it an AAAA game ?

Also, why would you have bugs when you do nothing but do nothing but be a mail man in a game? its almost like they are trying to prepare young gamers for their future.

"You are going to be a delivery man, you are going to encounter freaks and weird people in your journey." this is the game for you to teach you how.

DS 2 and 1 are not AAAA games. Even an AAA game is in doubt outside of the nice cutscenes and graphics ( not even his engine, he borrowed it from Sony ) .

Don't participate to the conversation if you're about to only write no as a first reply, how old are you, 7?
Sorry, that was a bit dumb yes. But I don't see it. It looks great yes and not much bugs but there is basically not much happening besides small events and a couple of respawning enemies. It is a looker tho. But not beyond AAA

Are you guys high on something with these threads about DS2?

You like it, it's nice, we get it. I like it too.

But no: it's definitely not the best looking game ever, and no, it doesn't have "new" or "higher" standards compared to other games (it's the other way around: too many games have lowered standards so much, and idiot gamers gobble everything up, so we end up with very skewed perceptions, but I digress).

And this without arguing about subjective qualities, like story, writing, gameplay loop (that do have weak spots, as with almost anything).

It's a very good package (cutscenes are outstanding), that gives lovers of the franchise exactly what they want.

One could argue that it's too much that, and that some aspects of the game were paired back to cather to a wider audience (which isn't inherently a bad thing).

Nothing wrong with producing a sequel, we almost exclusively play those kind of game these days. I don't get why we do need to celebrate it like it's some kind of miracle.

As a bonus this game is exclusive on PS5 end uses proprietary engine, which adds some notion of specialness to this game, if you catch what I mean.

That's also a negative, since it's quite apparent that it uses an engine designed for last-gen, which lacks true next-gen features, and doesn't look that much different from the ps4 pro version of DS1 (cutscenes aside), even after 5 years and a new console.

imo the 4th A should be additive features. Like the sign language accessibility option or a VR mode. I'm aware it's a cost thing, but I'd rather see it as what is being offered.

Nah, it is missing the story part... And it has other problems too.

GTA VI would be the first since it has the three core things going for it, lots of sales, Great gameplay, and a huge budget.

The other AAAA games would be Elder Scrolls VI, Witcher 4, and Fallout 5.

Pretty much, a game where after 8 years they stll discover hidden details.

Production values wise, only rockstar games are real AAAA.
Yep, this game could be AAAA except it is mostly considered boring (including by me), but production wise indeed it reaches new heights, even higher than DS2.

AAAA games don't exist, nor will they ever exist.

Srsly tho.
I had a day off on sunday.
Played death stranding 2 for like 6 ish hours.
It's fun, fuck the side missions tho.
I like the bitesize mission it's perfect for switch 2.

But fantasy life i… that game nailed gameplay it was crack.

But then again. DS2 looks lit on ps5 pro.
It's just more of game one.

"AAAA" is a matter of costs, not overall quality

This. If you really like a game, you can just say that it's a masterpiece. You don't have to try to force it into a new category where it doesn't fit.

Ironically, most games that might qualify as "AAAA" by budgetary standards are boondoggles that got trapped in development hell and still released incomplete (see: Skull and Bones). So if anything being called AAAA is a red flag.

I dunno what you would call it but there are certain games that just have that additional touch. The production values, music, editing, story, detail.
Yea, Red Dead, GTA, Kojima games to name a few. Love em or hate em.

AAAA doesn't mean you liked a game.

It means having a budget way higher than the average AAA games, where nowadays work around maybe 1500-3000 people (case of Death Stranding 2) and are developed in around 4-7 years and have budgets of maybe somewhere around $150M-$350M.

AAAA games are those who did cost way beyond that. Maybe because they did take more time (let's say 7-11 years) or because way more people worked on it (there are cases of 7000-9000 people).

A few examples of some of the biggest amount of people I saw credited for a game:
  • CoD Black Ops 6: 9,106
  • Diablo IV: 8,755
  • Far Cry 6: 6,846
  • Skull & Bones: 5,927
  • Assassin's Creed Valhalla: 5,715
  • Fortnite: 5,480 (back in 2017, must have considerably grow since then)
  • Starfield: 3,902
  • Spìder-Man 2: 3,576 (this one had a >300M budget)
Please notice that Ubisoft is a rare case where they credit absolutely everyone who worked in a game including external localization teams, dubbing, CG, etc. when in many cases for some of these external teams they only credit the company or a few of their bosees.

I think I would define AAAA as a game with a development budget of over $1 Billion.

The production value of Death Stranding 2 is without a doubt AAAA-tier. No one with more than 4 functioning brain cells would disagree with that.

The visual fidelity, the character quality, the curated music, the way the cutscenes are directed; it's all AAAA-tier.

Too bad the game itself both in gameplay and in story fucking sucks.

Correction. AAAA means absolutely nothing.
