First PS5 Pro Box Images Reveal Compact Packaging, PS5 Pro Enhanced Label On Game Boxes

As a playstation fanboy, I feel that currently playstation has lost a lot of excitement, atleast for me. Especially stark compared to ps4 where excitement level usually used to be through the roof. Know it's probably just me, but seriously feel like that.

I put SSD in my PS4 Pro day one. So I already have the feature most people say was this gens best upgrade (fast loading, snappier user experience). Add in crossgen effect, and ample PC ports, I can't be arsed with PS5 but had expected to give in around the time VR came out. The value proposition isn't enticing enough. But if you had nothing but a potato PC to go online and just want a console, PS5 is probably the best investment, go Pro or snipe a $250 used one off FB marketplace...

SSD is a nice upgrade for PS4, I did it myself, but it is not even close to as fast as the PS5 internal drive.

Maybe not but it's like upgrading from HDD to SATA SSD in a PC. The marginal benefit from SATA to nvme isn't even close. But if you are on HDD the upgrade is utterly critical.

This guy is in every ps5 pro topic. You are consistent AF.

What percent of people own an 8KTV?

Are you guys afraid of me or something? It became really personal to you, piece of plastic without disc drive :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Just like mentioned above, first time PS5 console actually supports 8k (no lies like before) and they don't bring back that logo, it's ironic and hilarious at the same time.

Only a weirdo doesn't see why it isn't on the box.

Back in 2020 when the PS5 launched, there was potential for a big push towards 8KTVs. That push largely flamed out, especially as broadcast struggled even to adopt live 4K. The FCC's decision not to make ATSC3 mandatory was a major contributor in this, but it largely comes down to the inability to create a significant amount of 8K content. You throw in the European regulations on energy use for TVs and that's game over for 8KTVs right now too.

So in 2024, Sony asking themselves if marketing for 8K makes sense, and the answer is clearly no, but somehow that's ironic and hilarious?

The PS3 had 3D capabilities... the PS4 and PS5 do not. The PS5 doesn't play Audio CDs... You could see this as an "ironic" step backwards, or what it really is, which is just market realities...

I found that interesting too.

So what, are they expecting 8k gaming somewhere within the next 4 years before the next-gen console is out?

So if it doesn't matter at all to them why 8k support in games?

The content just isn't there (streaming and shit, not games), which is probably why they never updated PS5.
Edit: Unless it does actually support it now, but the content doesn't exist to use it lol.

They had The Touryst!

I agree that 8k is a joke and tech released way to early for consumers but Sony behavior with that logo is weird. I assumed they removed it many months ago to bring it back on the Pro.

It's experimental, they said so themselves, but you're not here to gather information. You're desperate.

There is a possible future where 8KTVs still become a thing and you obviously as a media company want to be prepared for that. The PS6 will come out in 2028, which is 4 years from now. A lot can change in 4 years time and the PS6 will have to be relevant for an additional 8 years... So we're talking about 12 years...

As upscaling advances, 8K might become relevant. Same reason Sony put out a VR headset priced at 550 dollars. Just in case the tide turned towards VR. The EyeToy came out well before the Wii, but Sony was late to the game on motion controls and it cost them.

Meta and Apple are losing big money on VR. Sony is not.

You have to build a foundation and be able to build quickly on that foundation.

4K content kind of stumbled out of the gates as media shifted from physical media to streaming media.

We still don't have much 4K broadcast or cable and the stuff we have is largely upscaled and due to the decline of 4K physical media, all we really have left is comrpessed streaming 4K.

It's not to say 8K will never happen, it could happen, we're probably just significantly further along than we should be.

Your basic sports in the US are still generally in 720p or 1080i... So 8K is a pipedream right now. Sony's marketing simply reflects reality, that 8K isn't at all a selling point.

That doesn't mean you don't prepare for a potential 8K future though. Someone like Bojji Bojji thinks you can just flip a switch in the future. You can see the only games really messing with that are racing games where they're already doing 4K and probably 8K modeling.

Why are you so desperate to defend Sony when they do stupid things?

PS5 didn't support 8k - big ass label on the box that it did (for years)
...
They removed it
...
PS5 Pro support 8k - no label...

It's just idiotic.

I'm not defending them.

I don't care...

I just find it funny that you're constantly attacking Sony either over silly stuff like this that doesn't matter or by trying to downplay the PS5 Pro.

It's hilarious but also sad. I wonder if you realize you have an agenda or if you're removed from reality and can't see it. I'm not sure which is worse.

I'm not attacking them if they don't deserve it. I was like you few years ago, defending my favorite console company against Xbots and PCMR trolls. I don't care anymore since Sony don't care about their fans that much (weak SP output this gen, focus on MP).

They are greedy, woke and like to squeeze money out of their consumers - probably like most companies, they are not your friends and you don't need to defend them when they do stupid or anti consumer stuff.

I also had all their all consoles (minus PSP but with PS Vita at launch!) and paid for PS+ for many, many years - so much hater.
